Received a text from my roommate letting me know that my Argent GSH Work has arrived!!! That and the fact that I have a Miu Miu wallet from Catty waiting for me at the post office makes this a truly happy Monday :D.

Wait wait... the bag's suede? Definitely do not use conditioner on suede

no, no. the bag isn't suede, but you know the technique they use to make brushed suede metallic (you're more familiar with this than i am, so maybe you can let me know how it's done)? how it's applied on top of the leather, not dyed? it's the same effect, but no, not suede metallic. the feel of is quite rough, which is why i want to soften it, but obviously i do not want to rub the metallic off.

Hmmmmmm ... i'd like to get a nice pic of the surface, maybe on the macro setting of your camera...

this sounds as if the metallic was applied after the leather was drummed, in which case, I wouldn't add any sort of conditioner to it..

stylestar - i have seen several amethyst bags irl and some have been quite dark. LC from the hills has an amethyst and hers is also quite dark - far more purple than pink. i hope it grows on you.

that's why i stray from bold colors t&d produce. there's always someone who'se disappointed with the color of their bag and it's usually someone who's familiar with bal. i just wouldn't want to get a bag i'd never use, kwim?

I am having a hard time taking true to life pictures of the bag. I feel like the picture all turn out to be lighter than what it really is. It's kind of like the Turquoise bags looking more true to the authentic color in pictures than in real life.. haa

I would say on my monitor, it looks closer to this 05 magenta (pic from realdealcollection). that's how dark it is. I am not talking about the more purple or more pink tone variation.. LC's bag is purple-ish looking but it is still a lighter purple than T&D's Amethyst.

this is the 05 magenta that T&D's Amethyst looks like to me

I think I will shy away from bright colors from now on too.. or order all RH Cities so that I can pass it off as one of the older colors that people won't remember exactly what the color looks like. :innocent:

Hi. The postman just delivered my Amethyst City RH. It's gorgeous and the color is one of the prettiest I've ever seen. I  it! Unfortunately my pics all came out like crap and very dark so I am only attaching the close up photo taken from my phone. My bag IRL is very very bright. Can't wait for my other bags to get here.

Am so scared to buy a replica because I feel like one day I will walk into some place and everyone will point to my bag knowing its a fake. Really unlikely to happen I know!!! Its more like my nightmare. I own a red Balenciaga with GGH so far.

i'll see what i can do and how my camera captures the pic. that said, i'm not touching it with conditioner until after you have a look. it's like brushed metallic suede in that you can sit there and rub and rub and peel and eventually the metallic will come off. there were old j.crew flats done like this called the marsala. the metallic isn't IN the leather (like derek lam bags, where i can stretch the fabric and never see cracks), but ON the leather if that makes sense.

stylestar - sorry you aren't happy with your bag. honestly, it will fade with use and eventually look like magenta or amethyst just as auth magenta/amethyst bags become faded versions of themselves so it isn't truly clear what color it originally was if you don't know certain bags were only produced in certain styles. the leather is glorious, i'm sure, so carry it with pride and no one will be the wiser.

Honestly I would not worry about that with a T&D Bag.
I own Authentic Bals and T&D Bals and I really can see
no difference. T&D makes the finest reps around hands down.
I think you should give them a try.

Well after reading all the posts about the Amethyst colour issues. I have been looking up on things, and yeah I think it does look more like Magenta 05!

My PT has very deep/purple tones to it!

Here is a good pic for comparison from TPF:

Hi thesiren! I'm not trying to complain or being unhappy, I understand that with a rep, nothing is 100% and T&D's lovely leather more than made up for it. I agree with you that most people wouldn't know the slight color variations between T&D's bags and the auth. However, this time I was just really shocked that the color is so completely off and since no one else has mentioned it, I was starting to think maybe it was just me! so I was just trying to show the color differences with those pics.

here's my attempt at taking a pic of my own bag. Does this look similar to anyone elses's Amethyst?

I would definitely give it a good spray with protectant. I am just not sure about any conditioning.

even though the YSL easy definitely fulfills my need for a bling bag for vacationing, i am still wanting the sunset orange vernis alma. not sure why, as you can only travel with so many bags!

EDIT: oh, can luna or someone tell me whether i should condition the metallic easy? it's a crackle metallic like i said...i'm sort of afraid it will lift the metallic. should i protect it first/then condition or vice-versa?

In my experience the metallic leather bags are pretty delicate -- with use the color comes off and it shows black underneath. However, this is also true of authentic bags as I have quite an expensive gold leather backpack and the gold rubbed away.

I don't know if conditioner would help -- I would tend to think not but you could always take it into a good shoemaker for advice.

And keep in mind that a good shoemaker can also restore the color on a bag -- provided it's worth the money to you. I used to do this quite a bit with my Chanel heels which would wear down from driving. The shoemaker would clean and redye the beige leather so it was perfect.

My friend brought her Sharpei into Arturo's in Beverly Hills and they gave it the FULL restore -- damn thing looked as good as new. Of course they charged her almost as much as the bag cost in the first place.

stylestar - here are some pics from TPF of some darker auth amethyst if it makes you feel better?

I gotta say, the color on my amethyst is very close to the color that Nicky is carrying here:

no, no. i don't think you're complaining at all! just making an observation, which we're all entitled to do. i do think yours looks similar to the no flash pictures people have posted which makes the bag look darker/more similar to magenta.

juju - thanks for chiming in! i know metallic leather inevitably peels (which is why i can never for the life of me understand while someone buys an auth?) and i have no problem for that. $100 is fine as long as i get a few months use out of it, and i don't care about the bag so much as to get it restored (i'll be onto other bags by then!). what i want to know is can i condition it? i would like it to be softer/slouchier, but that also may come with use. i know shoemakers can work wonders (after all, my naturel bal brief's GGH stud was fixed by my favorite shoemaker after four others told me it was a lost cause [though it was also quite pricey]!), but i wouldn't bother for this. i'm just looking for it to be a little more pliable.
