Well, for all my criticism aimed at Alt, I must say she delivered an above average issue! Very much impressed with everything I'm seeing here. Hana and Anna' editorials are the only ones I like as we see them here, the rest could have done with some changes. But I'm gobsmacked at seeing Hana's editorial in this magazine. It's contemporary, it's glamorous, and timeless in a sense. Everything that VP has not been for the past decade or so! She really should grant her editors more creative autonomy because their take on 'return to nature' is splendid.
She handled the nature theme well, in her own tunnel-vision way. Anna's edit looks dreamy. And yes, if Karin Swerink had any sense of identity or marketing savvy she'd use the windmill on her anniversary covers. Especially with that hue. Great work.
With Ashley's edit I admire the production value, the conception of the story, and styling more than anything else. While Ashley looks every inch the wholesome corn-fed peasant in most of her shots, I don't think she carries herself well here. Her poses are too 'modern' for this story. That's why models should brush up their historical photography, art and film skills just to see how women were captured and how they moved around. But regardless, I think the story is refreshing because it's a refreshing take on a fuller figure model.
I really don't like Natasha's edit. It actually ended up terribly contrived, and this new cheesy surreal effect which I&V are so fond lately of dont wash well with me.
Apparently the below shot served as inspiration to the VP team...........Lisa Fonssagrives by Irving Penn. I'm shocked that Alt would build her issue around something so nostalgic would because she always took pains to assert how she's only concerned with reflecting the girl on the street.
