^ Apart from Galliano, Marc Jacobs was Arnault's favorite. I would be surprised if he didn't give Marc whatever he wanted. I don't think he can stand to lose two of his favorite designers. As unappealing as the idea of Marc designing at Dior was to me in the beginning, I had completely forgotten his work with Louis Vuitton. I focused mainly on his namesake label, which is very much streetwear and more casual but his work with Louis Vuitton, while not always a hit, is very luxurious, so I completely believe now that he would be great at Dior.

^I got some questions if someone knows the answers please:
- 10 millions a year or 10 millions a month?
- Anyone knows how much Galliano earn?
- Is sweetheart Gaytten designing Galliano men and woman collection :´(

10 millions a year (I think) and yes Gaytten is now the designer for both womenswear and menswear at John Galliano.

And how much Gaitten is paid? after his triumphant couture collection: ad honorem I mean...

He probably paid the Dior executives himself to be able to present that collection.

10 millions a year for sure. they have also to earn sth for the Dior and LVMH.

By the sounds of it Phoebe isn't interested in LV. Which I'm happy about.

I wonder how much John was paid. Of course Marc will want a pay raise.

Ah, so the Marc Jacobs rumour has some truth ? Very unexpected.

That amount of money doesnt surprise me, I mean they are not poor.
I have always imagined that a fashion designer could earn 10 or more millions in a year,
after all they lead the luxury fashion industry of our world and the profits
are of Billions.

So I dont understand the scandal of 10 millions for designing for Dior,
after all with so many collections in a year... your lost soul deserves it.

'Hire back John Galliano': Controversial Italian Vogue editor on the future of Dior

The fashion world may be buzzing with speculation that Marc Jacobs is set to take the top job at Christian Dior, but for one of the industry's most influential figures there could be a better, if highly controversial, solution.

Italian Vogue editor Franca Sozzani has suggested that the French fashion house should bring back John Galliano, who was fired from his post in March after an anti-Semitic tirade in a Paris bar.

In a new interview with Newsweek, she advised bosses to 'hire back John Galliano.'

She told the magazine: 'Look, I understand their point of view. I understand they couldn't just say, "Bad boy! We forgive you! Come Back!" But it's really a pity.

'I will never believe he believed what he said. I think he was drunk and alone in a bar. When people go crazy they go crazy. It's a human case, it's not political or religious. He didn't kill anyone!'

Ms Sozzani, who has edited Italian Vogue since 1988 is taking a risk in making such a controversial opinion public. Her magazine is dependant on luxury brands for advertising, and in risking the wrath of Dior, she risks the finances of the title she edits.

Sozzani is an attention wh*re, she will do anything to be talked about. Of course many people would hire him back if they were Dior executives (I would!) but it's impossible. It would show weakness from the house and they would lose a lot of their Jewish customers.
As for Marc Jacobs, I'm not surprised by his behavior, as he gets older he gets greeder. Louis Vuitton is a gift, you should not turn down to work over there because 10M is not enough. Come one give the job to a novice, someone who wants it really bad, rather than Marc Jacobs.

I wish. But they're obviously only looking to make money and nothing else

So Franca is an attention w***e because she states her honest opinion, unlike most people in fashion who kiss their advertiser's as**s to no end, so they don't lose them? Funny how that works, but it is to be expected. Fashion now is all about politics (or more accurately political correctness). As for Jacobs, I'm not surprised he asks for that kind of money. Taking over Dior would mean he'll have to produce 22 collections a year including two couture ones, so there is much more work involved for him.

at this point, it's all posturing. that they're even entertaining -- and leaking to the press -- the ten million dollar number means they have some major changes in store to get dior back on track. it's also interesting to consider that the outlandish salary paid to tom ford came about because he did not have his own label to design for.....one has to wonder what justification marc jacobs could have for asking for such a large sum outside of possibly not really wanting the job in the first place.

this reminds me of the fight between amc (an american cable network) and mad men's showrunner, matt weiner. eventually amc ponied up some thirty million dollars to get that three year contract signed and i'm pretty sure DIOR makes a lot more money than MAD MEN has.

I agree in 100%. Someone new would bring much more to Dior than Marc. But it seems that LVMH is only thinking about $$$$$$.

I'm really concern, how Marc will be able to work for Dior and in the same time for his own brands? I mean, there are at least 6 collection for Dior and accesories (which are very important) and for his brand he's got 4-8 for MJ and 4-8 for M by MJ collections a year. How is he going to design everything? It's so much work. I'm affraid that his collections for Dior wont be so spectacular and breath taking as those designed by John.

I followed Olivier [Zahm] outside where he was giving an extensive interview to another reporter, and Terry was trying to get away from the hoards of 20-somethings looking for a photo. Olivier dished that he knew for a fact that Marc was going to Dior. He seemed more surprised that we didn’t know, than of Marc’s appointment. After finishing with reporter #1, I had a chance to chat with Olivier for a moment before Terry called out for him and they were off into the night.

Fashionista: So how do you think Marc will do at Dior?

Olivier Zahm: I think he will do good, because he has a real sense of fashion and he knows fashion history. He will refresh the vision of Dior. And it’s not easy because Dior is not an easy brand. John Galliano did a great job because he was extravagant and totally multicultural, but I think Marc will give a more contemporary vision of the brand.

Tell me, what did you think of today’s collection? Do you think it was Dior-worthy?

I loved it! I loved it because it was fresh, energetic, and very visual. And I love the fluoro orange and pink. It was so simple and so, like, sporty and quite well cut and simple. This simplicity is refreshing. I had a good impression of something joyful too.
