Tom Ford Womenswear F/W 13.14 London

Garbage.

I'm not surprised that mostly men like this collection. Yes, it's very "editorial" and "fashion". But Tom Ford has never designed for actual women as his clientele. Just the rich with too much money, empty-headed fashion victims, and worthless celebrities. Not flesh and blood but signs, types, and transmissions. Unfortunately, the fashion Kool Aid is still being drunk, years after his tyranny at Gucci and YSL.

If I wanted decadence with a knife's edge of tackiness done with supreme design skill, I'd rather take Alber Elbaz's Lanvin.

How are brainless, rich & celebrity woman any less of an actual woman? I mean I don't know about you but I don't think Julianne Moore resembles that type of woman in anyway.

Have you been in a Tom Ford boutique? I don't think you get the idea of what he did here? Ofcourse a good portion of this was purely editorial, but in most cases this will all translate to wearable garments come their retail debut.

The ugly portion of the show is purely editorial-bait and won't see the light of day outside certain fashion magazines and stars. That portion of the collection is just plain ugly and desperately attention seeking. No women, no matter how wealthy or questionable her taste may be, would spend money on the multicolored patchwork of furs (but if they were lend the piece to wear, I'm sure they'll be on it without a single hesitation). And those that do genuinely like such garishness, probably don't have the means to be shopping at Tom Ford.

Having said that, Tom is an extremely shrewd, clever and sharp businessman. He's not one to do anything on a whim, and the remainder of the offering is proof of this; The insanely-detailed embroidered laces and florals, the tasteful, luxe draped jackets and suits with folds, even the rich-clashing pink pieces are really stunning, and the slick leather pieces are really beyond scrumptious and very flattering in form-- no mistaking them for anything but ultra-luxurious, ridiculously-sexy and sublimely-decadent: It's classic Tom Ford right there and rightfully to be coveted by his clientele. So why the obviously tasteless pieces? Desperately seeking attention. And he definitely succeeded in that. That Tom knows how to get all the attention and get us all talking, and still sell. Smart man.

^ That's because they don't have to wear it! ;)

Actually I was just reading Suzy Menkes' excellent article on blogging (posted on the "Thoughts about Fashion Bloggers" thread) and how it's resulted in more and more "peacocking" in the fashion world, and I couldn't help but think of this collection. Here's a bit from the article:

Today, the people outside fashion shows are more like peacocks than crows. They pose and preen, in their multipatterned dresses, spidery legs balanced on club-sandwich platform shoes, or in thigh-high boots under sculptured coats blooming with flat flowers. There is likely to be a public stir when a group of young Japanese women spot their idol on parade: the Italian clothes peg Anna Dello Russo. Tall, slim, with a toned and tanned body, the designer and fashion editor is a walking display for designer goods: The wider the belt, the shorter and puffier the skirt, the more outré the shoes, the better.

A lot are missing the point here. It's okay if you don't like it, but I am not seeing how it is disgusting or garbage. You have some well-made statement pieces that can be worn.

Tom Ford has stated in the past during his time at Gucci that he loves the idea of a woman wearing one of his pieces with pieces from other designers, but a lot with normal everyday pieces like jeans and t-shirts. He designed pieces to be worn with other pieces where these will make a statement. It will actually encourage a woman to think further than wearing an entire runway look, which is boring, and get creative to make these pieces seem normal while still being a stand-out.

I really can't stop looking at this collection. It's a big jolt of colour in fashion after everything has become flat.

This is just a mess. Many ugly pieces that don't fit together and don't give the feeling of it being a collection.

I love it. When you separate the outfits there are some serious show stoppers. I'm living for some of the boots! Also, the clothes look better in motion.

I dont understand the overpriced makeup beauty collection of his and nonetheless
this collection, I just say I miss his Gucci days...

..coming soon to an Anna Dello Russo thread near you. :ninja:

I'm talking about what they represent. These "women" are "representations" (icons, if you will), thanks to their visibility in the media and public exposure, rather than the women that they really are. This is whom Tom Ford is dressing: Julianne Moore the "celebrity" on the red carpet, instead of Julianne Moore the working mother. Do you think Tom Ford has ever designed with someone like Drew Gilpin Faust in mind? Probably only if she had a Youtube video with a million hits, did a Gus Van Sant film, or hooked up with Berlusconi.

Let's be fair. This thread isn't about what's going to appear in retail, but what is on the runway. I'm sure there are decent enough pieces here. However, I'm looking at the overall vision.

I like how trashy looks this. Tom Ford is a name that can sell anything, so at this point he can do whatever he wants, he's just having fun.

Suddenly, I am not dying to go buy his $189.00 socks or his $650.00 dress shirts...

Totally love it!

My first impression was horror, but, whith the time, I thinks it's the most modern, cool, sexy, fresh, elegant, crazy collection since he's back in womenswear

I'm beginning to warm up to it as well. The textbook Celine-esque minimalism is starting to get old very quickly and quite frankly I'm tired of it. Fashion needs this kind of excess more than boring basics.

I think some outfits are really bad, but I liked the collection in general.
