Who Will Succeed John Galliano At Dior? #2 *Update Raf Simons Offically Hired*

why would raf simons do this? i don't get it, what's in it for him?

With no offense intended, I think that's a bit of a rhetorical question. Though I was not the least bit unimpressed with his latest offering at Jil Sander, I'm still not convinced he's a good fit at Dior; not by a long shot. From overt luxuriousness, decorative detail and opulence to minimalism? I'm still a fan of that dreamy fantasy Galliano gave us at Dior. Dior just won't be the same for me. Though I truly hope Simons proves me wrong.

Wow, I guess it is somewhat official? It can't be confirmed until we hear from LVMH though, so let's not jump to conclusions.
I adore Raf Simons and as a loyal customer, I'm nervous his menswear line is going to suffer, which it already has in more ways than one. I also love Dior, with or without Galliano (who I also adore) and I am truly happy that two of my favorite things are coming together. I never really imagined Dior under Raf's minimal aesthetic and I'm not so sure I've fully grasped a clear image of what Dior under his direction would look like...I guess only time will tell.

they didn't waste any time on that one... Raf has quite a bit of support from the industry right now so I guess it does make sense. Quite anxious to see how it will all work out in the end. Most of all I'm happy that it's him and not Ricardo Tisci because I'd die if he left Givenchy right now

What season could be his first collection for Dior?

^According to WWD there won't be time for the new designer to take over the F/W ready-to-wear collection let alone the S/S couture collection, so I guess Raf's debut will be Haute Couture F/W 2012 .

Maybe then Jil Sander will go back to Jil Sander and the universe will make sense again.

The only fashion house worth paying attention to in the LVMH empire is Celine, anyway, now that Kenzo has become a joke. Simons is a talent, but Dior is not the right fit.

I'm quite happy about this choice if it's true indeed.

Sure, I'm gonna miss Raf at Sander but then again, he sounds like a wonderful choice for Dior (and even more when one recalls some of the names that have been popping out in the meantime).

Well, this sounds pretty official, still, who knows yet.

While I'd rather see Simons at YSL, it's not at all bad choice, quite exciting. My only concern is what happens when you put a intellectual designer at a not very intellectual house, look at Pilati and YSL, though talented he has faield to make the required impact to restore the house to its former heights, and YSL IS a house that theoretically could handle such a designer.

anyways, if this happens, it will be quite the coup and it will change EVERYTHING.

raf simons is the first option since this all started (tisci aside) that doesnt make me want to scream in desperation. it's a very weird choice but it'll definitely be something. i'd look forward to it

not sure about this, it's definitely an interesting choice though..
i think they decided to totally change Dior's direction which i don't know yet if i like that or not,
not specially excited or looking forward to it tbh
i agree that he'd fit more in YSL..

I guess we'll have to wait for Dior to issue an official press release. I'm not all that familiar with Raf's work, and I did not like his most recent collection for Jill Sander. The idea of him being at Dior is underwhelming. Though, at least it means we can expect to see no more Collectors' Edition Barbie gowns at the house.

I'm curious about what can bing Raf to Dior?
It could be very interesting, his sporty-couture work for Jill Sander is making every editor fall in love. I think it will give to Dior a new image, Galliano it's Galliano, they need someone fresh with a new vision.

Meanwhile what is John doing/going to do?!?!... I really hope someone hires him or invests in a new Galliano house:unsure:

A spokesperson has stated hat he is concentrating on rehab for now. I just hope he is busy drawing and being creative so he can burst out with the creative energy of god knows how many seasons. I just hope he is feeling well at the moment.

And that Raf thing sounds interesting to me. Not neccesarily good, but definitely interesting. Past couple of Jil Sander ans Raf Simons seasons have been lacklusters but he is capable of doing great things.

Yes first i hope he's feeling better and then I hope he comes out with a collection that stuns us all!

Still not sure about Raf at Dior but willing to wait and see before judging. For his SS12 collection I felt like I was in an institution and they were coming to get me :ninja:
