London shopping

Also, Selfridges on Oxford St. has a large selection of Hunter boots.

On the topic of travel book shops, though Hugh Grant's may not exist, Daunt Books (Marylebone High St.) is infinitely better. They have a huge selection of books and it's not simply travel style books but lots of different styles relating to that region. Unfortunately, they seem to favor cloth bags now which EVERYONE carries around. I even saw an 8 year old girl using it as book bag  Oh well.

Meg,thank you for the bookstore recommendation. I suppose Daunt Books will have to do in the absence of Hugh Grant ^_^

I've booked a table at Toms Kitchen for one of my days back home, but I was wondering if anybody had any other restaurant ideas? I'm in the mood to try something new.

and harrods!!! oh how could i forget.

havent been to westgate though :S (if thats what its called)

It's Westfield, and you've really no need to go there if you're going to Oxford Street and such, there's nothing there that isn't elsewhere around London really.

I'm not really sure about places to eat, I have my favourites that I tend to stick to and never branch out! There's a lovely place in Maida Vale that's worth a trip to if you get the chance, it's one of Gordon Ramsey's places (but not a dealthy expensive, it's actually pretty reasonable). It's called The Warrington Hotel. Really nice food, and the building's a beautiful period pub.

LOOOOOOOOL i even got the name wrong!!! hahah omg
scusi!

What kind of food are u into? bar-wise id suggest art bar! mango lounge is oooookayish :S

Food wise,I'll try anything ^_^ I'm a terrible creature of habit though, tending to frequent the same places. But it'll be my Sisters 18th birthday week and I want to take her somewhere nice and somewhere that she may never have been before. I'm sure I'll find somewhere...at worst pie and mash shop ftw  I'm joking, honestly.

the ivy? ^

its not pricey, and i love the desserts. i went there for my mates birthday 2 years ago *confused* cant rem what i ate :/

I always thought the Travel Bookshop from Nottinghill really did exist.

Gareth Pugh, Rad Hourani, Julius

Any possibility there's some second-hand Gareth Pugh to be found in London?

If so, where would I have the best chance?

Also wondering if there are any stores in London selling his most recent collection, or any Rad Hourani or Julius.

Thanks in advance!

By the way, are there any nice small bars or cafes that have a good array of pastry/desserts?

hummingbird bakery are famous for their cupcakes!
Fortnum and mason do nice afternoon tea too!x

There's a really great cake/pastry place on Regent Street, towards the Picadilly Circus end.

I'm stopping over London for a couple of days for the last leg of my Europe backpacking trip! It's a shame I only have 2 days in London but I really wanted to check out Oxford street for a little shopping  p.s. can anyone recommend any great cheap eats? Any recommendations are good

^
really? I find people rave about Hummingbird but the cupcakes of theirs that I've had have been so-so. the cake was too dry and I could taste the baking soda in it. I hate when people who make cupcakes overrely on the icing to give the cake flavor and leave the cake to just sit there. I think Primrose Bakery in Primrose Hill do lovely cupcakes and cakes and Lola's cupcakes are quite nice as well.

December 25th - in London, as in other places, the cheapest eats are going to be the more "ethnic" ie non-British or westernized food options. Square Meal does a good round-up of best cheap-eats. I would say if you want great, cheap British food to get the set-lunch or pre-theatre menu at Arbutus. Great value and the food is lovely too.

oh i left london 2 years ago Meg :( but the memory of the cupcakes are drool-worthy :P
im sure more places have opened up after that. i really REALLY miss london. sigh.
hummingbird was my go to place for most bdays actually haha.. i didnt find too much time to bake there..

Selfridges has a cupcake cafe in it also, called Lola's. They do some pretty good cupcakes also.

Hi n(n) - not certain that this is any help.. but I read a long time ago on Susie Bubbles site the following tid bit and saved it..

I'm loving the untitled shop at 127 Brick Lane
which has been open for just under a year.
It sells deadstock from designers like Hussein Chalayan,
Vivienne Westwood, Jil Sander, Comme des Garcons and Martin Margiela.
It's not vintage as the stuff hasn't been worn
and it's a whole lot easier on the purse strings
since the prices are heavily reduced compared to buying this seasons' collections.
In a nutshell, it's like a nicer, edited version of Yoox in a physical shop.

I don't know if they might have Gareth Pugh, Rad Hourani or Julius .. or if the place even exists anymore.. but it might be worth looking into :flower:
