Self Service #55 F/W 2021.22 : Kate Moss by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

Both covers are fine & surprise than Emmanuelle got a "new job" after of her postion as EIC in Vogue Paris. Wait to see the content.

When you're selling an image of eternal rebellion, cigarette in hand on the cover, it's not very unique or rebellious to be as manufactured-looking as everything else that's being sold in the magazine.

For a while it seemed Kate Moss didn't care about ageing, she seemed to be a refreshing figure who knew her legendary status in the fashion world was unassailable, and she was happy to wear her experience on her face and move on with living her life, thereby adding another layer to the legend. Plenty of candids available from those years.

But she's gone the same way as so many others, fillers and photoshop and promoting their daughter while trying to sell you a repackaged version of themselves from twenty years ago. Same as Madonna, Cindy Crawford etc.

Fashion has moved to embrace issues of race and body size - but even legends don't want to face the issue of age.

They photoshoped her into a believable youth imo and as basic as this is, I´m here for it

The deception is real.
LOL

I'm sorry, but who the hell smokes cigarettes in 2021?!
Maybe if she ditched the cancer sticks, she wouldn't need the fillers and the photoshop.
If you're gonna do it, at least be like Lillian Hellman and be 'to hell with it'.

I think both covers look fantastic. I love a classic b&w portrait, and M&M nailed this.
I've never been a huge fan of Kate Moss, but her legendary status is unassailable.

It's always curious (and telling) to me how members of this forum always come for images of certain models/celebrities,
for photoshop criticism, as if everyone in every single fashion magazine image, isn't retouched.
Of course these pics are idealized, but it's beautifully done. Kate still looks like Kate, just fresher.
Also, great photographers know how to light a face, and which angles are more flattering. When this is done correctly, retouching in post can be surprisingly minimal.

I remember Kate showing the first signs of aging (because she was aging), or having a belly (because that's what happens to a human body when drinking a beer), and thinking, 'She's going to do it again, she's going to blow up all expectations about what a model should look like, again'. This was Kate the Unprecedented, after all. Never my favorite, yet unquestionably a Titan. If someone was in a position to do it, it was her.

Turns out, it was not. That revolution never happened. She went on to try and prolong her legacy, instead of honoring it. I look at her here, and I see a desperate imitation of Kate Moss by Kate Moss to stay Kate Moss. Much as I love the simplicity, this cover is too Calvin Kleiny to feel authentic. Nothing wrong with nostalgia. Unless you are Kate, of course: then, you have already been there, done that. You are the real thing. If someone else does it, it's an homage. If you do it yourself, chances are, it's self-parody.

This cover lacks verisimilitude. You cannot take a step forward, then a step back, and pretend you didn't even move in the first place. I have grown knowing Kate. I have grown old with her. This cover is not fiction, as a cover should, but simply a lie.

Despite not being an Alt fan, not at the moment anyway, this is an outstanding styling effort. I never thought I'd say this, but the one thing that fails here is Kate.

Let’s be honest, her job is her appearance and no matter what, you always end up being sensible to that!

Aging is great when you are aging beautifully, when you have a good lifestyle or at least try to have.

Everybody expected Kate to age like Jane Birkin but she was going more in the Anita Pallenberg route. When you live a life of excess, those signs shows. Mix that with aging (something natural), it’s suddenly less glorious to claim.

I’ve seen recent photos of her. It’s obvious that she is « taking care of herself » now…

When you are an icon, it’s not easy to age or to Make peace with it as you are constently confronted with the image of a younger self. So, you try to keep up.

Claudia Schiffer is a miracle of beauty and a fabulous example of taking care of yourself. Someone like Ines De La Fressange is a heavy smoker but looks great.

And maybe I’m wrong but sometimes if Kate wasn’t surprised by her longetivity..

I think Kate has the right to do whatever she wants,as the icon she is, so if she wants to look younger than Lila so be it. It's a feeling that of course you know she doesn't look like this but you know this is Kate Moss, maybe when she is 60 or 70 they are gonna make her look 40....And if she was a rebel before it doesn't mean she is gonna stay that way all her life, let's stop idealizing people and how they should do or not. I don't think we are here to judge her lifestyle or habits or her alleged incapacity to accept aging.

I honestly don't care what she looks like now. But I can take a break a year or two from her ( and her bestie Naomi, and Alt) if this is what they churned out.

I love them very simple and fresh yet we can still see a trace of her actual age not some overly photoshopped nightmare. Would do without the cig

Always ridiculous to read about Kate Moss, age, and Photoshop. Naomi is an icon, all original supers are, but let’s be honest - Kate reached the levels of fame and influence far beyond Naomi and the supers. I bet she just wants to look better, all of us do, and we are certainly not the ones to tell her how to do it.

I don’t see anything bad about both. When I will be around 40, I am sure I’d start getting some touches by an angel here and there. Better late than never, because couple of years ago she looks bad, I’m glad Kate is taking care of herself.
