I think the portrait doesn't reflect how beautiful she is. Indeed looks older.
He made something wrong with her eyes. Like making unnecesary wrinkles.
The exprension is her, but she looks way more beautiful when she smiles.

I guess as is a royal portrait she can't look like she is having fun

Don't like the portrait either, everything about it makes her look older than she is. From the blouse to the lines around her eyes and the creases around her mouth. The nose isn't right either, there is something off about it. I don't think it's a very good painting at all. I think it could have been really lovely for her first one but this was not the way to go about it. I do like the fact though that she wore some substantial earrings. That's the only thing in this portrait that I like.

The technique of this painting is brilliant, just the likeness to Kate is far of. Which is sad, it could've been such a nice portrait. If only all these odd wrinkels around the eyes and mouth were gone and she was actually smiling.

Look for the actual video of painter giving great insight, comparing photo& painting

I watched attentively the video clip where the "snap" (of much poorer quality btw) below was taken from and there you will see the painting seems a lot nicer and flattering in my opinion. It is viewable on the msn page/news etc.

In the video, juxtaposed next to the painting are the photograph of Kate and a few close ups he made of her face and hair to paint the face and expressions lines just right, every single detail is there in both painting & real photo, he only altered some colours so the blouse is matched by earrings and her eyes etc.
He explains it all much better than I, and although it may not be to every one's taste as art goes, it truly looks just like the photograph of Kate that he took and she gave green light to.
Now if you don't like Kate's photograph that is another problem altogether.

She looks older, not pretty, and without expression. She is always smiling and very beautiful. This doesnt represent her at all........

She wanted a 'naturalistic' photo where she was smiling. She's allowed to look happy... As one critic noted, it looks more like she's smug.

My favourite comment on the painting is that it looks like 'something from the Twilight Franchise.'

I am not obsessed with her burgundy dress but it looks lovely on her. She should wear this colour more often. Also, she looks absolutely radiant! She looks really good after the news of her pregnancy.

The more I look at her portrait, the more I hate it. The smug expression looks scary and she looks really old in it. I think it's possible that she secretly hates it.

it's impossible for her to hate that portrait she allowed to make it like that. to be honest i like that portrait for some reason but i would like to see more color on her face on that portrait to make her look less like a ghost. And totally love her burgundy dress. red color fits her so well.

I won't comment on the portrait--I think she deserved a better one. I think the dress se wore to the unveiling is a nice look for her.
