Who Will Succeed John Galliano At Dior? #2 *Update Raf Simons Offically Hired*

I woud like Tisci to stay put. Why leave Givenchy after working so hard to build it into his own?

Marc Jacobs, eh? Well, he would certainly understand the customer. It's not a bad idea, but not a great one. Personally I don't think he's so consistent with Vuitton, Dior could very well be a disaster.

I always assumed Chanel had dibs on Alber for when Lagerfeld departs but perhaps Dior will snap him up first, I would. But I doubt he's in any rush to leave Lanvin.

Stefano Pilati... might get the same problem you have with Galliano. :innocent:

Giambattista Valli and Olivier Theyskens would be outstanding and easy picks. Both designer understand the romantic element, they understand the customer, they can easily match Galliano's theatrics (on the runway, not in the cafe) and most of all they understand the couture. But, alas, I bet they are too caught up with their own/other projects to divest themselves and take on such a challenge.

But you know, if I could really choose, I'd hire Haider Ackermann and make every last one of them gag. And you know he'd design the hell out of it.

I doubt they would put Facchinetti in the position given her history with Gucci and Valentino. Sad to say, but true... But I agree, Dior does indeed deserve someone that has already made a name for themselves.

I would hate to see Marc Jacobs at Dior. I would cry each day until he was fired. Please don't lol

It would be impossible for Tisci to stay at Givenchy considering both are haute couture houses. Tisci designing two HC collections, four PAP, two menswear, and then resort and pre-fall per year is just too much and would seriously cut his creativity down I think.

Good point indeed.

I don't really want to see neither Marc or Riccardo, though. I think they're perfectly placed where they are now and there's no need to change that.

Still dreaming about Lacroix, although it's rather unlike to happen.

Oliver or Giambattista Valli would be a dream for me  But I guess it's not gonna happen :ermm:

All I hope is that those awful people at LVMH don't push the next poor b*****d who takes this role into unimaginable and unethical amounts of work.

I can state also I would never buy a thing from any LVMH owned brand. Ever. Bernard Arnault and that company has the fashion industry in a complete stranglehold. Its the greediest most tasteless company on the globe.

so what is actually happening now? they canceled the show? but i mean they'll *have* to release a collection for f/w anyway, how is this gonna work?

None of the proposed designers here make sense. Rodarte, Lacroix, Theyskens, etc - all are skilled designers, but have no experience with such a globalized company making its profits mainly off leather goods / bags / shoes etc. Honestly I don't think Rodarte or Theyskens or Ackerman are going to understand the customer base at Dior and be able to sell to them.

Keep in mind Dior will want to distance itself from Galliano, but it will be interesting to see whether they employ someone to continue his vision (an unknown designer) or if they will start afresh with someone who is drastically different.

A question for those who know. Statistically speaking, what is the breakdown of sales at Dior? What do they make most of their profit from (in percentages)? And also, where is their biggest customer base at the moment? China? Russia?

Theyskens all the way!

100% agree with Olivier Theyskens. His last collection for Nina Ricci left a profund impact in terms of his blatant talent as a designer with couture sensibilities. His dark romantic aesthetic would be a departure from Dior, but every new designer must intrepret the houses' foundation in their own way. Anyways, one can dream.

I think Tisci can be quite a safe choice for them since he's already a LVMH little soldier, and a rising star of the stable. The Rodarte girls could take Givenchy, probably not Dior, but Givenchy could suits them.
I also dream to see the return of Christian Lacroix , but not at LVMH, he's too talented for them !!!

They have 12 boutiques in China only out of 160 around the world, so I would say China is the target country lately for all big houses (including Chanel and Prada)
And they make most of the profit from bags and different kinds of accessories and of course beauty products and fragrances.
I had an article somewhere with 2010 sales but I don't know where it went!

Theyskens will never be hired. He has a bad reputation in sales. There's really no one who can do what Galliano can do. But the only name I can think of who could have a chance in hell is Alber Elbaz.

Accessories and cosmetics. They're the the blood of the brand.

I think it's true. I'd looooove Theyskens at Dior but I remember Rochas struggling with his über-expensive creations. So he'd be an unlikely choice. Haider Ackerman would also be unlikely. I can't see that Dior appeal in him. But on the other hand I wouldn't have seen that in Galliano in the mid-90s
and he did wonderful things at Dior (until circa 2007:lol:).

My wildest dream is the magical comeback of Helmut Lang. But that is the most unlikely thought of all.

So the most logical choice would be Rodarte. As being said before LVMH eyed them before and I also think they could grow along with their tasks.
