US Vogue April 2017 : Selena Gomez by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

^ Let's not pretend like designers these days don't do covers, or constantly pose for features, even Miuccia! So this is really not a case of "have your cake.." . She defo turns down covers often, ask UK Bazaar, and US Elle how many times they have offered her the cover in the last few years, and how many times she said; "no, thanks".

She opted for InStyle because they reach the widest audience in America, and when Target (or EL) is paying you obscene amount of money, you need to promote them. Also she is not, yet, an advertiser so why shouldn't she use her celebrity & do covers to promote her brand? If I was her PR i wouldn't let her turn down a single cover! I agree with ADC though, tons of this Vogue cover nonsense is just a sell the tabloids make, and in the end she is better served having their support over appearing on the cover, and then not ever being in the magazine. (I also think that this supplement has been done before for other Target x designer collabos)

Also VB puts her money where her mouth is, and never plays the victim, she understands & acknowledges her celebrity. Look at this Selena cover profile, she has the nerve to say; " I just really can’t wait for people to forget about me.” WHILE she is on the cover of Vogue without an album, or movie to promote!

They do, but it's a completely different ballgame, isn't it? The frequency of her covers alone is what sets her apart to other designers. Also, when you see Nicolas or Tisci on Vogue, people don't pick it up to read about the ins and outs of their personal life. I'm quite certain they do with Victoria though.
I know I'm pitting them against each other to prove a point, but the Olsens are in a similar position. They too don't advertise, yet you don't see them on magazine covers as much as you see her. It's one thing to acknowledge your celebrity, and quite another to blur the line between celebrity and fashion designer.

^ Yeah it's different, but so is the comparison between her and Olsens, they don't get the same level of interest as she does, and most likely not the same amount of cover offers, as a result.

And like i said, she is not complaining about the line you mention, so I don't understand that argument. Her claim to fame will always be Posh Spice, and she doesn't deny that, and it certainly doesn't mean her hard work with the brand can't be taken seriously, imo. I think she strikes a perfect balance, InStyle is her first US cover in three years, and that is not because she didn't get offers. Plenty of designers seek celebrity, and put their lives up for grabs, so i don't think she should deny her fame pre this second career, but use it to her advantage. It's not like she is doing covers for tabloids.

But to be honest, i won't be shocked if Wintour does a cover with a designer in the future, in fact Olsens would be perfect, but someone like Philo would be too. Vogue Germany had few covers with Jill Sander back in the 90s, i loved them!

I didn't get the supplement... is it for UK subscribers only?

No, I'm in the US (but not NY or LA). I think they might only deliver the supplements to certain markets? That seemed to be the case with the Kendall supplement last year, which I also received.

^ Yes, remember reading once that only every second, or third subscriber gets their supplements, makes no sense!

Love the cover. And how honest she is in the interview. The red is definitely her color.
