Vogue Paris December 2009/January 2010 : Laetitia Casta by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

I don't like any of Laetitia's eds... Bijoux and En Vogue are good, but still the issue is bad imo, ending a rather weak year for VP.

thanks for posting, greyeyes :flower:

^ it's lackluster for a December issue. Laetitia's editorials are beyond boring and aren't doing anything remarkable for me. Seeing Rose's en vogue editorial makes me wish there'd be more shots of her. She definately knows how to work each of those shots. Bianca's ed is also pure love for me. I'm completely loving every shot with her. Even though it's such a dissapointing issue, the calender is so making me want it so bad. Every shot...wow!

it's still amazed me how lara became my fav model - from really hating her and saying what the hell every time i saw her to loving her eds and walking. An dthis issue of VP is one of the best example of her rough beauty and model skills. ALso i like cover shoot os leticia - very uncommon for her, high fashion , not boring lovely-like.

Bravo LARA! I love Lara's ed! It's her best this year! Laetitia's eds are okay but there's something about her MAIN EDITORIAL that gives me the VOGUE Italia vibe. IMO IDK!

don't particularly like anything about this issue

cover, eds, etc...all pretty meh to me.

the mood is awkward

Yes, when combining open body language with a fierce expression there's a fine line to tread. Too much tension in the mouth here perhaps.

Not the best lit/post-produced work either.

And quite what they've done with her left leg I'm not sure.

Not Mert&Marcus's finest hour. In fact a long way from it.

Ah - I see now from the ed what's going on with the left leg. But bad crop for a cover shot.

this editorial is clearly an hommage to Laetitia Casta ...
and the styling is nothing spectacular. it's good ... but with such a thematic and only 3 pages ... well it's nothing really "tough" to do ...
the first embodies Laetitia as Marianne (the French symbol of Freedom etc.), the rest is abt Galeries Lafayette ... especially the third one which is a complete rip-off of the Lafayette campains .... but i guess that was the point.

i'll have to recheck all the credits. coz it seems there are a lot of SS 2010 items in this issue - especially in this Bianca Balti (the YSL fraises) and Grace Jones Tribute

am i the only one who likes the eds with Laetitia ?
and I'm not really fond of her ........

The thing I like about the shots of Bianca is the fact that they are so kitschy. The styling is tacky, but still manages to come off as chic and polished. I understand that the shots are a tribute to Laetitia, and the first shot of Bianca as the Marianne is just fantastic in my opinion. Hell, if a few more shots were added, this should have been in the back as a main edit, because it is better and more visually interesting, in my opinion, than any of Laetitia's edits.

There is a lot of Spring/Summer in this issue. In Laetitia's first edit, she is wearing a Balmain military coat and a Chloe cape, and Bianca is wearing the sequined heart blazer from the Emanuel Ungaro collection.

Not a particularly spectacular issue of Vogue Paris, this.

I see I'm not the only one here who noticed the similarity between this cover and some of the most recent Vogue Italia ones. I'm not particularly disposed to either like or dislike Laetita Casta, but the cover shoot is altogether disappointing, stylistically. Laetitia's cover pose strikes me as rather awkward (and while awkward can sometimes be intriguing, not the case here), and the green bra is really distracting me from the whole picture. Ick.

Laetitia's other editorials in this issue, however, are much better imo. While neither are particularly inventive, they are much easier on the eye than the cover shoot. The Cédric Buchet-photographed ed in #122 has a few really stunning shots of Laetitia (namely photos 2, 4, 8), while I really like stylistic variety in the Alasdair McLellan-shoot in #129.

I guess I'm in the minority in disliking Lara Stone's ed in #147, however. While I think she does a great job in her facial expressions -- there's some great variety here, and is it just me or do I seem to detect a glint of humor or irony in her eye in some of these shots? -- I find the styling rather silly. I guess I just don't get it. Language barrier, maybe? ;)

Anyway, many thanks to greyeyes for posting the scans!

there's the same cover but with pink text, i kind of like this one better.
and the sale date for this issue is 4 december ^_^

I didn't think it would be possible to salvage this cover, but actually, the pink text is swaying my opinion of it a bit. The new color (or rather the absence of the earlier text color?) shifts my focus from the otherwise distracting green bra to the surrounding environment, not to mention the hair and its amazing color. It makes the styling more bearable, somehow.

I think the pink text is very ugly.

I love this whole issue. I'm very pleased to see Laetitia, she's a true beauty. This issue's a must :)
