I love this collection... thiefery and all.

its such a total expansion of this 'lady-like' elegance thing going on now. I mean whats more ladylike than a queen? or barbie?

But still. I love the nude bustiers, I think it adds a shock to the system. I would expect their to be either a top, or none at all. But when there is a fabric close to the skin color in the naughty places it forces us to look. esp since we arent supposed to.

I'm in with the purple. I really do feel that purple is going to be a hot color in the next year.

yeah. I am startiing to dislike the collection after knowing how much a disaster the show was. I mean. If the girls are suffocating and throwing up you can't really congratulate that. As wonderful the clothes are John looses mega points for this collection.

Just for trivia, Christian Dior has a long tradition of suffocating their models...I wrote my research paper this spring for English on Dior's debut collection and the New Look movement, and during his first show one of his models fainted, and as he made a grab for her he was left holding nothing but a pair of "falsies," which are I guess what they used back in the day to pad the boobs! Just a fun fact for you all

I love this collection. It's beautiful art and looking at the colors, the textures, the designs, the sheer opulence of it all makes my heart beat quicker and I remember why I love fashion in the first place! His is the only couture collection that has inspired 19 pages of our comments and counting, and that alone makes me think that he accomplished what he wanted.

Softgrey, you sound like you have a really interesting job!! Can you post more about how you got into it and generally what you do since I am interested in being a fashion stylist myself but am not really sure where to get started after college. This is probably not the appropriate thread for that discussion though!

These models that they use now are not experienced to the constricting ensembles, and items. Just look at all the floaty items from Lanvin, Chanel, Prada, etc. that are modelled.

The most constricting it seems to get these days are at Gucci, YSL, and perhaps Gaultier.

But then notice that Gaultier used Nadja Auermann for the Hermes show.

The 80's supermodels, Cindy Crawford, Nadja Auermann, Linda E, Eva H, etc, would be able to handle these ordeals. A look at what Thierry Mugler, and Claude Montana had produced would suffice. Or classic Versace.

The Review: Christian Dior Haute Couture F/W 2004 by John Galliano.

An utterly ridiculous collection, lacking the vision of a real couturier.

I mean, basically, it's the Egyptian couture collection but the 'Egyptian' being replaced by Vienna. I mean all he did was use the details and silhouettes of the Egyptian collection and place the 'Princesses of Vienna' theme. I did not like his fur detailing, either. It looks so cheap and removes the elegance in some pieces. I also thought his columns are really tired NOW. He ripped off those from his own S/S '04 couture collection.

To summarize, it is a bad collection because John did not get into the REAL elegance and glamour of the princesses of Vienna.

But he did get their ceilings.

i liked it too... it made me think of cinderella... i was like wow!! Cinderella dresses lol... maybe he wanted to created a level of upset at the same time have people love the collection for being unique???? i mean the princess of Vienna - Cinderella??? maybe not the same story lines but the ball?? i mean if ur going to high class ball and want to make urself look like a princess i would say some of these gowns would help u accomplish that...

coco chanel did say "you know you've accomplished something in fashion when you've created a level of upset"?? i duno.. it will be remembered for the debatable reason of whether it was good or not?? it borders between a love - hate

Yes I agree.....the clothes were just so beautiful, every single one of them, but the tightness of the corsets, the gigantic shoes and probably the nude bustiers too kinda made the whole collection a big bit too much....that's what makes the debates I guess...

I love it too darling, but don't get sad that others don't we all have our own opinions and we can't love everything, not everyone is always going to love what someone else loves.

I agree that Galliano should have picked models with experience with tight lacing, but to be honest to me the corsets don't look all that tight laced really...maybe it's just me, i don't know.

But here in Poland every tv station gave 30 sec of Dior's show. And I am sure that next day Addict sells much more :-)

So HC is for Paris, for the rest of the world, it's a pure publicity :-)
