^^ So does the last paragraph mean that Galliano's trial is going to start in May, I thought that it was going to start later than that like in the summer? Heck, that's probably going to be fashionable than the royal wedding. :p

ETA:
OK, I think that it is saying that May 12 is when the trial date is going to be set, right?

^ Yeah, May 12. Poor John. Can't he just apply for a legal diversion? lol That's what I did when I went to court.

It would be funny if they did a reality show featuring top designers who compete to be the head Dior designer. They could throw in a few up and coming designers into the mix and have them fight it out.

I hope LVMH doesn't see this comment.

It ain't going to happen but that will be so smutty and dirty. :brows: Flawless idea to me.

I think he has been dismissed by the tFS-crowd earlier in this thread. He's just too conservative. I mean, we don't want this to become another Givenchy by Julien McDonald....

I am not sure if they would do this but Mouret was on my list if they ever decided to have separate lead designers for couture and RTW, with Mouret helming the RTW line for Dior or Givenchy.

NYMAG is reporting that Arnault's advisers have released a list of their top choices and Sarah Burton is a top contender...

^ I don't see that happening. Sarah just took over McQueen, there is no need for her to take on another house when her seat at McQueen isn't even warm yet.

LVMH is taking its time with the announcement of Dior's new designer, and it sounds like the decision still has yet to be made. At a recent shareholders' meeting, Bernard Arnault said the plan was to interview a number of candidates before making the call when "conviction" arrives.
But who's reportedly on the short list of candidates Bernard Arnault's advisors have submitted? Tom Ford, Hedi Slimane, Olivier Theyskens, Nicholas Ghesquiere, Alber Elbaz, Haider Ackermann, Prabal Gurung, and Sarah Burton. However, a source in Paris told WWD that LVMH is placing less importance on marquee names and focusing rather on “someone who understands Dior and fits the needs of the company.”

While Arnault, chairman of the board at Dior, is sure to get the final say on the appointee, Dior CEO Sidney Toledano, who has helmed the company since 1998, and Delphine Arnault (Bernard's daughter), deputing managing director at Dior and widely viewed as the eventual LVMH heir apparent, are also expected to weigh in. Apparently Dior execs are also receiving unsolicited designer suggestions from top editors and even shareholders.

Delphine, for her part, is seen as a champion of Riccardo Tisci; the Givenchy designer has reportedly been lobbying for the position as well, sketching out his vision for the brand. Bernard Arnault, meanwhile, is reportedly transfixed by royalty, and if Sarah Burton does dress Kate Middleton for her wedding at the end of the month (despite Burton's and the McQueen company's denials), she may pull ahead in the race. Arnault would be keen to launch the new Dior alongside the newly-married couple; Princess Diana, after all, helped catapult the brand's image in 1995 when she wore a Lady Dior bag and then in 1996 when she wore a midnight blue, bias-cut Dior gown by John Galliano to the Costume Institute Gala.

In the meantime, design duties are falling on Dior's in-house design studios, headed by Bill Gaytten, who has worked beside Galliano since the '80s. They're already creating the Cruise 2012 collection and have started in on the upcoming Fall 2011 couture collection, in preparation for its debut in July.

How did we NOT think of Sarah Burton?!?!?!?!
It really is the first time I see her name around here, but it kind of makes sense!
All the time we've been looking at candidates that were either jobless, or designing for another big house (sans eponymous lines). But if Galliano could handle both, and other designers under the LVMH umbrella can, why not Sarah?

Well, there's of course the difficulties of the McQueen brand being part of PPR. I dont think we've ever seen a designers simultaneously designing for both, have we?
Things could get pretty ugly! Besides that, it all sounds like a beautiful alternative:
Lady Dior all over, Sarah exploiting her McQueen side and her more personal one in different collections...

one can dream, no?

My secret favorite is Alexis Mabille... :flower: (one can indeed dream)

do you thinkg who ever gets this positios will have a collection ready for the next fashion week? or whoever it is maybe is working already?

I'd like to see a woman at a huge brand like Dior.

i just think there's something romantic (really, with a capital r) about hedi slimane returning to the house of dior. i'm impressed with prabal gurung that he even got a mention. i don't really buy that sarah burton is in serious running for dior: first, it'd cost a mint to steal her away from ppr, and second, did arnault end things well with mcqueen and givenchy?

but if they're even considering tom ford, that means they're thinking about throwing some serious money behind this position. i'm surprised alexis mabille isn't on the list making me wonder if arnault doesn't like the poor chap.

I feel this way about that shortlist :

Tom Ford - This would be absolutely amazing. I can guarantee that. He honestly understands luxury of a certain kind that is rare in these days. It's also the type of luxury that sells very well ! Tom will also attract celebrities of course which is what the executives seem to love. He's a mature designer by this time and most definitely can do haute couture. It just seems like everyone wins in this situation.

Hedi Slimane - This would also be very amazing as it would bring some type of cool to the women's side while still being luxury. I am not sure how he would do for haute couture, but I have a feeling it would be really interesting. Really could work !

Olivier Theyskens - Olivier would be a nice choice as he does capture the romanticism and whimsical nature of what Galliano has established, but in a less camp way. The problem with him is that he had troubles at Rochas before with sales, daywear, and I do not recall any "hit" accessories ... but then again that's what an accessories team at this major house is for non ? Could work.

Nicholas Ghesquiere - I feel very weird about this possibility. I love what he is doing at Balenciaga quite a bit, but I am not sure I would like that for Dior. Nicholas is definitely a genius and makes demi-couture that is very wearable. It has a luxury vs street sense which could attract the young customers.

Alber Elbaz - Great designer. He needs to stay at Lanvin though.

Haider Ackermann - His works are nice, but I just cannot see this working at Dior !

Prabal Gurung - His designs are okay. The problem with this is that it seems it would be an extension of the beat-to-death "New Look" era Galliano was producing starting circa 2007. It's very old. This is Dior's chance to start something fresh and I believe by going with Gurung, it would continue a little in the recent collections of what an imagined Dior Lady is to be.

Sarah Burton - I can't see that, but maybe I would be proven wrong. Besides, I think she should stay at McQueen as she is doing just fine there and to turn that house into turmoil again would not be good.

Now, if I could add someone to this list, it would be Alessandra Facchinetti. Why ? She's fresh, not too much tainted in the fashion industry considering her short stays at Gucci and Valentino. She understands women very well and her haute couture collection was stunning ! I think she is a combination of that shortlist almost combining the precision of Ford, the intuition that Elbaz has of women (and she understands more because she is a woman I think), has a delicate and romantic side like Theyskens, and etc. She would be great I think !

I'm done writing.
