Christian Dior Haute Couture F/W 09.10 Paris

The best piece is the third from last dress where the clips hold up the dress.
That's the only piece that looks like it's had some imagination put into it.

:D I think that's the strongest in the collection too. Natasha's dress looks like it could've came from the F/W 08/09 collection.

i got enough of that wretched New Look. it was nice during the japanese themed collection, but we saw that over the past years.

ENOUGH!
I agree with this.

the SHOES are super super similar to the s/s 04 d'trick collection.....

Deja vu. Nevertheless, some nice pieces. I want something revolutionary from him. I know he can do it!

i dont like it... well, the shoes i do.
thanxxxx for all pix. xxxxx

I think the the black corset and off-white skirt is STUNNING!
The rest is just bleh

I looove the cropped jacket looks with the shorts (?). This collection was a success to me. B)

Ahem... Galliano's done lingerie, nude colors, and lurid colors before, but last time he did it, it was at least interesting. This time the whole collection is lacking some class.

And does anyone else get a distinctly (Fassbinder's) 'Lola' vibe from this?

while i, too, feel this is a rehash of the fall 2005 couture presentation celebrating christian dior's centennial, i cannot believe that everyone has missed the quite obvious pop cultural reference to lady gaga and her recent spate of pantless performances. i love how galliano has outsmarted himself yet again -- true creative genius that he is -- they want him to only show dior classics? he'll show them without the skirts and without the jackets and let his rebellion shine through with the most traditional and couture pieces this house could possibly do.

while the old ladies of dior will continue to buy up these suits and gowns, the young set can take on this look directly. this is how lady gaga should dress for the grammys. and yes, i'd have loved another egyption extravaganza, or an austrian fantasy, or chinoserie deluxe, this proves he's still got that in him if only he can weather this financial turbulnce.

Gorgeous. Definitely not anything I would want to wear, personally. But to look at it's STUNNING.
The black and white outfits remind me of Barbie circa 1950! Very delicate and feminine.

At first I didn't read the text in this post and I thought the shoes were part of the same collection. Couldn't he think of something better?

You guys do realize that Dior has a certain aesthetic that they have to stick to because it's what sells and what the Dior customer wants, meaning many of the collections will be similar, there are patterns all the time with Dior collections, why is this shocking?

Even houses like Chanel get rehashed because they need to appeal to that customer. Whereas houses like Prada are solely based on creativity and flamboyance, so they can get away with being different, but even Prada rehashes sometimes.

But this is all just the way I see it.

well the customer argument isn't really valuable in Couture World.
I think you count something like +/- 200-300 Couture customers around the world.

Couture is supposedly something of a laboratory (and a living campain) .... So they needn't to appeal to people ...

But you may be right ... Maybe more and more customers want some New Look style ... I don't know. I know none Couture customer.

also, we have to remember the game of the couture. these -- what? -- fifteen houses have to fight over the one hundred and fifty couture customers IN THE WORLD where as the pradas, guccis, and others can fight over the millions of upwardly mobile bourgeoisie who clamor for their ready to wear.

WOW this is so kitsch, no matter how I look at it! The combination of the set, the make-up, the hair and the collection = TACKY.

Seriously guys, take away the 'Dior' label, and this is absolute trash. Who in their right mind would put looks such as these on a haute couture runway??

Because remaking the same collection over and over isn't the same as sticking to an aesthetic, and because Dior used to fall into the same category as Prada, pushing fashion forward while managing to spin off the creative stuff into salable products.

I mean can you honestly say that any of these recent Dior collections are even remotely distinct?

it's clearly not galliano's doing however. i mean, he's bursting with creativity at his own shows -- for men and women -- and even this showing of hackneyed dior classics remains quite creative given his limitations.

now, why have they limited him in such a way? that's a good question....
