Designer & Fashion Insiders Behavior (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

To some degree, she does owe us an explanation. She is a member of the public eye. One who is praised highly, as well. One who has a lot of influence in this business. If this was Joe Blah Blah posing with Roman, that would suck, but there isn't a need for an explanation because no one knows who Joe is. She's setting a bad example, and telling the world that "Hey, you can be a predator! I'll still vouch for you."

 at Isaac with this shoddy backhanded compliment.

From Isaac Mizrahi's New Gig: Cabaret Performer with Terrible Stage Fright

Do you still pay attention to what the new designers are up to?
No, I don’t really. Occasionally I see something that I like. Mostly I see stuff I don’t like. I think it’s because I’m not young. It’s best done by young people. I mean — sorry, Karl! I’m not wrong. And what’s great about him is that he has young people around him that go, “No. Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes.” And I think one really needs that, and I don’t want to do that. That’s not what I ever did. I never partook in that kind of hard-core fashion thing where things had to be a certain length or had to be heroin chic. I always did stuff that I just liked that pleased me. And for a minute people really enjoyed what I did and then it sort of tapered off a little bit and then it came back. It goes up and down. I did it for a long time.

"And what’s great about him is that he has young people around him.." - palm trees, umbrellas, clouds.

The real news is in the title itself....Cabaret Performer? Really??

I found it comical, not in a snarky way, because hours later Chanel's collection was released and I actually think the only young people involved were the models. The stodgy tweed, 1920s maiden gowns with corsage on the cleavage, and terrible A-line cuts,...it seemed all lifted from the wardrobe of some ageing countess. Karl is only clever to frame his outdated designs in a youth/modern package The actual product is as old as the hills.

Yes despite what you think of the collection, the young people comment doesn’t really make sense as at Chanel he is working with the same people which are Virginie Viard, Pascal Brault and Amanda Harlech...

Maybe he was talking about Fendi...
Where he seems to design with a younger and fresher spirit. But even there apart from Charlotte Stockdale....

I totally disagree when he says that fashion is only good when it’s made by young people. Galliano, Elbaz, Pilati...etc. Are in their 50’s, Ghesquiere is in his late 40’s and they are still 10 times better than some of the young designers.

I don’t know if a comment from a designer that hasn’t been relevant since the mid 90s is that relevant.
It’s fun maybe for entertainement but that’s it ahahaha

Lola, bless!

Don't take his commentary to heart. After all, he is only a 'cabaret performer.'

On the matter of youth, I think that his view of fashion is that it should primarily appeal to the youth. And as such you need to either be young, or very attuned to youth culture in order to succeed. Ever saw a Badgley & Mischka campaign or reference on this forum? That's fine. That's how fashion is set up and will always be.

Ahaha
Yes maybe but then again even when he was at his peak, I don’t think that his designs ever spoke to young people...
When I see Marc Jacobs from that era and even what was happening in Europe with Lang, Jean Colonna...etc, his fashion was very Ladies who lunch. Even compared to Calvin Klein...

I would love to see Badgley & Mishcka here on TFS!
If we can discuss Alexis Manille or Maxim Simoens at Azzarro, I would rather see B&M or Pamela Roland ahaha

I think 10,000 hours = mastery is pretty true, and a designer just starting out doesn't have that. I did the math for myself a few years ago, and I was on my third 10,000 hours doing what I do. It really makes a difference ... and that's certainly part of the reason the designers you named are so good. Yes, they all have genius, but everyone needs to practice, and they've done that too.

So I think Isaac is completely wrong, but hey ... cabaret singer. (Inexpert, I assume ;))

Elaine Welteroth Speaks Out on Instagram About Uber Driver Misconduct

By Amanda Arnold
NEW YORK CITY JULY 3, 2018 3:05 PM

Former Teen Vogue editor-in-chief Elaine Welteroth says her Uber driver unceremoniously kicked her out of his car, far from the drop-off location she typed on the app, and called 911 on her.

The incident, which she video recorded on her phone and uploaded to her Instagram stories, occurred Tuesday morning at the intersection of Park Place and 7th Avenue in Park Slope — nowhere close to the Flatbush address she reportedly requested. According to her account, she was talking to someone on the phone when the driver stopped his car, told her to get out, and claimed that “it’s not his job” to get her to the correct location.

“I said, ‘Are we here? Which way is it,’” she says in the video, in which the driver can be heard talking to someone on the phone. She later reveals that he was allegedly on the phone with the police.

Welteroth then gets out of the car and walks up to the driver’s window, who can be heard telling the cops that Welteroth hit him. Somewhere across the street, a bystander yells, “She did not hit him.” Instead, he was the one who allegedly closed his car door on her, leaving a scrape and bruise on her forearm.

Following the Tuesday morning incident, Welteroth expressed her frustrations over how frequently episodes like this happen, “particularly to black women.”

“Too many of us deal with this kind of mistreatment daily and we just keep it moving,” she wrote. “Because we know we are bigger and stronger than the awful, petty things that happen to us. Because we know that our energy and time are our most valuable commodities. Because we believe in practicing the living mantra: ‘When they go low, we go high.’”

Soon after, Welteroth said she received a call from Uber board member Ariana Huffington, who apologized for the mistreatment and assured Welteroth that the driver was being investigated. In a statement to the Cut, an Uber spokesperson would not explicitly confirm this, instead saying, “We’re reviewing the matter.”

“What’s been detailed has no place on our app,” the spokesperson said.

The Cut has reached out to Welteroth for comment.

Dilara Findikoglu just got exposed at the @diet_prada instagram account. It's getting pretty ugly and she already disabled the comment section on her account.

I never liked her as I always doubted her ethics. I don't think she pays the bands for the use of their logos/merch on her designs and her interviews always came out as extremely desperate when anyone asks her about her "goth" personality.

It's getting pretty heated on the comment section too, with people claiming the exploits her interns by making them work extra hours, verbal abuse and humiliation. If true, this is very serious. Some have come out defending her as a "small new designer" too.

I think this will calm down pretty soon as hyped designers get a free pass way too often but I sure would love to see a couple of articles explaining the limits of internships and such. :flower:

No drama, lol! Just some light fluff to distract through the upgrade gremlins!

Asked & Answered: What Are Your Summer Plans?

A peek at the summer holiday itineraries of Maria Grazia Chiuri, Rick Owens, Stella McCartney, Thom Browne and more.

By WWD Staff on July 20, 2018

Maria Grazia Chiuri: “I’m very lucky because I have a family house in Cilento and also a little apartment in Ponza — so I know that in any case I can go there, and I don’t need to plan anything.”

Stella McCartney: “I’m going to reengage and reconnect with my family. I’ll be going between Europe and America. My ideal holiday destination? Planet Earth? I’m pretty happy anywhere. [My travel plans are] with my family in England picking sweet peas and roses.”

Jonathan Anderson: “I like cold — and hot, so I’m doing two weeks in Norfolk [England] and then Ibiza.”

Thom Browne: “Andrew [Bolton] and I go to Como every August and stay at a hotel on the lake. But I also like being home in New York in the summer.”

Paul Smith: “I have a home in Italy near Lucca, which I’ve owned for over 30 years. That’s what it is for me.”

Marcelo Burlon: “Ibiza, in the North…out of the clubs and all the mess to the north of Ibiza.”

Kate Young: “I’m going to Rome, Tuscany and the coast of Italy at the end of the month. I’m so excited. I’ve never been to Rome. It just sounds so nice and I really want to go to Tuscany; a friend of mine is opening a bed and breakfast there.”

Lazaro Hernandez: “We have a farm up in the Berkshires that we spend a lot of time at. We could spend a whole summer out there — that’s happened. You are in your own space. Friends coming over here and there, kicking them out sometimes. Just being home. That’s for us the most ideal.”

Rick Owens: “I am always on the Lido beach in Venice, where Nijinsky danced and Diaghilev died…”

Tommy Hilfiger: “Dee [Ocleppo] and I spend the summer in Europe on our boat. We really love Italy and Greece, especially Capri and Mykonos.”

Emmy Rossum: “We were just in Jackson Hole and it was heaven. We went whitewater rafting. It’s like Aspen but not fancy, just all the mountains and rivers and clean air. There’s a bar in town called Million Dollar Cowboy Bar where instead of seats, there are cowboy saddles. And you line dance with the local guys because your husband doesn’t know how.”

Emilia Clarke: “Plan number one is sleeping, for a really long time. Plan number two is going to a hot place to sleep again.”

Renzo Rosso: “Every year I take a month off, the whole month of August. I don’t go to the office at all. I always organize the holidays this way: the first 10 days I make a cultural trip, which means discovering places and countries I don’t know, countries where there’s something I can learn to understand their history, habits and tradition. After that I normally spend from 12 to 15 days sailing and the very last days I go to a detox center in order to get fit before going back to work. This year, I’ll first go to North Korea and Mongolia and then I’ll do a boat trip to reach the Greek islands of Symi and Mykonos and then I’ll go to a detox center. ”
Jose Neves: “I’m going to try to spend some time in Comporta, in my home country of Portugal. It’s the Hamptons of Portugal. I’m going to keep it simple.”

Hailey Baldwin: “Just working, honestly. Summer is the time I get to unwind and travel without it being for work and get to go spend time with my family and my friends, so I kind of just plan on doing that.”

Michelle Smith: “I’m designing costumes for a new ballet coming up with Ashley Bouder, the Ashley Bouder Project…hopefully a little vacation in there, too, we’ll see.”

Katie Holmes: “Going to go home to Ohio and Michigan for a big family weekend. We’re going to be on a lake and going boating and swimming and that’s the best.”

Paul Andrew: “I’m planning to be back in Patmos in Greece in August for perhaps three weeks this time.”

Inès de la Fressange: “I have a house in Provence. Now Provence is very trendy because Gucci did their cruise presentation there so I guess now all the American people are going to go there. I’m very French — I do holidays with family, friends, children, dogs — and siestas.”

Sienna Miller: “I’m going back to England and then I’m going to Italy and Spain and France, on holiday. The European jaunt that English people go on.”

Jourdan Dunn: “I’m planning on a trip for my birthday to Grenada and then the rest of the summer I just bought a new house in London, so I want to enjoy it and have barbecues and dinner parties and be in London and enjoy that.”

Bonnie Young: “We are going to Vancouver and Alaska.”

Carly Cushnie: “I’m going back home to London for a little bit and also to Portugal for a little bit as well.”

Rebecca Minkoff: “I’m going to Greece. We’re going on a chartered boat with five people.”
