Christian Dior Haute Couture S/S 2015 Paris

My problem with this collection is that it has too many ideas that don't necessarily work well together. There are several looks I did not like at all. At the same time, big part of this collection was gorgeous with some beautiful cuts and silhouettes especially towards the end. I also really liked the shoes. However, it feels like Raf is still lacking something when it comes to creating a couture dream. It's not that the clothes aren't good but there's something missing. Sometimes I feel like he's trying so hard to be modern and ends up with something forced and quite vapid. Contemporary designs should come as a natural evolution, not a forced push, otherwise fashion feels empty.

Yes I agree with you. At the same time there is a level of tacky in this collection. It's like Come on this is supposed to be Haute Couture, not Haute Couture Tacky. He needs to be dropped from the house. It feels like the company is trying very hard to make a point that they do not need Galliano and are willing to push this garbage on the customer.

I can see what you mean in some of the looks honestly don't look expensive - that video illustrates it perfectly, that dress looks cheap.

When i fell in love with fashion it was because I fell in love with Dior but now Dior is like a lover without passion.

You can see this video of the making of of a gown in Galliano days, the passion, the beauty and the end result is superb. I understand that Raf is not a magician but we can use his Dior designs to get ideas and colors to decorate our home wallls it would give a more practical sense to his work.

It's crazy to believe how Dior's design has considerably declined under Raf over these last past seasons. To be honest, I followed his evolution with a very open mind starting by his first collection which was kind of, if not largely minimalist -; a fact that could have been understandable for his first try and since then complete blank. I wasn't Galliano's biggest fan but it's really impossible to not recognize that his work >>>>. This collection is a sad "fourre-tout".

I just can't get into Dior under Raf, I've tried, tried and tried but he disappoints me every time

Raf is a technical dressmaker, his aesthetics tend to be more severe and cold than rich, sweet romanticism... There are just too many things happening here...whilst I think the black vertically striped jumpsuit with the purple suit look hideous, I can imagine it on people like Blake Lively, or Rihanna or J Lawrence with a pulled back ponytail and totally look expensive in it ( different shoes please).
So it's not all that bad.

I don't really think this collection is bad, but I don't think it's great either.

To me, Raf's Dior is what a newcomer to HC would be into..Haute Couture 101. You'd buy his Dior first; then, once you become really acquainted and savvy w/ HC, you'd move on to, you know, something BETTER, like Chanel & Gaultier.

But, that's just my imagination. Why don't we ask an actual HC client what she thinks?

According to the style.com review, Raf thinks to the meaning of dior is too "lady" which is not his taste and he wants to change that, it seems like he's slowly changing the brand's entire DNA until it's completely new.
Also, the way those skirts are shaped is very odd and unflattering. And most of this collection screams prada. It's not as bad as his previous offerings though. The details still look kind of cheap and average

In the video, they're using a sewing machine (min. 0.50) Is that right for a couture dress? :rolleye: Anyway, I'm sure is hard work, but not at the level of Chanel or other couture houses.

Sewing machines are common in haute couture. Hand sewing in the atelier is usually only done for finishing seams and specialized constructions, etc.

First time since his initial couture show I actually don't hate it. I could probably even like if it wasn't for Dior, because I just don't see how it fits the house at all.
And I am just so confused by everything he has made. His work at Jil was so great. And that is a house famous for its cuts and tailoring. And just looking at the quality of the things he is producing at dior is just so confusing to me.

This...
Why not hire someone who actually liked the Dior aesthetic?

I feel like he is too ambitious and confident about what he is capable of. His taste for using color is just horrible and off-putting to most of people. I don't hate some of his designs, I just hate his words sometime.

He's struggled with color since he started at Dior. I feel like he's trying to take inspiration from Prada in terms of color juxtopositon but he's failing at it. He needs to focus more on cut and quality rather than color.

I slightly liked his Autumn/Winter 2014/15 Haute Couture collection although not especially, but the quality of this one is an insult to Dior. I think they should hire someone like Ralph Rucci, he's not Galliano but he's definitely better than Simons.
