Dries Van Noten F/W 10.11 Paris

The aesthetic somehow reminds me of vintage Dior.. full skirts and nipped waist. The first outifit posted in #18's gorgeous too, the standout piece for me. It's really bringin back a new trend without the look being too overpowering. Good collection, some really nice pieces!

My first thought too .. very New Look.

I love how he's taken some 'extreme' silhouettes and made them all very wearable here. So practical ... I love the jackets.

LOVE this collection.
The styling is excellent, from the sunglasses to the way the bags are carried, it is so great.
Especially loving the more relaxed looks.

Apparently the show was held in the City Hall of Paris, it was the first time ever that anyone showed there. A spokesperson said that simply nobody had ever asked them to show there Dries was also very surprised when they said yes.

He didn't put 'City Hall of Paris' on the invitation though, just the address, so that people would be surprised. That sounds like something only Dries would do.

The reason they found it fitting to show there was because the collection was inspired by 40s and 50s French Couture, but executed with a rebel undertone, which is apparent in the brushstrokes over the flower prints in satin duchesse.

The music used was from 'Vertigo' by Hitchcock mixed with obscure punk/rock

I've really never followed Dries Van Noten but I will have to start! I love this collection! It seems like it combines the glamour of Mad Men with the androgyny of the 80s--especially with the hair and the blazer sleeves pushed up the to the elbows. Amazing.

from an execution standpoint, this collection is flawless. i mean, it's dries: that's a given. i found this collection lacking in the bold inspiration we've found at dries van noten in seasons past. maybe it's fashion week fatigue, but can you honestly tell me that we haven't seen military pieces and animal prints on every runway since the spring collections!? yes, the other stuff in this collection remains quite covetable. i mean, it's dries: again, that's a given. it just looks like he added all of that army green and leopard to make this collection seem more timely than it is.

i didnt recognize her dress at first as Dries, since its so new but look how beautiful this is. it took my breath away so its no surprise.

I agree with those who have said this collection is not groundbreaking.....its not.....and in general Dries seems to be much less part of the avant garde these days and more part of the fashion system ....however, that said, it is really wearable and I'd like to own a number of these pieces.

The problem I have always found with Dries clothes is that they are always cut so specifically to work with other items from the particular collection that its quite difficult to integrate them into a wardrobe of other clothes. I have many clothes from avant garde designers and I actually find my Dries pieces the most challenging. I tend to find that you have to commit to Dries in its entirety.

I really like the khaki trousers especially.

that's curious because i find the opposite often. his pieces accentuate, at least in the case of a printed top or scarf. but i also have many top's that i wear that are a plain color and just have an interesting cut to them so it works with many other things. the dresses though are a different story, those are worn alone because they are so alive as is.

I have 4 Dries skirts and I never wear any of them because I hate how they sit on me. They are all high waisted and all patterned and I just never know what to wear with them. I think its the volume and gathering in the skirts that just makes me feel frumpy - I know i should embrace it but I just can't seem to get it together with Dries - much as I like the items themselves.

funny because that is the one thing i never buy from dries for just that reason. they are never flattering on me, too much volume in the wrong places. his trousers too, i dont own any of those either.

there are some really great looks here! i am loving the utility skirts and the slightly oversized sweatshirts (they look like they have pockets!). ack it's fabulous. sophistication and kind of recession aware.

i feel like his skirts are cut for models. i don't have the legs for them.

For an embroidered one like that probably around +2000 €, depending on the material (silk/wool or cotton)

There is really something different in his cut/fit - I can never wear any blouses, skirts or dresses, I just drown clumsily in them. They're "hefty". Only jackets and coats for me. Which is why I shudder to think what "frump on frump" would translate on the racks.
