Hey up y'all, does anyone know anything about the relationship, if there is one, between Galliano and Slimane. I mean, supposedly, they work for the same fashion house. Have Galliano or Slimane ever commented on each other's work in interview? Is there any corellation whatsoever between the direction of the menswear and the direction of the womenswear? Do Galliano and Slimane have any kind of consultation with eachother about what goes on at Dior?

Thanks.

I've always wondered about this. Thanks for bringing it up.

Me too. I've always assumed that there was no connection between them because of the distinct separation of the labels. They're not even sold in the same stores, but I could be wrong. Anyone have the info?

Does anyone else find that incredibly strange? I can't think of any other label whose lines are so far apart from one another. They may as well be two entirely separate companies. Usually that kind of non-cohesiveness and double-imaging tends to be a bad idea, but Dior is selling boatloads of crap with two, bipolar images. Twice the image, twice the money in this case, I suppose...

Yes, I've always found it very strange, I guess I never gave much thought to it because it's almost like they're two different houses.

Exactly.

I get two entirely different images when I think of Dior for women and Dior Homme. Didn't Slimane once comment on Galliano's work? It seemed like he wasn't too fond of it.

^I remember something like that Salvatore. I'm not sure whether I read that from the hintmag.com interview or a piece on Christian Dior from Tatler.

I don't think there is consultation or correlation between the two because there does not seem to be a need. I agree with AlexN when she says two distinct polar-opposite images coming from the same house is usually bad, but the thing is it works.

The Paris flagship store used to have both, but this may have changed. I think it's very smart to position both seperately, the male and female markets are very different. What is strange though is the entirely different images both brands communicate. Dior is flashy and sexy while Dior Homme is more grungy, artistic and luxurious. The question is if the husband of a Dior woman will ever buy something of Dior Homme and vice versa! What do you think?

I happen to love both!! I love Galliano's presentation and theatrics(esp. the asymmetrical structure and huge ruffles and folds), and I like Slimane's styling and lean shapes...I guess I am bipolar?

That makes two :D!

sometimes i wish that the dior femme and homme collections complimented each other in some way, each season... like, for s/s 2004 the theme at dior femme by galliano was gatsby...1920's, marlene dietrich... i think it would've been nice for the s/s 2004 menswear to complement this by being more 1920's gentlemen themed..with akind of gatsbyish vibe... etc etc... i just wish there was some kind of connection between the both of them as if to say dior homme was for the husband and dior femme for his wife but everything is so bipolar and chaotic at the house right now. i'm pretty sure it would be the way i'd like it to be if galliano were in charge of both mens and womenswear, but he isn't. anyone know why? would it just be too much for him to handle or was this just the decision of the dior execs?

That's something I've always been curious about, why didn't Dior Homme just go to Galliano?

i dont think ANY man would buy Dior Homme if it was Galliano crazy man style.....

This is why he has John Galliano Homme. That's what it would have looked like.

What makes it all even more confusing is the fact that many women actually wear Dior Homme, while Galliano too makes Dior accessories for both men and women.
But nevertheless they have somehow managed to create the necessary distinction between the two lines so as to not turn people of the brand, who despise one of the designers.
I have a feeling though that people are getting more and more annoyed by this “schizophrenic” Dior. But that’s just a personal feeling of course…

Well, all I know is that I thank God that Dior Homme didn't go to Galliano.;)

There's definitely a strong negative correlation in the style of the two.. the direction though? Meh, they're both not as good as they used to be (i want them to prove me wrong, though).

I think any connection is limited to the logo leather products that both Femme and Homme have. I think that has more to do with the bigwigs upstairs however. I think when Dior Homme was given to Hedi it was with the understanding that he would be building it up as a brand from the ground up with no connection to what Galliano had going on. Dior Homme really is an entity beyond Dior as far as I can seen.

I wouldn't mind if Hedi took over Dior Femme and Haute Couture to be honest and just let Galliano worry about his own company. (I would love to see John show an Haute Couture collection under his own name!)
