Tom Ford : Life after Gucci #2

^Yes it was $50M , i finally found the article on Nymag.com, and it will be Fall/Winter 2011 if it all goes to plan, here are the articles ^_^.
I Really don't know Where i got $200M figure from .

Tom Ford finally confirmed he will launch Tom Ford womenswear "very soon." He could not specify a date, but sources have told WWD that fall 2010 could be a possibility. Domenico De Sole, Ford's longtime business partner, is hunting for financing for the ladies' line. “Financing is extremely expensive right now, so if we find financing in the right situation we’ll be able to start [a women’s collection] soon. If we don’t, we may have to wait a while,” Ford said. De Sole would not say how much they're seeking, but it's said to be around $50 million. Ford added that once he gets the money, he'll need eighteen months to get the line off the ground so he can find factories and get the stores ready.

It's a good time for Ford to branch out, because his menswear is doing pretty well, bad economy considered. Ford explained, “Our customer has been a little bit insulated, meaning of course they’ve lost money like everyone else, but they’re still in a much better position than other people. They may not be buying a new apartment or a new painting, but they’re still buying clothes.” It's unclear if Ford's new womenswear line will come with stores of its very own. But if they do, they ought to be the antithesis of Tom Ford's men's stores, the bastion of all things fine and manly, from Scotch (or the liquor of your choice) to walking sticks to $9,240 fur boots to $990 jeans with real gold buttons. We're not quite sure what the ladies' version of that is, but we're imagining red velvet on the walls, embellished long cigarette holders, possibly hookahs, a walk-in vodka freezer, and denim shorts that show juuuuuust the right amount of *** cheek.

TOM FORD womenswear looks closer to becoming reality this morning as rumours intensify that the designer is building a design team - and has begun recruiting accessories specialists, WWD reports - in preparation for the debut collection. The designer confirmed last year that it was a matter of "when" not "if" he would launch a women's line.
"Financing is extremely expensive right now, so if we find financing in the right situation we'll be able to start [a women's collection] soon. If we don't, we may have to wait a while," the former Gucci and YSL helmer said in October 2009. "You know it will take me 18 months when I start, because [I have] to hire the team, find the factories, put everything together and then get the stores ready so there's a place for these clothes."
It seems, six months on, that those plans are now finally underway.

TOM FORD may be reluctant to comment, but sources within the industry claim that the designer is slowly building his womenswear team in anticipation for the launch that he himself has asserted is a matter of "when, not if". Caroline Tixier, a women's ready-to-wear designer at Givenchy, and Pablo Coppola, an accessories designer at Alexander McQueen, have both been recruited, WWD reports, and the launch looks likely to be in for autumn 2011.
"Financing is extremely expensive right now, so if we find financing in the right situation we'll be able to start [a women's collection] soon. If we don't, we may have to wait a while," the former Gucci and YSL helmer said last year when asked about the launch. "You know it will take me 18 months when I start, because [I have] to hire the team, find the factories, put everything together and then get the stores ready so there's a place for these clothes."
It seems that plan is already in motion - and we may see Tom Ford womenswear designs next year.

If anything will have editors fainting over their Fiji water this Fashion Week, it might be Tom Ford, who is hosting an elusive cocktail party on September 12. WWD hears that His Forbulessness will show something from his first namesake line of womenswear at this affair. His spokeswoman confirmed the event is "a small cocktail party" but would not reveal if he'll bandy about his new clothes as well. The paper reports Ford will show the full collection, including clothes, shoes, bags, and jewelry — ZOMGWTFBBQ! — in January for June deliveries. So in a year, you and your lover might be sitting in your respective offices wearing his and her Tom Ford! And then you can go home and feed each other spoonfuls of caviar with real ivory utensils.

MAJOR TOM [WWD]

^Apparently Lou Dillon tweeted that she'll be walking in his show, and then last night she confirmed it with WWD. So sounds legitimate. Can't wait...

OMG. i also love he'll be starting back to where he left, in a way (his last collection was f/w, now he'll be starting from s/s)

Lou Doillon to Walk in Tom Ford's Womenwear Preview —Spokespeople at Tom Ford wouldn't confirm that he'd be offering a first look at his upcoming womenswear line during the cocktail party he's hosting Sept. 12 in New York. However, on Sept. 4, Lou Doillon Tweeted, "I'll be in new york newt week, for the tom ford show !" And last night, she told WWD she'll be walking for Ford — so consider the preview confirmed.

That's funny they chose her because she's the polar opposite of the Tom Ford woman I imagine

true. let's hope tom didn't lose his mind and will now produce hipster clothing :ninja:

I was jumping for joy when I read this on twitter! I can't wait. I'm gonna dieeeee of excitement!

Oh my gosh. I don't care who is walking, I just want to see where his mind is at.

Did he already show is men's s/s '11 collection? If not I wonder if he's gonna show them together.

I'm really not sure how I feel about this approach...

Sorry, Tom, but we can't help ourselves...For those of vous wondering what, exactly, the designer's women's presentation will entail, your Daily has the dish! Every model is a celebrity---think Beyonce, Lou Doillon, Victoria Beckham---and Tom will walk the ne plus ultra-elite audience through each look personally. Only one snapper will be allowed on-site---working directly under Tom---and photos aren't expected to be released until January, when the merch hits stores, in hopes of curtailing counterfeits. Everyone involved, from the flacks to the guests, have signed confidentiality agreements, and security at the event on Sunday will be extra-high. So if you don't already have an invite, well, dommage, but don't worry---you can read all about it in your Tuesday Daily!
