I'm sorry, but to me this looks very un-McQueen. Sure, there are plenty of things in there that he's explored before such as Victoriana, tailoring, Goya....but when I think of his past work, I can't recall a time where he's used flower petals under a veil of blush colored tulle, or anything that's traditionally pretty for that matter. While he may have used details like florals, birds and victoriana, it's never been so straighforward and I'd hardly call those things signature McQueen. To me there isn't very much that's dark about this collection, most of it is quite light and traditionally feminine. There's no aggression, no hard edge, no apparent subversion so for those reasons I say it looks un-McQueen. I'd hardly consider myself an expert in fashion, but I'd never say a collection isn't typical of any designer without having a pretty good idea of what they're about.zamb said:well, how is it un-McQueen?
what about it that makes it un McQueen?
this is signature McQueen, at his best i might add.
anyone who has followed him over the years know that there are very specific things that he is drawn to, these things have become reccuring themes in his work.
victorian silhoettes
sharp tailoring
pleated pants
dark aesthetic
circle skirts
tailored jumsuits
birds
flowers
lots of black and beige
his themes and his execution change from season to season but his style does not change, and it shouldnt.
all great designers have a signature style and this should not change from season to season
yes, along with chalayan and galliano (three british designers) they have produced the best collections of this season, with McQueen probably being the best.
also, for those being concerned with wearability, and questions about padded hips, Go to the showroom, view the pre-collection or wait till february when the spring merchandise hit the retail floor.
the man is having a SHOW, yes a HESS ---EICH---OOOHHH ---DOUBLE UU (SHOW) this is what fashion shows are about, the extremeties and exaggerations of a designers vision, it is not about everything being wearable....................
