Why Do All The Models Smoke?

Models smoking...
Gisele
Stephanie Seymour
Naomi Campbell
As I said, it's mostly the older ones.
And Tupolev's right about the cultural acceptance thing. That might be part of the reason you don't see many of the newer models smoking. (Except for those girls, who are pretty much daft anyway).

I look forward to hearinging more from you Tupolev- welcome to TFS! :flower:

smoking is not the black stain in europe that it is elsewhere...and it's only become socially unacceptable recently as others have said... it's still considered pretty cool to smoke in the fashion industry...

and it really does work as a stress reiliever and appetite suppresant ... many many people in fashion still smoke...not just the models... :innocent: :ninja:

In Europe, they might as well just hand you a pack of smokes when you get off the plane.

Smoking is not for me-but I think everyone needs to let people do what they want to with their own bodies and not judge.

Here is linda smoking- if i am not mistaken, she is REALLY young right?

Most of the kids at my school started smoking at around 12 or 13...

I just realized, what with all the models smoking backstage, those areas must really start to stink after a while... :yuk:

To all of you who think they're totally idiots, they're kidding around-

kidding in a, im on some kind of drug way.

believe me, i have a sense of humor.

I hate to generalize but it was pretty obvious. Paris Hilton often has that glazed look to her too.

I agree with softie ... you have to go through hours of hair & make up and last minute fittings ... you've to be hours in advance -sometimes- and you get bored ... you have to keep in mind that models of course get nervous and stressed before the show ... nicotine does relax you as well as a bit og bubbly ...
I personally do not see it as an endorsement .. I'd rather attack Kimora Lee Simmons and her fashion show that portrayed models smoking as [sarcasm]glamorous (...as her clothing! Ha!).[/sarcasm]

And they apparently often provide champagne backstage as well... :innocent:

alot of people smoke.
and your point is?
Not that I've got anything against the Marlboro man [/b][/quote]
my point is people smoek model or not

I think something like 35% of Americans smoke, but in some parts of the world, the % is probably double that. Since so many models are not American, that may have something to do with it as well, though I think the "smoke rather than eat" explanation is probably the most spot on.

Kissing a smoker isn't much fun either. :yuk:

I have to admit, a cigarette + drink is a killer combo (har har). And I'm sure part of it is a social thing. Sometimes if you're with a group of friends who are smoking around you it's tempting to have one too. It's weird but I get cigarette cravings sometimes and I don't smoke. I doubt all of them are chain smokers.

hehe, i know in france the lyceens have a smoking break and everyone goes outside and smokes for 5 mins  i mean, i've jus noticed it heaps around lately...and i spose it gets annoying.

I find it very disappointing that anyone still smokes these days.

Unless you have been living underneath a rock, you have to be aware of all the implications smoking has on one's health.

I reckon the excuses people have are very poor excuses, but then again it's their life not mine, just don't smoke anywhere near me.

ps- a model who doesnt smoke is Christy Turlington, good on her! I'm sure you've all heard the story (after 10 yr stint with smoking, learned she had developed early stage emphysema and so decided to quit, and now is involved with the anti-smoking movement)

she keeps a website here- http://www.smokingisugly.com/main.html
