Catherine, Princess of Wales (Kate Middleton)

^ Yes, that's it.

Well, according to this thread, she only worked there for a few months. Seems more like she took it just to have a job and not sit around all day waiting for a proposal, not because she actually enjoyed/was interested in fashion and wanted to pursue a career in it. It probably could have been any job that didn't require a lot of work, e.g. styling, magazine contributor, etc.

were this theory true, it wouldn't put her in the best light imo

^As you said a theory, based on this thread (which really doesn't say much imo).

There really is a huge amount of venom in this thread from a lot of people who have never met her and don't know her personally.

Truth is we just don't know if she worked, or what work it was she did for her parents' business. In the only interview she has given she said she is not bothered about what people think of her work, the people who know her and worked with her know she worked very, very hard, so why would she care what a load of spiteful journalists write about her, they have a serious agenda to paint her, and her family, in the most negative light possible and people who don't like her gobble it up and use it as a stick to constantly beat her round the head with.

There is absolutely no point in her trying to defend herself so I think she is right to keep to herself. British society & the media are too consumed with knocking people down at every opportunity.

Plus, it's not some celebrity tittle-tattle - it's the Royal Family. I don't want to see pictures of what they got up to this week in Reveal or Heat magazine.

Are we changing the name of this thread to Princess Catherine of Wales on the 29th? :)

I would assume the mods will do it. It would only be appropriate to change it. I haven't been following too closely, has it been decided that Princess Catherine of Wales will be her title? I had read a few different options for her, such as
Her Royal Highness Princess William but then again if he get the title of Duke, she would be a Duchess and so many more!

"Her Royal Highness Princess William" is the official and traditional title she would receive. But, the Royal Family has actually adapted to the times and Queen Elizabeth may decide to make Kate "Catherine Princess of Wales".
Meanwhile, it is still up to Kate to accept these titles. She can also choose to be given the title of "Duchess of .........", just like Camilla Parker Bowles refused the "Princess of Wales" and went for "Duchess of Cornwall" instead.

Of course this is IF Queen Elizabeth decides to give her a title, which she most likely will of course. At the end of the day no one f**ks with Lizzy B)

^^I know. The title is really involved.

^Squizree beat me to it!! Ha, I have to look it up but Squizree knows it off by heart <3

Here is a little article from newsfeed.time.com written a while ago.

As of this morning, Kate Middleton, now Prince William's fiancée, is a queen-in-waiting. But what will her titles be before Prince William takes the throne?
The world of the British monarchy is complex. Filled with long-standing traditions and regulations, navigating the roles of the Windsor family is like reading a book of chess instructions. He's the abridged version of Kate Middleton's future of royal stylings:
Though the only title Middleton will be legally entitled to is that of her husband, it will be for the Queen to decide who gets what. Upon marriage, Middleton would become Her Royal Highness Princess William of Wales, though the media would shorten her title to Princess Catherine, a title legally reserved for princesses of birth.
(More on NewsFeed: Prince William And Kate Middleton Announce Their Engagement)
Normally upon marriage, royal men receive a title as a gift from the current monarch. For William, it's expected that he'll become a Duke. According to The Daily Mirror, possible titles include the Duke of Clarence, Duke of Cambridge, Duke of Connaught or the Duke of Sussex. Upon his Dukedom, William's wife would become a Duchess, unless of course William doesn't accept the title, which would leave the couple's titles as Prince and Princess William.
If Prince Charles takes the throne as king, William would be bumped up to the title of Prince of Wales, making Middleton the Princess of Wales, a title that now belongs to Camilla Bowles, who has never used it because of the sensitivity to her involvement in the divorce of Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Instead, she uses the title Duchess of Cornwall, which would also pass to Middleton if Prince Charles were to become king. It's widely hinted that Camilla would then take the title of Princess Consort, instead of Queen, to avoid public scrutiny. Still, Charles may choose to pass on the throne entirely, and let it pass directly to William if the Queen's current reign carries on for many more years – as it could.
When Prince William does become king, Middleton would become the Queen Consort – “Consort” being the official title of the reigning monarch's spouse – and would be known as Queen Catherine, though she would not be line to rule if anything happened to her husband. Instead, the throne would pass directly to one of her children, likely the oldest male, or to Prince Harry, William's younger brother.

I'm tired of arguing the same point over and over again.

Kate might be the sweetest girl ever, but being a princess is a job not a popularity contest so I really don't care about her personality nor do I need to know her personally.

It's easy enough for her to say she doesn't care about what people think about her, but then I question if she even know what being a princess in a modern society is about?

Truth is, dear Kate, monarchies cost the citizens a good chunk of money so if you can't be a good example and do your job well - that is to represent your country in a good manner, there really is no use for you.

Celebrity gossip aside, people in this thread don't say these things about her because we have an inherent hatred for her. We have stated very legitimate reasons, people can question how credible these reasons are, sure. But since Kate can't be bothered to actually clarify what she's been doing for so many years, it's hard to blame people for just believing what they have seen through pictures and words. Furthermore, we have actually given examples of CPs who do their job well. How does Kate compare to CP Mette Marit who genuinely comes from a less than ideal past and had to overcome it to win the public's love? Or CP Letizia who was a modern career woman? Or Queen Rania who fights for worthy causes?

But since Kate can't be bothered to actually clarify what she's been doing for so many years, it's hard to blame people for just believing what they have seen through pictures and words.

So, what? Should she write a column in a weekly magazine like Peter Andre or Kerry Katona? To provide a rebuttal to all the hundreds of negative accusations that are constantly being made? If she did that she would never have the time to do her job of Princess (-in-waiting, currently) very well would she? And though you deem it so important, maybe give "Dear Kate" an opportunity to do the job of Princess before you cite her as bad at it and a waste of tax payers money?

I very much doubt that she alone has cost the taxpayers anything to this point, in comparison to the many people who will probably come to see her and William, thus providing valuable economic activity in the economy during these times of wicked recession. :ninja:

she looks pretty (minus the outfit) in the first one in #753 and I like the outfit with the belt at the waist and the blazer. But she's wearing those horrible grandma shoes she wore with the DVF dress. She really has terrible taste in footwear

You clearly missed my entire point. I said if she doesn't feel the public's opinion matters than she doesn't understand the idea of being a Princess in the modern society. Because it's the public's goodwill which allows for her title and money. Get that?

She does not need to write weekly columns. She could just tell people what she has been doing, but then again, public opinion apparently does not matter to her. Of course, if there really is no good explanation... :innocent: Then I understand why she's so quiet about it.

True, her wedding to William will generate some economic activity... for a while. But that could be said for any girl, he marries, couldn't it? But what about the long-term effect? Because tax-payers don't get to choose which periods they want to pay to the royal family, you know. Needless to say, I agree that monarchies also generate economic value. But that's sort of the point in this entire discussion, will she benefit the British society more than what they pay her? (Loved that you tried to use the temporary economic activity generated from their wedding as justification when it's indirectly a public expense. Because the money couldn't have been invested in any other way with similar or better payoff ;)).

I've never stated that she has done her Princess job badly - yet, because she hasn't done a single thing so far beyond planning her wedding! I've criticised what she's done with her life so far, because it's an indicator of a very lazy person. And this is criticism for any person, except I have no right to judge what other people do with their lives. Kate is different. She wanted to be a Princess, well, that also mean being judged for everything you do and have done. I've asked if anyone thinks she can compare to the good examples, cited as good role models. I'm not even aiming at only Kate, but also mentioned poor examples from my own country! So please spare me for the hyperbole about "people" trying to crucify her for the sake of it, and are hanging on to every word from bad articles because we just needed the justification .

^ Yes- I think she is very attractive and I like to see the different things she wears; I have pretty much no interest in all the catty things about her background and so on...I'm sure there are dozens of places that deal with all of that exclusively! ;)

I've always had the feeling that Kate would perhaps like to experiment more with fashion but is extremely restricted by the conservative boundaries of royalty.

^ Yes- and her skirts are way too long nowadays...(I miss her miniskirts)!

^ Yeah. She wore miniskirts well. She's still young and has a great figure, I hope she builds enough courage to wear more daring clothes.
Poor Kate, I think after what happened with Diana, it's like the entire monarchy is just pressing her to be boring.

I don't really agree that Kate's outfits are a result of her wanting not to offend the royal/conservative image. That all red outfit with the black turtle neck she wore recently...looking at it again it actually looks like a costume and kind of ostentatious. If she wanted to blend in and look 'proper' she wouldn't have opted for a bright red two piece. Zara Philips has managed not to dress well beyond her years and withough being a frump and she's been in the spotlight for years, no one has ever raised a brow at her. I feel like people use that as an excuse for her horrible dress sense sometimes.
