Alexander Wang F/W 10.11 New York

some of the dresses were great, but....he's trying to be too many people at once. throwing everything in there..too much. too much. i did like the use of velvet though, i have to say. cropped pieces were gross.

I felt this collection was too literal to the 90's. I mean, witchy looks using velvet? not original.

He really struggles with Fall/Winter doesnt he? Every year its the same story; brilliant Spring/Summer collection and a mediocre Fall/Winter collection.

Spring 2010 was genius because he took the idea of American sportswear and used it to create something new, exciting and dynamic. Sure, there was a lot of kitsch there and there was a fair amount of unwearable clothing, but on the whole it was the most interesting collection to come out of New York.

As much as I admire Wang's audacity and his thought process in taking the idea of the American Wall-Street aesthetic, this collection just doesn't impress me. And dare I say this is a little boring? We saw a lot of these looks in his Pre-Fall collection (the idea of the suit) and frankly speaking he could have done so much more with it. He didn't push this collection very far and thats what disappoints me most of all.

By Meenal Mistry

Earlier this week, an accessories editor at a major magazine told me she was forced to ask the staff's stylists to stop using Alexander Wang's lace-up sandal boot from Spring 2009 in their shoots. Consider that: a contemporary designer snagging a seasonal honor—Most Favored Editorial Shoe—usually taken by the likes of Balenciaga or Louis Vuitton.

Defined purely by price point, his is a contemporary brand. But it's a label Wang politely chafes at, and over the past three seasons he's become sui generis: a designer with the creative chops to increasingly earn a place in high fashion's conversation, but whose clothes are accessible to more than just the one percent.

Situated at this powerful vantage point, Wang chose Wall Street's Masters of the Universe as his starting point for Fall. He took the traditional banker's suit—a push into uncharted territory for this Master of the T-shirt—and deconstructed it in a dark and sexy vein. It was "about growing up, about progress," Wang said before the show. "It's a lot more sophisticated, more polished." Polished yes, but hardly proper. Wang knows his girl, and she's not following the office dress code.

Cropped blazers, tailcoats, and vests exposed slivers of skin and were worn with thick ribbed thigh-high legwarmers, often yanked down over chunky heels. Matching backpack straps were crisscrossed in front to give a bondage vibe. Layering was part of the story, but Wang's goal was to do it in a more precise, less street-chic manner, slicing away extraneous elements. A key part of that was his new trouser, a sort of glorified belled legging that his leggy front-row fans will no doubt jump all over.

Perhaps as a counterpoint to his gray flannel inspiration, Wang also made the case for velvet in all forms, including chenille. That seems a tough sell, even for him. Then again, there's a good likelihood that the growing number of worldwide Wang-ettes—some of whom surely caught the show live-streamed on SHOWstudio or on the massive American Eagle LED billboard in Times Square—will love every little bit.

Yes to the tailored trousers, lengthier skirts and clothes that follow the body's lines. Some sleek pieces there!

NO to the cropped pieces (tummy flesh in the winter!), no to leather, and a giant no to all the too short-too tight dresses (enough with this continuously reproduced designer AND high street "trend" already!). The last three dresses especially... :yuk:

Passable overall... from a non Wang fan.

the pink/nude velvet dress is going to be a "must have" and totally copied by high street stores.
love the collection not my fav but it's very beautiful..hate the shoes :(

This was/is the most anticipated show in New York for me. Great to see such a since collection from Wang!
The fabrics and cuts look amazing, makes me want to touch every piece.

As much as I don't want to like this, I just do. I love the whole grunge-chic idea going on. The Lace like tops are fantastic and the coat on Abbey is quite nice as well.

the show was impeccable, i loved every piece, Wang has become one of my absolute favorite designers, loved the trains as the models walked back..just gorgeous:buzz::clap::clap:
