I spent Xmas in Lapland when I was 9 back in 1994. It was so beautiful. The snow glittered & the air was so fresh. Back then we lived in London & it was very exotic to me.

I remember we rented "Philadelphia" starring Tom Hanks. I went skiing and I just hated it... nowadays I love skiing and we always go to Lapland and the Alps to ski.

What makes Lapland so special is that it's the last true wilderness in Europe & the only indigenous people within Europe reside there.

When our goddaughter was about 10 years old, we were watching documentary footage that showed a Lapland sleigh being pulled by reindeer. She was shocked! Up until that moment, she thought reindeer were fictional creatures, rather like unicorns!! I was astonished and thought to myself, "We've got to get this kid out more!!"

Anyhow ... going over there would fulfill one my childhood dreams ...actually one of the current .. still have NOT been in a snowy place ... so white xmas seems EXTREMELY exotic for me

First it's my home town of Helsinki, the capital of Suomi / Finland :

View towards the harbour from Esplanade Park. In the distance you can see western Europe's largest Orthodox church, the Uspenski Cathedral.

The view towards the historical center of Helsinki. In the distance you can see the famous Helsinki cathedral designed by Carl Ludvig Engel.

Aker Brygge, Oslo, Norway. It was a rainy night & the rain acted as a reflective pond for the surrounding structures. Observe the reflections of the illuminated town hall.

Hotel Kämp. The hotel was started by the legendary Carl Kämp.
