Balmain S/S 11 Paris

Just watched the collection again and I have to see I REALLY miss the typical glitzy Balmain dresses...the show feels incomplete without them!
It's good but nowhere as good as previous season or SS09(which is still the TOP Balmain collection for me)

This is way too trashy. You can get this look for like £30 in Camden, why pay thousands of euros for it? Huge disappointment.
I don't really see how the possible high retail price for those pieces is relevant? This thread is about the collection itself and not whether or not it will be worth the money. We all know Balmain is overpriced. And we all know how uncool it is to love this. And we also know that in spite of everyone trashing this now we'll eventually end up getting every single one of Zara's knock off's of this collection next spring
Personally I like the collection. I'll admit that some things do look more Hot Topic than high fashion, but I do love most of the looks (especially the dirty tees that look like they have blood spilled over them :ninja: ) and I'm always happy to see rock and punk chic is still going strong :P

Decarnin's aesthetic has proved successful time and time again. I'm almost certain he had his audience in mind. Emmanuelle Alt? To name one.

Okay, yes, he probably had that type of clientele in mind and that's where I get confused. What I tried to say was that I can't picture women like Emmanuelle Alt wearing something that looks like it's been taken straight from the trash bin. The question is why Decarnin would want to dress them in this? My perception of class (when it comes to dressing) doesn't correspond to this collection at all.

It might just be me who's tired of the Balmain aesthetic and can't understand why someone would pay €700 when you can get a tee like that in Camden for less than £10.

Yes ive seen it all before, Yes its repetative but i loved it....The studded jackets, the slouchy overpeiced vests, the shorts, mini skirts, painted jeans, all brought together and made Balmain again...people will buy this, because its Balmain, but its a nice collection, i do miss the dresses...

I loved last season. The coats were exquisite. But this is just a p*ss poor effort to be honest. Usually people follow Decarnin not the other way around. What a shame. Oh well there's always next time.

If she styled the show and I was Isabel Marant I would be all "What is up with this Emmanuelle" eyebrow raised, foot tapping lol.

The look-a-like thread is going to be running hot today/tomorrow.

o.m.g. i actually like this collection. ok so that away the fact that it's overpriced and that it's balmain, i think the clothes themselves and the styling is on point for the image they're going for. and i see this collection as more punk inspired and unlike his previous efforts, i don't see so much "trashiness".. or is punk trashy? his execution? :shrugs:

i seriously can't believe all the positive reviews this is getting here. this is beyond repetitive and boring. by far decarnin's worst season to date. and to add...i'm a huge fan of his...it's just time to move on from whatever people are calling this..."hooker chic" is it?

**do not discuss models in Designers & Collections, please*
I expect some creative development from him. If I remember correctly this is the 7th or 8th season in a row with the same inspirations and even the same pieces.

But the quality is good, though

So boring and redundant. Wow, this guy is just a 1 trick pony. The best thing about this R&R thing he's been doing for several seasons already were at least those blinged out dresses, this collection doesn't even have that. Who would pay 10 grand to look so cheap? The last look on Daria in the white bustier & distressed jeans... pure Jersey Shore.

It looks like Emmanuelle Alt and Isabel Marant like everyone else has already mentioned but designers are supposed to be innovators. He should be inspiring her style, not the reverse.

I remember how lovely was spring summer 2008 collection. But now this collection reminds me Isabel Marant fall collection because of a lot of cropped pants, red color, leather biker jackets. But Isabel's collection was better because it was full of elements from 50's decade. But this collection suitable for Taylor Momsen. I think she was his muse when he made this collection. Nothing new and Christophe played very safety, he can't play with volume, shapes, he just copies jeans, skinny leather pants and corsets. He is not an artist, a desigher as Galliano, Cavalli or Lagerfeld, he is just a stylist

<No matter how hard I try to suppress my laughter....>

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

I cannot believe this guy.

Prices aside, since I can't even afford bridge. strong shoulder, low rise jean, its like ok we get it. It's the Balmain look. Cudo's to any designer that can create an identifiable silhouette these days. But couldn't he apply his aesthetic to Something new? At this point its like why even have a show? To quote Cathy Horyn's review today [ "...but punk is now a style cliché. That Balmain is one of the most expensive labels, with a plain undershirt (without holes) costing around $450, makes the notion of a safety-pinned jacket something of a joke — and not even a very clever one."

Studs, safety pins, tye-dyes, ripped tights, holes... It's like two years ago that I have been seeing these DIYs in every blog.

^ so true!
I feel as if Balmain has been doing the same thing for a while now, and it's starting to get boring. It might be because I expect a lot from Balmain every year, but I just dont think this collection was to par.

i hate thats this is boring but i cant resist the gorgeous jackets and that sexy pant...he does kate Moss better than Kate Moss...so chic but again im getting tired of seeing the same old clothes every season especially when this looks EXACTLY like Isabel Marant's Fw 2010 collection

I for one am glad Decarnin keeps putting out these kinds of collections. Bad fashion design must exist in order for us to appreciate good fashion design.

I didn't expect more from him - the show was as repetitive and tacky as always (but I'm sure that we will see at least half of the fashionista's world wearing these clothes).

Just viewed the whole collection on vogue.co.uk. I can honestly say, that I love it. There is so many good pieces. As usual the attention to detail is stellar.
There's something appealing about the signed t-shirt. Plus those pants are so luxe, always have been always will be.
