Saint Laurent S/S 2013 Paris

I respectfully disagree. From the looks of it, Hedi did exactly the same thing. He applied his own personal vision on some iconic YSL pieces.
The bad thing here is, this particular fusion is quite reminiscent of other things I have seen on the runway years ago, still do once in a while, mainly coming from Cavalli.... Not sure if this rock/hobo chic is as relevant. Pretty and sexy though, it is.

exactly...
many of these pieces are things lifted straight from the ysl archives and i don't think his take is particularly modern...:ermm:

Mmm... well... Kate Moss will love it.

Me, not so much, was hoping for something sleeker from him.

Maybe it's all the hype and the media play-up but I had higher expectations from Slimane. Yes, there are these great skinny hallmark Slimane suits, but the repetitious limp bows, flimsy dresses, frills, lace, etc. are unconvincing. He hadn't experimented more with cut, volume, etc., the way Tisci, Pilati, Lanvin were able to do.

And I dislike the hats on every model..." Look, 70s Boho"! It's ok to dig deep into the archives, but not to emerge with a facile tacky cliche.

of course this is not modern, i agree it is straight out of the archives but at least it IS ysl, which means >commercial<
that's all the industry cares about, creating a buzz and selling like water

Hedi is a very good photographer and an average stylist
let's face it, he's not a 'real' designer but he does the job for ysl

even the SL buzz was part of a PR game
we need to stop being romantic with fashion
it's an industry, it's not an atelier

^ but this boho-chic is totally out of trend, also. Or am i wrong here?
This well sell well cause the hype is over the roof and beacuse 'Slimane' alone sells, but what's so relevant, desirable, modern here? apart from the skinny suits, maybe?

well it's like...upscale zara. I see countless cavalli/gucci by giannini/even ralph lauren collections that were inspired by YSL 70's bohemian. He hasn't actually designed anything, he is just a good stylist. That makes me think the pieces as separates are very forgettable (albeit sellable).

This feels very dated, both in the pieces and the styling.

Everyone's saying it's Cavalli or Gucci like they actually created these looks first? YSL was first, people.

Designers don't need to follow trends...because not everybody follows all the trends, you do want you want...
People follow their own style, dont force their style to be trendy. Just because everyone is doing minimal and graphic collections others can do bohemian, if everyone did the same, this would be really boring every season, you need to have sur+rises or different collections, otherwise FASHIOn would be a really boring and repetetive thing to do.

Bizarrely unimaginative... Nice separates, sure, but couldn´t they do a vintage line like Balenciaga edition for that?

again boho was totally out of trend until about an hour ago..

Zara H&M etc are already mailing boho capes, long dresses, oversided hats and more skinny pants to China as we speak

A great synthesis of YSL and Slimane, and since I am not tired of either, I think it's fantastic! The suits are the apotheosis of this collection as one might expect. I like the "western" accents as well. Hedi rides again!

Yes, but a new designer at ysl should not recreate what others have already done with referencing the ysl look.
