Why do you like/hate Dior?

Like said before Gallianos srtuff is extremely tacky and really.....try hard and Galliano has made Dior famous for that but just cuz its famous for it doesnt mean its a good thing. Id say Dior is now INFAMOUS for its tacky and try hard image. Some people like his cheap looking stuff but still look at it and say: "Thats ridiculously good looking" it may be good looking but never the less its ridiculous.

i think it reflects you and lena

With all that being said....If someone were to offer you FREE Christian Dior Apparel, bags, and shoes covered in logo's....I BET YOU'D WEAR IT THEN!!! If Dior doesn't offer the designs you like than what designers do you like???

like all designers, Dior (by Galliano) has some pieces i like and some pieces i dont.

I think it's impossible to completely generalize that its "all good" or "all bad" - for Any designer [or anything at all for that matter] and to do so is silly, and pointless

All the disgusting logoed stuff that people wear solely to slow off their money has made me hate everything Dior makes. A decent amount of their stuff doesn't actually have visible logos on it, but I wouldn't buy those either. Dior just makes me think of tacky people and I would feel tacky if I bought it.

of course, for his time Christian Dior was a real couturier and a true innovator

modern Dior has really nothing to do with the legacy/hisotry of the House

i disagree, to my eyes the modern Dior has a lot to do with the work of Christian Dior himself, as some said, his work was unpractical, concidered by many at that time indecent and inmoral due to the extensive use of fabric in each piece, his most characteristic silhouette was inspired by elements of the past and his creations were certainly made to be seen, what we now consider as a classic look was pretty shocking back then, and of course, although a couture house with a legacy shout respect it´s traditions, shout at the same time be able to recreate them in order to bring it back to the present and the future.

the perfect excuse to say Dior is tacky is because they created logoed accesories, but im totaly pro logo accesories, fashion is a bussines and as long as there is a demand or consumers willing to buy logoed bags it will be pretty stupid from Dior to stop making them and at the same time i also find great that they create new accesories each season that aren´t necesarily made in logo canvas material for the clients that don´t need them wich for example, as far as i know, doesn´t happen at Vuitton, wich creates every single item in one or another version of the logo leather.

logos look stupid- like you're insecure and don't know what looks good, so you buy something with a logo thinking it'll make you look sophisticated- but it doesn't work that way

but still i like some of the crap that galliano himself designs- though his personal apperarance is crazy as h*ll.

Anyway- Why does anyone feel the need to bash on his designs? Are you trying to prove something?

I completely agree with the disagreement! :p

As I mentioned in an earlier post, one can see the influence of Christian Dior in what Galliano is doing, particuarly with the couture silhouette. While I don't always love Galliano's interpretation, I appreciate that he is aware of the legacy of the house. From interviews I've seen, I do think that he honestly believes that he is honouring and preserving that legacy. Whether he is successfully doing so is another discussion!

If someone was to offer me free Dior apparel and accessories the only reason why id take it was to sell it to suckers hahahahaha. I never said Dior never offered the designs i liked, I like a lot of Dior stuff, but after gaining the reputation of being totally logoed, wearing Dior makes me feel cheap. My favorite designers are Versace, Heathertte and probably DSquared.

Heatherette.

Anyway...

Tackiness... I think that this is why some people hate Dior and some love it. It is probably why our opinions are so different here. But I don't think he goes for a tacky sort of look at all. Galliano's flambouyant ness just spews tackiness. Not in a bad way. It just happens because he doesn't try to make his clothes tasteful or clean or expensive looking. All he is doing is giving us a new attitude or mood or feel every season... and I love it.

Nothing wrong with Heathrette justinleaddict, just like u like Dior and dislike Heathertte, Im the opposite.

how can you not like Dior, because it's "tacky" and then go and say you're a fan of Heatherette??!?!?!?!

random pictures from style.com/ all gorgeous, creative, saying something beyond please look at me, i´m a circus freak!!!!!, there´s no way you could even start comparing Dior and Heatherette, i wasn´t even going to keep on this very childish discussion but i think people have to be responsible for the things they post, as a Dior and Galliano fan i can find myself shocked that someone who says that likes heatherette, dislikes Dior because of its apparent tackyness, heatherette is the epitome of trashy, unfounded, plain and horribly executed, nightmarish vulgarity, they aren´t even creators but lucky, attention seekers ex dancers (i don´t care if i made a mistake on their previous occupations, i don´t care about them and i don´t waste my time searching for anything related to them), Galliano is a true artist and couturier that have given enaugh contributions to the fashion world to be on the position he is today, if you don´t believe me, buy an updated or recently released fashion history book and you´ll realise why one can´t even start making the slight comparison between those two labels.

j'adore dior: I understand it hurts when a favourite designer gets insulted - do be careful though - "epitome of trashy" is a little harsh.

As for comments that Dior has become "tacky", I beg to differ. It doesn't matter if Galliano has designed a few logoed items and produced some things that come across as "tacky" - it's only a few and every designer is given license to occasionally (and hopefully rarely) produce things which are unsatisfactory. Nobody's perfect and we certainly can't believe Galliano to be so. What we can be happy with, however, is that Galliano is certainly a talented genius and has managed to create collections that simply wow people. Galliano is one of the rare designers who actually dare to send their creative juices down the runway. It's only with experimenting like that that people truly see where his genius lies. The fact that he dares to test the line between flamboyant wit and flamboyant tackiness shows that he's definitely a very competent designer.

Or maybe it's just that I love flamboyant people.

stilettogirl84: Yes I absolutely agree that "[Galliano's] personal apperarance is crazy as h*ll"! I recall a shot of him showing off his well-worked (actually not much but still quite hot) abs and doing some crazy rock n' roll pose - it would've been a very swoon-worthy picture if it wasn't for the fact that he had that weird moustache on and a wild hat that looked as though fashion had puked on it!

And Dior isnt? And Galliano doesn't seek attention with his own vulgarity? The only thing that puts Dior at a "higher level" is that it is a Paris-based fashion house that has a Haute Couture collection. If he were based in New York without an enormous budget, etc, something along the lines of Heatherette is what you would see. I hold both Galliano and Richie rich in the same esteem, both disrespect the female (and in Galliano's case, with his "menswear" line, the male) form and image. Both create an image of vulgarity, without an ounce of class. S/S 05 was an exception, but it was made like that because Christian Dior needed something tangible and wearable like that, $$$$$ matters.
