London shopping

i'll be going to london february 5th for the weekend. i was wondering if anyone could tell me where i can buy o.p.i nail polish and cetaphil cleanser?

thanks

^Yup,OPI has a concession in Selfridges, near the 'younger' fashion on the ground floor,on the steps.

As for cetaphil,I've just googled it and it is apparently stocked in branches of Lloyds phamarcy. It's not the most prominent of pharmacies, but on most London high street I'm sure there'll be one.

Hello. Does anyone have any good tips about where you might be lucky enough to find vintage Chanel bags? I am going there on thursday! I hear people talking about Westfields. Is it worth going there? I have 3 days! Thanks in advance!

You wont find any vintage Chanel bags in Westfield. It's a good place, but there's nothing in there you wont find in the West End of London, around Oxford/Bond Street, and generally they're smaller stores too.

If you want vintage Chanel bags, I know Liberty's sell them, Selfridges also has a little vintage section on the second floor that sometimes has Chanel bags in it. They're not cheap however.

Thanks honeycombchild! Haha. It did sound like I meant to make a connection between Westfields and vintage Chanel. I know thats not the place to go for that. Have been to London a few times, but haven`t been there in a couple of years. So its better to just go Oxford street and those areas than go to Westfields? Thanks for tips about the Chanels. Arent there any good vintage shops that might have some aswell?

I saw a couple of vintage Chanel bags in a consignment shop on Upper St. in Angel so I would wander up there. It's pretty obviously a consignment shop with designer vintage in it.

There are quite a lot of vintage shops you could try, but I think finding a genuine vintage Chanel bag in many wont be all that likely. Mostly the vintage stores don't sell designer pieces, unless it's a specialist designer one. There used to be one or two along Portabello Road that stocked Dior dresses etc, so they may have some Chanel bags too I guess.

Westfield is nice, it's great if you want everything in one place for ease, but I think it's best to stick to Oxford Street if you can, the stores are bigger, and generally I'd say always go to the flagship branches of stores! I usually stick with going to Oxford/Regent street, unless the weather's really crap, and then I go to Westfield just to be under a roof!

I'm going to London in the second week of February. It's my first time in London and thanks to this thread I already have a huge list of places and stores I want to go :flower:

What's the best comics and books shop in London? Anyone have any suggestions?

I am fllying to London tomorrow and I was wondering: What are the best used bookstores in London?

elfenkind, theres a bookstore in chelsea called john sandoe bookstore. the staff are very friendly. and world's end bookshop in chelsea( i think it was on kingsroad) has some nice second hand contemporary books. I guess foyles in charing cross is one not to miss, I hear they have over a million books!

I hope this helped!:flower:

I wish the bookstore in 'Notting Hill' was real. If only to purchase a travel book from Hugh Grant...ahh a girl can dream :crush:

Elfenkind, also keep an eye open for Oxfam Book stores, totally cheap, cheerful and charitable.

I'm back down for work in 4 weeks time and ready to hit the shops :D

anyone recommend best charity shop areas? (preferably not east london)

I'm going to London in about a week, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me where the best place to look for Hunter boots is? They are really expenisve at home and it's hard to get a hold of light blue ones. Preferably a shop that carries different types, and that is located nearby Oxford Street and the more central parts of London (I have never been to London before...)

A lot of branches of the shoe shop 'Office' should stock Hunters. As should a lot of the main department stores

I'm pretty certain Hunter actually has their own standalone stores in London, don't they?

i love shopping in london! my place is like 5 mins away from oxford street!!!!

Hmm. Maybe not then. I was just sure I'd seen a Hunter store? Unless it's a store with a Hunter concession I've seen maybe..

You may be right though. I googled and found this information on a random web page: "(..) A lot of people have been asking about the name Carnaby, like with all of Hunters products paying homage to their roots, Hunters have named them after their flagship store located on Carnaby Street, London."
