what were they thinking with the 2nd shot on 17738? they made her look like ms.jay!!!

I really don't mind McKey, but that Seventeen cover is terrible. She looks like Joker, no kidding. Actually I think she needs to never laugh on camera, other than a light smile. Her mouth is too big for that.

I don't think they are there first choice. They are probably the only magazine that will be assosciated with them in America.Elle backed out,God knows Vogue and Harper's Bazaar wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole,so what's left?

I agree that the cover and the beauty shots are not flattering. I think the problem is that McKey has high fashion features. Considering this is Seventeen, they had to commercialize her; make her a "Seventeen" kind of model that her readers could relate to. It just doesn't work.

For the Seventeen crowd, I think Samantha should have won.

I dont know why oh why do they stick to that mag ??? As if it does have any meaning in fashion world B)

...which is a perfect fit, really for ANTM. Seventeen appeals to the people who actually watch the program and who care about the models. As being on the show pretty much precludes the girls from working in the high fashion mainstream, they stick to what they can get. After all, it isn't as though most people who watch ANTM know much about what constitutes "high" fashion modelling or magazines (at least judging from the statements of the girls who were fans and then got on the show).

Couldn't agree more. What I do find funny is how easily the word "high fashion" gets thrown around after ANTM came around.

i was watching antm since the first cycle, and the only cycle that i actually liked was the second
it had the most "couture" girls, every photoshoot was fashion-related and very well photographed etc
and a few days ago i decided to rewatch the cycle [after 4 years] to understand what made this cycle so good
and i actually did
the thing is that the winner gets signed by IMG, which is no doubt, the bigest and the most powerfull agency with the best models
so my point is, it's obvious that miss banks-shmanks does not decide which girls will get in, she doesn't even get to the photoshoot, and i'm not speaking about viewing 10.000 tapes and deciding who can actually be a model
as i think agency that will hire the model pretty much decides who will be chosen
and that's why we had Yoanna, Shandi, Sara, Catie, April, Mercedes, because the agency wanted to get a model that can walk the biggest shows and shoot the biggest campaigns
and since cycle 2, there was only 2 girls that i actually consider as high-fashion-capable, it's Nicole [cycle 5] and McKey [lol how lucky am i that they won their cycles :D]
it's so sad that nicole was stuck in america , i know for sure that paris would love her, as it loved alice, and now we lost nicole as even a possibility of a successfull model, since she's like 25 now:(
and mckey, i was very glad that she won, the only girl who could compete with her in the cycle was analeigh, but she's too unique for fashion, she wouldn't book any job i think. but now, seeing the tests and the seventeen shoot, i'm kinda dissapointed with mckey, she seems to be to good for seventeen-type shoots, but still not good enough for bigger brands
and i also wonder why did not yoanna become successfull, i mean, gorgeous girl+IMG always equals to succes, doesn't it?

There is a thread to discuss weight issues. Just so you know.

To your other question, designers don't always want to see their designs on a girl that's been on reality tv because there is more hype about the girl itself than the clothes.

And to answer your last question, gorgeous girl + IMG does not always equal success. It's about marketing for the girl as well. Yoanna was a little fish in a big pond. There's a lot of girls in my opinion on different boards that deserve a lot more attention but they don't get booked because they are overseen because of other girls with more experience or a better look. At the end, there is no true guaranteed formula for success. At least not through reality tv.

i wrote practically the same thing about alice in her thread :D
and the weight issue was not even a point of my post, just an off-topic note about a girl

well i think if antm would keep going as good as it was in cycle 2, without thos eva-diva's, jade's and other b*tches that only got ratings, antm could easily be a good platform for starting models, just like auntm was for alice
