Designer & Fashion Insiders Behavior (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

Whoa, Yoox Net-a-Porter - what a precedent. One of the largest global luxury e-commerce sites making a real statement; I think more will follow, and possibly some department stores.

I have to say though, I think the fashion community has been quietly hating on Stefano Gabbana for a while and has been sneakily waiting for someone else to get things in motion first. If the China comments were the only thing being said without Stefano's history, I don't think the aftermath would have been nearly this big.

Can the government shut down the stores all completely?

Oh yes they can, not formally though or else the Italians will feel slighted and it will become a political situation.

The latest development is savage. The Chinese, lol, making it known that they're not to be played with. This is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. When everyone was throwing bags and shoes at them they've been quietly sussing the situation out. This is the first time they've leveraged their spending power so aggressively. My advice to anyone who find themselves in bed with China, and this applies to 95% of Africa and South America, is to get out now!

I think it will be impossible for them to te-enter the Chinese market as long as Stefano is alive or affiliated with the brand. Even with that, they will need an insane rebranding to warm up the Chinese clientele again.
This doesn’t only affect their business there but also here. Tourists will boycott when they will travel abroad.

Maybe they have chance to maintain some of their Couture clientele but it will be very hard for them. The magnitude of this issue is bigger than the Galliano scandal. I feel like it doesn’t have the same echo but for me, this is widly worse!

For Yoox/Net A Porter to take such a bold decision is beyond.

Just bury this brand already. It's not like they've offered anything of value to the industry in the past decade.

This is goodbye for D&G. Period. Any luxurious fashion brand these days can afford to loose a market like China.

It always intrigued me how they manage to stay in fashion conversation since Stefano started to talk level hard bullsh*t everywhere. I think thats because here on western we like this type of twisted show, look at Kanye West.

Im REALLY interested in what Domenico will do now. If I was him I would take my bag and my money and go.

Personally, I am happy to see the fall of Stefano, he started to bullsh*t everywhere with no reason. Freedom of speech doesn't mean you can be a racist and get away with it. The media are focusing on the ad video, but the main problem is Stefano's attitude towards the whole situation. Of course the video started it, some of my friends in Hong Kong doesn't feel the video racist. For me, I think we need to be very careful working with other culture. In fashion, we always inspired by other culture, we need to respect and do it properly with appreciation, not mocking them..

To me this speaks of the larger problem of how these luxury European companies view Asian, particularly Chinese consumers. They just want their money, they don’t actually respect them. None of these companies do. They only respect white European women, that’s who their image is built upon.

The stories of Chinese consumers lining like cattle outside Hermes, LV etc and being treated poorly does not sound like luxury to me.

But I don’t feel sorry for these Chinese either. if you are so superficial to go to these places and allow yourself to be treated less than, only to part with thousands of dollars so you can flaunt your money, then you deserve it.

Funny enough, the videos are still on his Instagram despite the fact that he's aware right now some found it offensive. I'm thinking why not delete them, just out of respect or maybe courtesy?

Also, nothing to do with this issue, but I've watched the Shanghai fitting vids and this one is definitely the most cringe of the lot:

^^
This is both embarrassing and hilarious...
So in a way, they admit it wasn’t a hacker...

Looks like they're reading from a prompter, there's no soul in this apology.
And why is Domenico doing the most when it wasn't really him who ran his mouth. Anyway, let's see how this plays out because from my personal experience the Chinese are not known to 'forgive and forget. Just ask the Japanese.....

Well, when you are the owner of a multi million dollar global company but yet behaves like an unhinged bigot troll on social media, you're bound to hit a wall, especially these days. And he hit "the" big wall. It's shocking that he got away with so much. Good job on the Chinese for not taking this bullsh*t and hitting them where it hurts. Hopefully this sends out a clear message to other luxury brands to start seeing Asian costumers as people instead of walking money.

But in the meantime, I'm just delighted to watch this pathetic idiot crash and burn. its what he deserves.gif

So Domenico is gonna stand by his man... Its a bit cute if you think it well, but in this situation its just sad and unnecessary, he had no obligation in doing this.

He doesn’t have any choice. His name is on the front door and he has to pay the price for whatever his ex BF is doing. I think it’s very selfish of Stefano to act that way when Domenico choose to have a more low key life.

The headlines are « D&G are racist » not, « Stefano of D&G » is racist.
They need a total rebranding with Stefano shutting his IG account and Domenico taking bows alone or with the studio.

Honestly, Stefano does not look and seem good like just the shadow of himself like Galliano years ago or... being racist makes people look ugly, I don't know.. The video during their fitting just shows how disorganised their team is and how aggressive Stefano is.

Besides that, the fashion industry has to stop thinking of China like they are just cash cows.

Chinese people have a very strong pride no matter what their history is and what they have done to be rich again. It baffles me that brands like JPG is just reduced to couture but a racist brand like Dolce & Gabbana is still operating. They should just stick to perfume and to disappear.

Great lesson for every other brands - how to respect each country in the context of globalisation and how to behave in media platform.

It just boggles my mind how in this day and age, people can act like this and not think there will be any recourse. Aside from the fact that their creative prowess has been MIA since like 2009, this is just another low point in the brand's recent history.

Their apology was obviously scripted, they look like two little boys at the principal's office. Feel bad for Domenico because it was not his fault.
