Christian Dior F/W 09.10 Paris

Didn't he channel this same theme for his own fall collection a few seasons ago? This is just another recycled collection.... Disappointing. I can't even fathom how people can say he's a genius anymore.

I get such a Gloria Swanson in Sunset Blvd vibe, one of those extremly extravagant woman that used to have almost nonexistent eyebrows, and wore silk turbans with long nails and dark lipstick and finger curled hair. Sort of like flappers..but better! I can't think of what their called, or if there is even a name for them, but If anybody understands me let me know! Maybe the Poiret woman?

I've been reading some people talking above about Balmain.. C'mon its was great for one season and only half dozen of fashion slaves can wear it, and that shoulder thing its done over and over and already tacky IMO , all this 80's revival won't go nowhere, one season and people will be realizing it is uber over.

Dior is DIOR for decades and for a reason.. I can see real women with real $$$$ wearing it, incredible craftsmanship, stunning fabric choices, cut & colours, classics! once again Bravo Galliano!

Topshopers & H&Mers sorry this isn't for you anyway

i'm just happy to see colors (too much black on the runways for my liking) and that there's no Vermeer.

better than the previous ones, yes, and also very Galliano. i think the era of the "over the top" Galliano is over.

dior really needs fresh air ........
galliano is deep down in the fashion abyss ... and dior is suffocating ...
really !

that's bad !

i don't know who talked about poiret ... but oh yeah that were the years ... the magnifique years of Dior ... i still see this show with models climbing down a palace stair wearing Poiret inspired looks ... oh geez ... that was GallianoxDior ...

Agree 100%

His shows used to be exciting. Since Fall 2007, I haven't been impressed by any of his shows.

Theres something missing from his recent collections. The collection's aren't bad by any means; just lacking in something.

I like it merely because no glitter pants were involved.
But even though this is neither something to go crazy about nor something to start to cry over, it is, big make-up or not, a step away from the clowny recent collections for Dior by Galliano. With horror we think back to last years Fall collection and a sigh of relief escapes our throats.
Give him another season. I know we're waiting for a long time now, but give him another season. He can do it. Pull yourself together, John. I'm here to hold your hand!

PS: And don't you ever put the most hideous look of your collection on Coco again, or you be sure I return my Lady Dior handbag.

Galliano should really tone down the looks for Dior.

I'm sick of the ****** make-up every season and the excessive over-the-top treatment,
it just makes everything looks the same every season.

And for times like this, I got a feeling consumers wouldnt go extravagant and loud, they
want to go for classic and timeless. It's really time for Galliano to revisit the Dior roots
and basics, like most of the designers did this season and he will do just fine :flower:

^ He's been examining Dior's roots for almost 2 years now, and in those two years his work has been in decline, so I doubt if sticking to traditional Dior (which of all the great couture houses is so firmly associated with a very specific time that no longer exists) is the answer. If anything the collections look the same not because of the dramatic makeup but because the clothes aren't changing.

Passion. That's the only thing I've been able to come up with. I haven't sensed it in one of his collections since the S/S 07 couture collection. The drive to do something new, to push himself just seems gone. :(

It's funny that people refer back to past seasons (2006, 2007) or the Stephen Robinson era as wonderful and amazing, b/c when those collections came out, people were ALSO complaining then that Galliano had lost his spark, the collections were boring and hideous, etc.

The makeup and hair as usual is incredible..
Much better than last season.

Fashion has no memory dear...

You just nailed it :flower:

Very Poiret inspired, and I usually like it when Galliano reinterprets him, but this collection is not good enough. There are some beautiful coats, though the print should be out of them. Anyway the whole collection is not good, at all.

Galliano is a genius and he's fashion history, but, what's happening to him lately?

I would say Bernald Arnault, but i have realised that the HC was also bad.

I swear to god a baby pony and a baby lamb will die somewhere if John Galliano revisited Dior classics/give yet another reinterpretation of the super tired and super old "New Look" for the 57347895654654654646th time.

I think the evening dresses are really stunning, that has to be said. This is a step up from his previous 4 or 5 RTW collections from the house, mainly because it took a step away from the couture collection that preceded this show. I count three full on barsuit interpretations here...And as has been said, he needs to stick to less colors, but this time it's indeed not those eye-hurting pastels again...it's a little darker in hue. And it seems he finally got Anna Karenina out of his system which we have been seeing in his last 300 Pre-Fall collections.

That said, it's good, but it's not amazing. For the exact reasons that have mentioned above: the passion is still lost. Please, find it back...please. I don't have much to say anymore about this because I believe we've all said it a million times already since 2005...
