1. If unsure, far better to go to an event overdressed than underdressed, thus at least showing respect for the occassion.
2. Too much color coordination = Paris Hilton tacky. Nobody needs to be in head to toe pink, no matter if the hues vary.
3. Quality over quantity, always.
4. If something works very well for you -- buy multiples and make it your signature. Polos happen to be something of a trademark of mine -- I own practically every colour Ralph Lauren and Burberry make.
5. Never wear clothing that you're truly not thin enough to wear. Be honest.
6. Never wear faux jewelry, unless you can pull it off in a very light-hearted manner. Nothing is more tacky than attempting to pass off a CZ as a diamond with a haughty attitude.
7. As with no faux jewelry, no faux handbags of any sort. Tacky, tacky, tracky.
8. No polyester. No exceptions.
9. Posture is important: learn how to carry your clothes.
