Designer & Fashion Insiders Behavior (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

(These petty squabbles that critics have with designers is so mean girls pettiness. Whether it’s Cathy trolling Hedi to get a rise out of him, or this… Grow up: Fashion isn’t really that important, and neither are designers nor their critics. Don’t stoop to the level of rapper beefs. LOL @ the day when Hedi breaks and takes a hit out on Cathy…)

But that's what makes the drama and pettiness so delicious, when it's good!!

I'm going to be blunt, Vanessa acted like a clown this season and it was cowardly to pick on Jason Wu where she wouldn't have dared at a bigger brand's show. I also think her wording re: the kpop stars/Asian influencers (by which I think she meant people actually based in the countries in question) was very poorly done - yes, every brand has one now, no, you don't have to sound quite so dismissive and borderline racist about it given the economic and cultural force they've become, and the actual influence they wield. The print media would also do well to learn the names of the individual celebrities in the front rows, given that's part of the news they're reporting - last season, I saw a review at the Times (UK one, not NYT) misidentify a Korean actor front row at Ralph Lauren as an "influencer", which in the age of information and google being in everyone's pockets, is inexcusable.

pic for in case the link doesn't work

but also the influencer crowd is being disingenuous in conflating Vanessa's racist comment with the unfavourable comment on "insider information vs influencer information", treating it as a personal attack on them (influencers, not just Asian ones) and getting mad every single time they are criticised at all for their role in the state of fashion now - as if we don't all know exactly what that was meant to be i.e. referring to the absolute circus that is influencer culture now, from the head-to-toe very obviously sponsored "cheerleading" looks that "street style" has turned into, to the fact that most of them are just advertising channels and would never dare to criticise a big brand for anything (I have respect for Susie's track record in that regard - she wasn't afraid to criticise Chanel for using protest imagery frivolously for a show back in 2014, and has correctly called out racism in the fashion establishment previously too and not just for pile-on value).

(But the fact that print media i.e. magazines, has long been corrupted into acting like an advertising channel, doesn't mean influencers should above criticism with the "see, magazine editors do it too!" logic, given the "magazines are just 'advertorial' now" complaints have been widespread anywhere that fashion was actually discussed since the very early days of TFS and even before that, only fashion wasn't the mass entertainment channel it is now. I can see both sides of it - early fashion bloggers like Susie and Bryan started off as outsiders but now are as much part of the fashion establishment as critics like Vanessa, I get what Susie meant by feeling locked-out of the industry in her younger days and channelling her passion into a blog rather than internships, and also that perhaps the influencing/paid channel status was inevitable given the impossibility of time and resource commitments for long-term independent blogging, but the reactions here do speak to how the industry has changed and how poorly criticism - even the fair kind - is received by anyone now, whether they're designers, influencers, etc. But I don't think any of them, as they stand now, are capable of or want to reflect on why influencers are seen as lacking credibility or seen poorly - you can't have your "I am a serious marketing channel and professional mouthpiece for brands" cake and eat "poor me I'm just an individual who started off in my bedroom with a website that I've now abandoned to do full-time sponsored posts and any criticism is just jealous haters" it too. )

that's so humiliating, she told them what size she was, if it wasn't going to work, they should have told her before making her try on a dress that was a size or two too small.

This, despite being wrong, is very common in several brands and it's good that she insisted on having them pay her for the lost time.

I wanted other more popular models to share her story to get more negative buzz for this low-end brand!

lol at this guy Michael Costello in the comments "don't let this bad experience get your spirits down!".. when he basically did it worse to Leona Lewis , also, unrelated but in the aftermath of that, did his PR team ask tFS to remove traces of that 'negative press'? I can't seem to find that discussion (in this thread) anymore.

Anyway, a Philip Plein show.. so random haha thought he was a NYFW opening in act in like 2016...

It’s unanimous that Phillip Plein has come to epitomize the brand and imagery of uber-douchebaggery. It’s all too easy at this point because who’s not going to get the pitchfork and torches ready for him???

But there’s also a sense of arrogance and entitlement with her rant: The way that she tells the story that she’s a model for 12 years w/1million followers; namedropping Victoria’s Secret etc etc. And of course whenever that hot topic of size comes up, no doubt the mob will damn anyone that dares to mistreat a women who’s bigger (not that a size 4 is big. All the OG Supers were a size 6) in favour of women with smaller sizes (those 0s/2s must be anorexic/diseased/unhealthy etc etc). You know, having been in the industry for 12 years, she really should know by now that informing a team she’s a specific size doesn’t mean anything until they see her in person. They are going to assume they can squeeze her into a smaller size. And being cut from a show isn’t uncommon: I’ve worked with nobodies that have cut entire groups of models on the day of fitting just simply because the designers changed their minds. It’s a different story if they were rude/inappropriate/abusive, but even the way that she tells it— complete with the insertions of blah blah blahs, it’s her that comes off impatient/arrogant/entitled— and she has every right to feel so of course: Just don’t go on SM to rant about it. But of course she has to rant of such grievances on SM: More likes/followers LOL

BTW, LOL @Phillip Plein for being 2hrs late for the fitting. Why isn’t that a surprise at all...??? …He likely rode in on a Harley too, just like he did at his recent show… But, this is all I see:

^ that's the healthy 0-2! it doesn't look like it but it is. I remember this one member here who was like 'you can enjoy your donuts, meanwhile I enjoy fitting into a size S' and it actually made me sad that he has been cursed with the type of genetics you have to fight this hard to the point that even a donut exiles you from your own closet :grimacing: ..

Now, broken record here, but I really want to know what the basis for that bit of censorship is if this is technically just gossip, opinion from online strangers based on a scandal that was well-documented through 'official sources' (verified accounts and legit media sources, not 'my friend who's a buyer and knows someone overheard this..' bs)... is it a 'right to be forgotten' request maybe? didn't Buffaloed provide a link where we could see them? (outside of tFS). @Armani please chime in for this mystery!

I checked this thread to see what actions have been taken on it (since migrating to Xenforo), and I didn't find anything on the situation (assuming you're referring to Costello) - honestly, I think the most probable answer to your question to have been a portion of this thread not merging... or perhaps successfully merging... with this one, or the actions on the posts having been made before the Xenforo switch. Deleted posts also pop up on my end when searching threads and nothing apart from your post displayed when I looked up Costello's name. I fear the mystery remains :eyes:

^ No results for 'Leona' either. This happened in June 2021, does that match the Xenforo migration?

I just now remembered that the mention of suicide was involved in Costello's response and if my memory is not completely off, that he responded on ig to something that was mentioned here, so he was keeping an eye on the discussion. I went to see tFS' Terms and Conditions and I think I may have figured this one out (a direct request/legal threat + hard delete?). Maybe. It's a bit confusing (as these 'conditions' always are) because 'risk of physical/mental injury and/or death' is a violation but at the same time, Evolve assumes 'no liability for any User Content [aka. a post]'. Either way, I think people abuse some of these protection laws, they were for copyrighted content, victims of revenge p*rn.. not to sweep under the rug unprofessional conduct that isn't even illegal, just unfortunate and you got exposed .. instead of censoring strangers online, just govern yourself next time.

That indeed does! Perhaps a hard delete was done, but even then, I'd still see it being deleted in the log. I have absolutely no clue what happened to the messages, but I can't see them, no matter where I look :ninjas::ninjas::ninjas: Nonetheless, I see your point. A bit of a tricky situation, given the possible mention - yet I wish I could at the very least locate them to see what exactly was written & come to my own judgment from there. If a request was made, chances are I deleted them... yet nothing's popping up there, either.

Law Roach out ? I don't know what happened but it's quite surprising, he is a rising star so why now ? I'm wondering what happened but its must have been some drama involve base on his caption.
I guess that's why he probably accepted that Zendaya sign a deal with Louis Vuitton ( most of LV Ambassador wear exclusively Vuitton and that would have restrain his vision and option I guess)

She isn’t officially a Louis Vuitton ambassador yet. She attended the show, is a friend of the house but no formal announcement…

Tbh, I saw that coming. Law obviously wanted and enjoyed fame as much if not more than his clients. And with fame comes expectations…That I guess not everybody is willing to meet.
Stylists are usually behind the scenes. Since Rachel Zoe, no one really tried to break the mold simply because by having everybody set into their position, it works easily.

Here we have someone very open about his ambition and while it seems like he comes with a package with Zendaya, I don’t think all the brands are willing to make an effort for him everywhere.

He is not working with the Dior girl he elevated. It seems to be all politics. And in fashion, the most lowkey of PR have more weight than the most celebrated and IG famous stylist in the world.

I don’t think not having a place at the front row of a fashion show is the reason he wants to retire but it probably hurts his ego. He sees himself as more than a stylist but please believe that the industry will make him remember that it’s what he is.

Maybe he will think that race has a great part in that but it’s really a class thing.

Don't fall for clickbait, guys. It's the equivalent's of 2012's Facebook 'look at me, goodbye, I'm deactivating my account, please beg me to stay' posts (only to be back 2 weeks or 2 hours later).

This man is too starved for attention.. he really thinks being a stylist is that big of a deal that he can pull these stunts for long. You can't.. it's a bogus job to begin with.

lol I wish that was real, but that guy loves fame and attention way too much to retire. He's probably having the time of his life being showered with loving tributes in the comments, all leading up to a heroic comeback very soon.

I can already see the British Vogue cover lines...."Fashion needs me." Law Roach on his triumphant return to fashion.

Ridiculous, the whole thing. Girl, it was just a seat.
