Not quite what you're asking but I've done a short course at LCF. I took a Fashion Buying & Merchandising intensive week-long course. I know they do a similar fashion journalism one, I just remember being very intimidated by the fashionistas on it! The course I did was fantastic, expensive, but worth every penny, I'm planning to do another in my Easter holidays. My tutor was great and really knew his stuff, we managed to fit so much in. As you'll be coming from the US I hope you can find someone who took fashion journalism, just to reasure you before you spend all that money!

Not quite what you're asking but I've done a short course at LCF. I took a Fashion Buying & Merchandising intensive week-long course. I am on the MA Fashion Journalism course at LCF at the moment and I don't think it is worth it's money.

I did a short course in fashion journalism at CSM. It was good in the sense that it teaches you basic things like a hook, how articles are written, how to get the reader in, etc. but at the same time I don't think it teaches you anything that astonishing. I enjoyed my time doing it but if you would go broke doing it, then I would suggest not.

I attend the same college as those doing business, most people at lcf not doing 'design' but doing all the written / pr / business part are at the west end campuses.

My friend veronica is doing business, she says its good, but for the most part she has spent a lot of her time doing work experience as opposed to class time, they do well in terms of sorting out internships for you. So if you were positive that is what you wanted to do, i'll say go for it...

Someone posted a link to arts.ac.uk ... i dont know if the person is in the uk or not, but the university of that arts is made up of a few different universities including lcf and csm... so you get the same standard of education at all of them, a lot of the classes are thought by the same tutors.

I've applied to LCF for Fashion Management, and I have an over-the-phone Interview with them tomorrow morning. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I should be prepared for?

Any one have anything to say about any of the following schools for fashion design in england?

also.. any recommendations for schools for the art foundation (because I think it may be required to take that before entering straight into fashion at any of these universites... correct me if I'm wrong, please)

obviously very very late but there are other unis in london other than CSM and LCF...

Kingston I hear is doing amazingly now since the old head of Ravensbourne moved there. It's meant to be very good if you're interested in the commercial side of design. not sure about the accomodation stakes but meant to be alright to get

Westminster (I am biased because I study there... HA) is brilliant, especially post fire with brand new equiptment. So far in the first semester we've had teaching from Carri of Cassetteplaya, Aithor Throup and Richard Grey. unless you're from london you're pretty much guarenteed accomodtaion.Lots of tutor time (about 4 days a week we see a tutor)

University of Leeds I presume you are talking about the REAL university, not met or college of art and design. University of Leeds take you soley on Alevels. They do not look at student's portfolios or interview them. It is also meant to be incredibly underfunded as the university does not put their money into the art subjects as much as their humanities. BUT textiles is meant to be excellent there

Bournemouth is good for costume if I recall. But don't know too much about it

Ravensbourne- just out of central london. 5-10 minute walk from national rail station, 5 minute walk from bus stops. I went there for foundation, which was a good course. Moving to North Greenwich (near the dome/o2) in 2009/10 which will hopefully put it up in the charts. one of the graduates of the year 2007 went there

Middlesex- have friends there who say the teaching is amazing. another just out of central london, about zone 4 i think? you're pretty much guarenteed accomodation there. good amount of tutor time from what i hear


I WOULD RECCOMEND before going for the big name universities to look through the graduate collections from the past few years

each university caters for different people with various teaching times (as that is what you're paying for!), tutor CVs, equiptment, offers of accomodation, lifestyle etc etc etc. for £3000 a year (or £10,000 or so if you're international), you should really make the choice knowing all the options. order as many prospectuses as you can and visit all the open days!

yeah i know my friends went there for the foundation which is an excellent department but the staff told them not to continue there for fashion. other UK schools that do it are nottingham trent, manchester met, i think edinburgh do it too

Well I sent in my application in November, and they contacted me a few weeks later for an interview which was in January. I had another interview with them this morning and yes, it did go well... I got in!

Hi everyone, I just finished an undergraduate degree (in the US) in Economics and now trying to get into the fashion world, I would like to be a fashion buyer and also would like to spend some time living in London. The perfect option for me at the moment is to do a Masters in Fashion Buying, its a 1 year program and the school (istituto marangoni) seems quite good, just wondering if anyone knows if the school can help me get a job/internship in the field and if doing the degree would be worth it. I'm currently living in the middle of nowhere and pretty desperate to live in a creative and lively city like London and think that doing a Masters would be the perfect option... ANy opinions, advice,etc..??

mmmm I would avoid Marangoni personally. the London branch really isn't as good as the Milan branch. There are a lot better schools in London than it.

i just got into the fashion & lifestyle journalism program at LCF & i start at the end of september. so excited!
