I love Jamaican Rhapsody, It’s very young and fresh. I appreciate that there is some actual styling going on. High Flyers looks like a cheapo version of Vogue Paris. Giedre saves it with her shots. I wish they would have shot a cover for Jamaican Rhapsody. Cara’s editorial is not worthy of a cover story.

Jack Borkett is better editor than Poppy Kain. He deserves more space.

I know Bruce Weber is... err.. "unavailable" at the moment but it's pretty lame to book a photographer, especially one with such distinct aesthetic like Tim, to basically mimic him. The pictures are great regardless...

For me the best cover thing in this issue is “The Class of 2018”. Because it’s simple and doesn’t try to be something that it isn’t.

I’m consistently struck by just how cheap and thoughtlessly pulled together Edward’s Vogue is visually (and cheapest yet with the inclusion of this Markle person in this issue). I can’t be bothered to check out who the art director is, other than this person is lazy, thoughtless and possesses absolutely no refinement as an art director— just recycling the templates Alexandria’s graphic designer had, and throwing in the occasional graphic components from Edward’s W. Lazy lazy lazy. Maybe this person isn’t to be blamed as they’re just following their editor’s directions.

Cara’s story is instantly forgettable. What an awful, joyless model this woman is: She looks as insufferably snooty/pissed off/irritated here as she can come across when interviewed as an (former?) “actress”. The shot of her in SLP is the only decent one of the edit, if I were particularly generous. And if I had to go with one story, Jamaican Rhapsody is the strongest— and only because it doesn’t possess any of Tim’s annoying toy-diorama signatures. But the best shot in the entire issue is the one of Adwoa in a 1-page article for View Point by Scott Trindle. It’s obvious it’s from The Class of 2018 shoot.. She looks absolutely radiant, regal and totally soulful. When she smiles, she glows. Such a gorgeous and strong composition. So a couple of solid images and a decent story from an entire issue: That seems typical of Edward’s Vogue so far.

Pity the words accompanying Adwoa's "column" are not even worth the half-page they seem to get...

So far, Edward's made good on his promise to diversify the type of faces we see in the magazine.

However, I have not seen one shot that makes me want to buy the product, the fashion, or the lifestyle that's being sold, so I can't say this magazine is commercially appealing to me, never mind being meaningful on any other level.

Of course Adwoa's shot would be the only redeeming feature for Phuel. Knew he'd be in here drooling all over the carpet. Lol.

As it happens, I'm indifferent to that shot. But then I've always been indifferent to her for most part anyway. I do think she should stick to modelling (for what it's worth!) This SJW columnist schtick doesn't suit her. It's a parody in itself.

I finished this issue in little over an hour. Did we need yet another intro into Cara's inane musings? Another Meghan Markle appreciation feature knowing full and well she'd be all over the place? Doubt it. Other than that there's really not much to read. Stories like 'How I learned to love jeans' truly belongs in American Vogue. It's so vapid. While the written content under Alexandra served a purpose and was at least well written and conceptualised, I'm getting the feeling that Edward's just trying to fill the pages with it.

What does impress me is the finer details in the magazine. Flow could do with some work, but that swimsuit shot with vibrant colours is, stunning. So is the image of Karley Loyce (beauty, I think), and some of the shots in Walker's edit. Walker's travel stories for British Vogue was always superbly done. Glad to see he's keeping that up. And I quite enjoyed Venetia's pedestrian McDean-style edit. Glad I didn't had to pay full price for this.

I'm just a bit confused with the advertising team's work. You have campaigns for Phillip Plein and Palace (new additions under Edward), few pages later you see Helen Mirren selling anti-ageing for Loreal? This is why Harper's appears to be doing so well. It's not only the content which align with their direction and age group, but also the campaigns.

^^^ I hardly, if ever, read any of any Vogues’ articles… Maybe that’s why I can appreciate Adwoa LOL In this age of twitter-soundbites, when a famous individual can be quickly blessed as an admired activist for simply doing nothing more than having an opinion, I tend to avoid what models have to say. (Although that deep, warm, honey-smooth voice of hers is hypnotic...)
