Slimane and Galliano

i think i might have read somewhere that there was a disagreement between them but then again i might be wrong.

Me too. I've always assumed that there was no connection between them because of the distinct separation of the labels. They're not even sold in the same stores, but I could be wrong. Anyone have the info?
Do you mean Dior stores or department stores?

They are definitely sold in same department stores. Dior Homme is next door to Dior in NYC, does that count?

Yeah, I just meant the boutiques...I find it kinda funny that two different stores for the same company are right next to each other when there is no similarity between the two...funny in a wierd way of course, not like hahahaha:lol:

Dior Omotesando in Tokyo is one building encompassing both Dior by Galliano for the ladies and Dior Homme, though they're on seperate floors (DH being in the basement).

This also applies to the Dior at Rue Royal, Paris. Same shop, DH in the basement though at the back of the store just after all the ladieswear and just before the stairs down to the basement they have a wall of DH accessories and sunglasses.

At Avenue Montaigne the 2 labels have their shops next to each other, though part of the same 'building'.

I guess all this is just to differentiate between the 2 brands considering that the DH 'architecture/interior' is black/white/grey lacquer and mirrors. A stark contrast to the interior of a normal Christian Dior boutique and thus the 2 would look better in their own space.. another reason for DH having its own freestanding stores like in Milan etc.

:innocent:

i don´t know if they get along well or not but i know john when to slimane´s first or second show for dior and at some boutiques both collections are sold, of course separatedly and in very different types of decorations, i personally think they probably aren´t very good friends especially when this trend about females wearing slimane´s mens jackets started (linda evangelista and others), but maybe i´m totally wrong :)

i think ultimately they don't want to mess around with what slimane is doing because he's completely ressurrected dior's line for men so they get so much more money than before - if it ain't broke don't fix it.

have you seen some of the men's stuff from the 80s? i sometimes see scenesters wearing it for the irony, it looks like fake sergio tacchini tracksuits.

John have done exactly the same for the women lineS, since he started to work for dior sells have grown 3 times according to resent tv5 news, because as we all know although sometimes his shows seem to be a little unaproachable his boutiques are filled with amazing and oh so glamourous clothing that have the spirit of the catwalk presentations in (wich is very difficult to do), john is one of the latest designers to have stablished something to the fashion world, the bias cut (created by medelainne vionnet in the 20´s) that was complitelly forgoted until john studyed it and brought it to the 21´s century, now everybody uses it, and is the way women dress at night, i personally think slimane constantly repeats himself with every single show i have seen from him and only influences karl lagerfeld, and john inspires way more with his romantic/sexy vision of women, sometimes the result might look a little cheap but if they don´t mix and try interesting newness will never be created, because as we also all know, in days when everything is invented the right answer is to redesign the past and bring it to the future, long live JOHN GALLIANO      !!!!!!!!!!!

Personally, Galliano wins in my book. Yes, a lot of his stuff is over the top and sometimes terribly unwearable but I think that he's the one with the talent. He's the one that brought Dior back to the attention of the fashion flock. I find his stuff much more imaginative and creative then Hedi's, and I think that his design skills far exceed that of his menswear counterpart....just my opinion of course.

I completely agree with you :flower:

UPDATE:

In a trashy girls mag I was reading in the chip shop (not sure which one, possibly Hello!) I saw a picture of Hedi Slimane and Galliano posing together for the cameras at some celeb party.

Shock! Horror!

Woot! I'm'a strap me some Budweiser cans for that Galliano look!!!

I find it pretty hard to compare Slimane and Galliano, considering that one is doing menswear and the womenswear for Dior. You simply cannot do the same couture-silhouette-extravaganzas for men as you can for women, it would ultimately look ridiculous if you hide a man in ruffles just like Galliano does for women. This being said, some of you guys should excuse Slimane for repeating himself - in the end, a men´s wardrobe is by far more compact than a women´s, so the subversiveness has to come from the way you approach the classics.

Hmm, I don't know about that - I think Galliano has done it for men.

succesfully?

He sends crasy get ups down the runway but in stores they are as common as anything else.

Galliano and slimane does not need to collaborate, as before the arrival of slimane, there was no history of menswear at Dior. you guys must remember that many french companies YSL, Givenchy,Ungaro, etc. did not pay great attention to menswear, it was largely a business that was done through liscences (of suits, neckties, Dress shirts. etc). It was upon the arrival of designers like Raf Simons, Sandy Dalal, John Bartlet and others that many companies realise that menswear can be hip and extremely Fashionable. many saw what Dolce and Gabbana was doing and what Tom Ford did at Gucci so they started to pay attention to menswear. Slimane was given the Dior Job after he became a Free Agent upon his refusal to work for Tom Ford at YSL. when Mr. Arnault say the Buzz he created at YSL they realise that they could develop a strong menswear business with a brand that already had a prestigious name and the hottest Designer at the time.
Clearly this business model works for LVMH as they have now replicated it with Riccardo Tisci and Oswald Boateng at Givenchy

Hmm, definitely don't think it's common, but yes, it's definitely toned down (even the flashy pieces I've seen in person are bleak   ). But then again, maybe it's just what NYC stores buy.

A worker i got to know who worked in a Dior store in london (Sloane ST) however is no longer there! anyways I asked him once why the 2 lines are not under 1 roof as in london my closeest place to buy dior homme i would love to buy it in a store apposed to a consession in a store (sounds wierd i know but i would just prefer to buy it in a boutique!) anyways... He said because of the 2 seperate designers they dont hold both mens and womens lines under one roof, it has something to do with the fact that the designers feel that one or the other is taking the spotlight (i guess its so when a person walks into a Dior boutique its for Gallianos designs). He also said that they were in the process of having both mens and ladys lines in the new bond st store but it takes time for the agreement.

However i cannot see how in other countries (Paris, Tokio) both are in 1 store in my oppinion they should both be togther in Dior stores. i hope this helps its just what i got told from an emmployee!

Paul.
