Self Service #55 F/W 2021.22 : Kate Moss by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

Kate in a white tee is all I need. Don’t really care if it’s photoshopped as Kong as it doesn’t look CGI.

Love the hair and the simplicity…so ALT didnt waste time…

Every time Kate appears on/in a magazine these days the conversation quickly turns to photoshop. You'd think she had morphed into an unrecognizable troll in real life, the way people talk. She still looks like herself! I think that comes across here in print. Not saying there isn't retouching, but it's extremely well-done, it's not excessive, and she looks fantastic. There is texture and lines on her face, they haven't been smoothed into oblivion. Yes, the styling feels youthful, but I think this is beautifully done.

Kate Moss by Mert & Marcus will always be a hit in my books! Spectacular covers, as can be expected. Kate looks amazing ♥

And it's so good to already see Alt in magazines again! You go girl, show them how it's done.

I will be getting this. Kate by M&M never goes wrong, ever.

Opting for the rock'n'roll I-don't-care attitude of being pictured with a cigarette, but chickening out of showing the real face of the woman who's lived that lifestyle... it's all an empty pose, but why would they bother doing anything truly daring, when soft-focus Kate is the formula that sells.

I haven't always been the biggest fan of her work in the last few years, unfortunately, but this brings me back to the classic Kate I love. Gorgeous!

It’s good, classic Alt/Moss.

I’m tired of jeans and tshirts by Alt but I does look fresh this time.
I hope her being on her own don’t mean jeans and tshirts on supermodels everywhere. We need a little bit more in terms of POV.

I don't really understand this criticism though. Magazines almost always present idealized versions of everything, be it models, celebrities, clothing, jewelry, interiors, architecture, food, what have you. That's the job, right? Employ teams of people who deliberately work to use flattering lighting, angles, makeup, clothing, styling, etc. in service of creating some kind of heightened, more perfect version of a person/place/thing. I specifically enjoy magazines *because* of this, not in spite of it. I don't know if maybe Kate had some rough paparazzi photos in circulation for a while that has altered the perception of how she looks? I just don't get the constant insinuation that she's so haggard, that her magazine appearances are *so* dishonest. She's nearly 50 now and I think she looks fantastic, having just googled recent candid/red carpet photos of her. I also heard she's been sober or working on sobriety for the past couple of years, so maybe that has had a positive impact on her looks. Maybe she had some subtle and tasteful work done? I just don't see that the woman on the cover of this magazine differs so dramatically from the woman photographed candidly below, with seemingly minimal makeup. I believe these photos are from early 2020.

Tu look up overrated in the dictionary and her face comes out

all models are photoshopped. always. even the young ones. birth marks, scars, tattoos are removed… I don’t agree. they do it less and less which is a good thing (the only acceptable and reasonable thing to do IMO)

Kate Moss does not look likely this. she has not take care of herself unlike other models and it shows.
this is not shaming of any sort it’s factual.

someone here at TFS used to say that M&M have a filter called Kate Moss for when they photograph her. here’s the proof.

photoshop aside, it’s a nice shot. as for the sssstyling… a plain white t-shirt. groundbreaking.

Nevermind the styling but what the hell is "Set design" supposed to be in here?
