Who Will Succeed John Galliano At Dior? #2 *Update Raf Simons Offically Hired*

Anyhoo, I don't have a problem with Marchesa, but unlike Zac Posen, Georgina Chapman:
  • is not a CFDA Award winner;
  • was not educated at Central Saint Martins and Parsons;
  • to my knowledge has not had a design of hers exhibited by the V&A.

I don't think that any of the above can be attributed to good PR, personal charisma and buzz perhaps, but not solely PR.

you must've missed the ironic tone of my post, i'm afraid. to me both chapman and posen (regardless of the awards he won and where he was educated) aren't even remotely suitable for the job.

well sorry to say it again but, hum seriously, who did the biggest part of the job ? i mean i saw drawings of galliano and....believe me, biggest work is done by his team, and made by those wonderful people that we call "petites mains", little hands. THEY make the dream becoming true, so stop pretending that galliano was the only genius, cause this show is a TEAM work. Dior, Chanel, all these houses are what they are thanks to all the people that build their quality. designers come and go...

Well yes, the "petites mains" have a huge part in the process of the collections because without them, there would not be any clothes. However, they need a design to sew, right ? Everyone in the atelier and design studios are important. It's like a body - if one organ is not properly functioning, it all shuts down. ^^

This is why it's important that they hire someone with an excellent vision to put those in the atelier to work.

My read of your post is that Zac Posen's success is more the result of good PR than "artistic talent and aesthetic sense" and that the head of Dior needs to have more going for him than dressing women for the red carpet which was a misread / misinterpretation of my post. Anyhoo, I don't want to go too far down this path because I am not even sure if I want to see Posen at Dior, Givenchy perhaps because I would like to see a modern take on Hubert de Givenchy's that is lighter than Tisci's and I would like to see Tisci find another baseline for his schtick.

Perhaps it does not float your boat but being educated at the two best fashion design schools in the world, although I don't think he graduated, and recognition by the CFDA and the Victoria and Albert museum is pretty major stuff and if LVMH does go the wunderkind route Zac Posen, among others, fits the bill.

I can't believe someone metion Balmain again, what the...

I think he's joking. Decarnin's sense of imagination and creativity stops at the power shoulder.

i find it hard to believe this is really the definite end of galliano at dior

anyway, there's no suitable candidate out there.. and no sane designer would touch this

I think Alber Elbaz would be amazing at Dior but I don't want his for creative director either

Theyskens is the only candidate in my book.
zac, and the rest of the NY designers cannot handle a french house like this. it takes more than pretty dresses. good is not enough, one needs to be more than good for this.
alber needs to stay at lanvin. tisci can stay at givenchy to create humorless clothes.

I can go to Dior...i used to participate in school recyclable fashion competitions

I was actually hoping for Julien Macdonald. Lord knows the snoozefest Pilati will bring to Dior.
I wonder who's gonna walk out after the Dior show.

I think Theyskens is also in the lead but somehow my head keeps saying Jason Wu over and over again.

i mean i know John was the main lead designer,but isnt there like a second or someone after him? that person can take charge of the collections? nope?

kinda what happen with McQueen.

Theyskens would be the best...

Anna W loves him, so that means they would have initial support from Vogue US...

I would LOVE for Hussein Chalayan, Haider Ackermann or Anne Valerie Hash, a designer who can really cut and who has a fine sense of elegance. Theyskens is great too, but I feel that he hasn't pushed as far as these older designers, especially with his disastrous stint at Nina Ricci.
