Alexander Wang F/W 10.11 New York

michaeloats - you might get more response in this thread: Fall/Winter 10.11 Runway Music

This one is mainly to talk about the designer/collection :flower:

In the UK we have a service called Shazam where you can call a number on your mobile and hold it up to a recording and it will ID. I'm not sure if they have one in Spain but if you have a recording you could try that.

oh thanks.

I watched this live stream sneakily at work but I wasn't able to come talk about it here because i did have to "work" until now.

I have to say the beginning was a mess. Prada, Chloe (current weird in between chloe), ann d, 90s mess. Around the gray sweater dress I started to turn around. I have always thought that Wang's Grecian eveningwear is his best, and I think that is the case here as well. I don't know why he focuses so much on grungey daywear.

The biggest WTF for me was the tails. Everything has a train/tail, even coming out the backpacks. WTF is that? It looked like black toilet paper.

OMG

SO original in the shapes and cuts :

Even a bad MMM collection looks better.

Must be one of the most mediocre designers in history, its collections are rubbish:sick:

Don't love all of this.. the girls look like the suiting was hard to move in.. but I love the crop lacy top on Iris and on a few of the other girls in wine and under coats...and my fav peice was the half sheer, half pink velvet dress on hanne, also like the velvet boots.. just not together with the velvet dress...

once we got to the cocktail dresses at the end, i felt it was more classic wang (if you can even reference such a thing).

prior to that it was ALL OVER the place. the hair was a hot mess. there was NOTHING cool about it.

Whoa, these clothes do not photograph well to me at all! I liked the collection in the video but seeing the photographs on style.com kinda made me gag. Not a photogenic collection.

I am so upset I missed this show! I didn't know I was invited until this morning. UGH

i did not like this show.

The pin stripe pieces just looked outdated even if they were actually studs. The mid drift pieces are only for his 20-something demographic. The velvet pieces are not any better but i appreciate the exploration of fabric.

The only flattering piece probably was the thing on the legs (socks/legwarmers?). it made the models look longer but i worry for the rest of us.

As for the accesories, the notable one for me was the backpack. I liked the long fabric attached to it especially from the front it made me curious but i wonder if that detail will be edited out. The shoes with bright toes were nice as well.

Overall did not like it and confused by the positive praise here. Wang dresses for the cool hipsters and these looks annoyingly contrived cool.

clearly he's not done referencing the nineties, but one must say that he's evolved so far from the blazers and denim cutoffs that he splashed onto the market with. i'm happy that he's willing to experiment this way as he's still a young designer without a overly established vocabulary, but one wishes that he'd spent a little more time making these clothes look more finished in a way.

with that said, it's so directional and so un-safe that i'm sure the editorials will eat it up. also, it feels oddly related to altazurra.

Well Wang has certainly obtained himself a silhouette and 'quirkiness' he seems to be sticking to. I happen to dislike them.
