I miss Alex's theatrics ...that being said, I do like this collection. Including the belts - even if they are a bit gaudy - they work. Some of it is very romantic, almost 17th century English renissance... I also like the shoes.. very mystical.

Its a sad sad day. Mcqueen goes mainstream. Looks like any other collection now. How unfortunate....It seems that this seasons fashion week presenations, for the most part, has gone down hill with very few designers actually giving us something to look at...

I definaltey see the sass and bide-ness, especially that harness from a few posts up. it looks kind of painful, btw. I used to like sass and bide, but they got old so quickly.

Waieeeeeet. Is he designing for both him and givenchy because those belts look extremely similar. But whatever. Im honestly dissappointed in him. I ALWAYS (and i mean it seriously like the depressed persian towtruck man) look forward to his collections. I still don't see him every outdoing his chess collection or the collection based on the drowned girls and amazon chicks. Here is a giant example of the belts.

Just possibly a wh*re-ABLE coincidence, or possibly the indication of a frighting trend .
Oh btw Givenchy hearts are sooooo Britney Spears overprotected girl-woman transition.

i dont hate all of it.....

some of the sandals/shoes are quite gorgeous....
and i love the greek goddess inspiration.....
silver and white.....black and gold....the deep emerald green....
i think the colors are really strong....

there are few looks i think are lovely....
that long white gown with the gold across the chest....
the other long white gown with the silver detailing...
they are elegant and a little bit exciting.....

i think a big strength of this collection is how 'together' it is....
you can see the inspiration threaded through every look....
there is a common feel that brings it all together...

not his strongest collection,by any means....
but its definitely not the worst thing ive seen....

To be honest,I wasn't merely referring to his theatrics(nah...I've always had a thing about that actually)but really the clothes themselves...the precision,the meticulously esoteric spirit is so not in this.

But I don't understand how he hasn't been staying afloat...he's got two shops(three?),he's been having some of the strongest and most talked wanted collections for the longest....so I can't quite grasp how he's not making money.

I don't think it's that he wasn't making money, he just wasn't making enough to satisfy the new heads of GucciGroup. They've become so tyrranical really, and while Balenciaga may be flourishing, Lee is certainly not doing his best work.

I was thinking, maybe Lee did this as a sort of warning to young talent out there, kind of a "stay away from GucciGroup or else" kinda thing (it's unlikely I know, but it gives me just a hint of comfort)

I agreed with majority of the collection, although i found it very mainstream. Its not what i expected. It wasnt true McQueen style, I enjoyed the shoes. Hated the hair on the models argh !

YES! That's exactly my thought...yes, it's sexy and vulgar but...it's damn mesmerizing. I feel it's like Kubrick...a Kubrick scene--be it totally insane or completely banale--still evokes a wholly unique Kubrick universe, down to each detail...

A work of art could be overtly sexy, vulgar, commercial, it could be all of these things and still wonderful if it transports your imagination. Of course some of the outfits are gross if you think of wearing them on a daily basis (I wouldn't wear most of them ), but the vulgarity, the champion belts, the skin... it's all part of the plan, the vision...which is quite complete, and quite poisonous. B)

you know what. i've been on the phone for 2 hours staring at this collection in front of me and it's hit me. i did agree think your post was intriguing before, but now it's hit me... mcqueen didn't earn the infante terrible nickname for nothing...perhaps this seedy underbelly is as dark and beautiful and thought provoking as any of his more 'romantic' dark collections. if you look back at mcqueen there's some brutal stuff... and in a way, many people feel as if they are being brutalized again, but it's catching you off guard. the thing is it might sell, and he's he's still keeping true to his roots... it's controversial and slightly shockingly in bad taste. anyways, that's just what i say...

Seedy underbelly? Shockingly in bad taste...? Now, THAT's what I was talking about! B)

Some of the details are highly reminiscent of Princess Leia's sex-slave outfit at Jabba's palace... or Salome at Herod's palace...stinking of sex, greed and power. I see the overt decadence,banality, and bad taste as all part of McQueen's lurid and lyrical irony...he may even be giving the fashion finger or a sort of indirect social commentary. While the unsuspecting Gucci lovers are drooling over the glitz and his usual admirers are gagging on it, Lee may be having the best laugh of all...
