Christian Dior F/W 2006.07 Paris

Sometimes I think that the whole idea of John Galliano being a good designer is a myth...like he designs Dior, so he must be a good designer! Right? Right!

Geez, From reading all the respones some of you guys need to lightin up a bit. I mean all designers are human and do run out of ideas most of the time. I mean come on people!! what do you guys think John G. is a machine and can pump out a perfect collection all the time I mean COME ON!!! I think people are so harsh because people make Dior out to so much out of what it is. I really hope for a better season though.

:mowhawk: so rock on for now until next season!!!!!

PARIS, February 28, 2006 – Kerrang! The Christian Dior woman has turned into a goth-metal rock chick, all black bandana, major shades, fur-sprouting distressed leathers and stompin’ medieval biker boots. With Pat Benatar and Bon Jovi on the soundtrack, and a front row that included Kate Hudson and her Black Crowes hubby Chris Robinson, John Galliano turned the ultra-establishment Grand Palais de Paris into a fashion-rock stadium for the night. (Well, twenty minutes of it).

For anyone with an eye for recent history, this was Galliano up to familiar tricks. The identically wigged, long-haired rocker women on the runway were—stylistically at least—slightly more contemporary sisters to the blood-spattered nineteenth-century zealots who appeared in Dior’s French Revolutionary haute couture show for spring. This fall collection made the trickle-down effect from fantasy to nuts-and-bolts ready-to-wear more understandable than in seasons past. Galliano’s voluminous, floor-sweeping coats with huge, shaggy goat-hair tufts escaping from their seams, and his neat jackets, decorated with vertical strips of fur, will translate into plenty of sellable pieces for the boutiques of the world to carry.

More surprisingly, but just as cleverly, Galliano also slipped in references to Christian Dior’s 1947 New Look jacket—here in a peplumed shape, or covered with tulle in the front. Those suits, with their artfully tattered and embroidered surfaces and second-skin pencil skirts, have a certain delicacy that is guaranteed to register with the more hyper-feminine Dior customer Galliano knows so well. Oddly enough, they also made a connection with the eighties power suit; a look that is preoccupying the young—and the not-so-young—on planet fashion this season.

Upon further inspection. I love it. I dont think Ive ever like a Dior collection more. I love everything, partly cause everything is outerwear, which is very hard to f*ck-up. I didnt like a few dresses, but most were stunning. It's a good and very, very wearable collection. I see dollar signs for Dior (how come when fall rolls around John always cranks out a selling collection).

Yes, the accessories are absolutely grotesque (all the shoes are horrid and the bags too). But he showed sunglasses, which he normally does S/S but didnt have, they're nothing new, just the all-black Overshine and the Airspeed (or something similar).

After looking at the whole collection, I still dont really like it that much. I do like how he dressed up the models as him though.

The shoes would be nice, except for these awful, horrible heels

John's become a lot of hype, and not so much substance...the collection just looks tired, as does he...Still, I need further inspections to be able to declare my divorce to Dior:lol: until he gets his groove back

I seriously thought I was seeing clones of Galliano when I saw the pictures of the models with light-colored wigs

And I also demand pictures of Galliano vs. the glass wall!!

What I get from looking at this collection is a sense of "stale"... What he has been doing, used to be the "fresh" thing, but he's stuck there... Everytime I look at his show I'm desperate to get a new feeling but I don't.... he's getting more boring by the season... Someone has to tell him, this is not good enough anymore.... fashion has moved on.... (Thank God)

It is not as well as I expected. I am not sure about the Haute Couture SS06 influence. I think it is too much. It is totally like a wearable version of the Haute Couture SS06. Also, it reminds me Galliano Homme FW 06 and Number (N)ine SS06.
Despite the concept, the clothes are fantastic. The coats, suits, shoes, bags and evening dresses are seductive. It definitely is a commercial collection. Every piece is wearable. It is gonna sell well. That's the thing John is doing now even in the future. The wild and crazy ready to wear will be no more.

I really liked this collection, there were a lot of pieces in there that I can see being worn and, if I were a woman, I'd love to wear. I don't love the whole look of it, but the majority of the clothes are cool. While I don't think it's his best collection, I certainly don't find it stale or horrible...actually, this is kind of a new mood for Dior, definitly not territory Galliano has covered before with the whole goth-rock vibe.

I'm sorry but I just can't praise this on any level. I think it's incredibly egotistical and dare I say disrespectful to do a whimsicial collection like this for a major Paris fashion house like Dior. The clothes don't hold up, and if indeed accessories are one of the major draws of Dior then they're awful as well. (Those hideous diamante buckle belts....eurgh!) I admire his sense of voyeurism but I just feel it's reaching heights of ridicule now.

This is very ugly collection, perhaps galliano is having a dry season? The collection is all about Galliano and only Galliano. I don't see here any resembelance to any orig. Dior collections, there's no chic, there's no elegance there's no soul in this one. Maybe it was his intention to create specifically this kind of collection or maybe...just maybe he was using too many drugs this time. And walking into a see-through wall? pffft Shouldn't there be a alarm clock ringing in Arnault's head, perhaps it's time to change Dior's creative director? mmm :D
I finished a week ago book about Galliano by Colin Mcdowell, and I have to say that Dior 1997-1998 collections were simply stunning. I liked the fact that Galliano actually spend weeks and weeks in that little Dior's archive, going through & studying mr. Dior's creations.

why all the models look like vampirellas:blink: ??actually i dont like Galliano's that freaky style :yuk: so this dior collection is not definitely one of my favorites:innocent: :innocent:
