i doubt jil sander could afford phoebe philo at this point. and i still think lvmh has plans to groom her for their eventual takeover of the house of hermes.

now that would be something. the accessories would be to die for (and priced appropriately).

i think if raf doesn't take the job at dior, it may be the last big name thrown around for a while. it's kind of late in the game now.

^while i agree with this sentiment, if raf doesn't accept the deal, we'll hear many many names bandied about in this contest. as tiresome as this may become for us fashion-watchers, arnault will not let dior go gentle into that good night: too much money depends on it. also, if spring/summer 2012 serves as any indication, almost every designer who put on a runway show has eyes on the dior prize. i've never seen a season more obsessed with that light ladylike playfulness that so many associate with dior.

I think it can be true, because he has been deeply obsessed with the idea of couture and critisims have made all over whetever he should containues the couture idea in Jil Sander?! I guess, Raf himself is a creative machine, to have seduced him to depart it must be the idea of "You get to do couture!" but I wish it's not true, he's been out of the spotlight and focus on his creativities in both Sander and his own, if Dior's call is here, I think everything will be changed

At this point, I kind of just want Galliano back. This whole game isn't fun anymore and strong contenders are pretty scare. I can't imagine Raf for Dior at all.

1) I agree they can't afford Philo.

2) Your conspiracy theory of getting her ready to lead Hermes (which is to say that the house will at some point belong entirely to monsieur Arnault) is so wicked... I can only agree with you on that too B)

I love Raf, I really do, but he's not my ideal person for this job. I don't know, I just can't see him at Dior, it's so not his style. That being said, if it's true I can't wait to see what he'll bring to the table.

Valentino Verdict

With rumours circulating that Raf Simons is the new frontrunner for the Dior job, fellow designer Valentino isn't convinced he'd be the right man for to follow in John Galliano's footsteps.

"I'm not sure - it's an amazing job, I don't know if he would be the right person for it," Valentino told us at a private view of Anthony Souza's new photography exhibition this week. "John Galliano is difficult to replace. I think it's important not to jump into things. It needs to be a logical continuation of the brand. But who am I to say anything? I guess we all just have to wait and see."

For what it’s worth, our little birdy close to Dior says the staff is very excited about the possibility of Simons at the helm (of both Dior and Dior Homme)–even if Valentino isn’t.

says the man who hired accessories designers for his house who continue to spit out the same thing each season...

OK, just imagine his Jil Sander S/S 2012 collection in richer colors, without so many prints, and the models having red lips. I can totally see him at Dior!!! He will just have to tweek a few things:
-No more white shirt dresses
-Not so much pastel colors (use more colors like deep red & navy)
-Incoporate some form of embellishment

I think his shapes & sillhouettes are on point for Dior. We also have to remember how major houses can radically change for the good: Riccardo for Givenchy & Nicolas for Balenciaga, anyone? Lets face it, Galliano is much better than Gaytten, but his last few collections at Dior weren't so good. Its time for a huge change at the house, imo.

with Raf in a power house as Dior,
it is a new revolutionary era is starting on all levels around the world, & the 'Fashion Spring' just bloomed ,,,

Considering Dior's new market base is in the BIRC , Mid East countries, Raf Simons aesthetic will not have any takers there for sure, people there like extravagance, Raf Simons is far removed from that. I agree with Valentino he is a misfit.

The one and only person I see fit to replace Galliano is Olivier Theyskens. There is no one more capable and talented than him that can deliver drama, theatricality, glamor and a hint of darkness. He's young but very well experienced, with Rochas, Nina Ricci and Theory under his belt, he has gained an understanding for commercial and high end fashion. Couture will only be his playground.

perhaps he's hinting that they should choose unknowns from within the house: after all, gucci has flourished (commercially) under a former accessories' designer. further, while the twins haven't given us anything new out of the house of valentino in quite some time, they're keeping those studded shoes and those ruffled bags selling at a non-stop pace. and we all know these houses survive on accessories, fragrance, and beauty.

i know. it's like giles for emanuel ungaro. even if it doesn't work, it'll still be fashion magic to see it.

but, on the other hand, just imagine jil sander f/w 2010 collection at dior. like, lara croft as the inspiration for the season and those sad boots and bags as the must haves.
