MET Costume Institute Gala 2016: "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology"

Best dressed imo:
Naomi Campbell (seriously what a goddess)
Léa Seydoux
Brie Larson
Amber Valleta
Willow Smith (I can't believe I'm saying this)

Special mention to Claire Danes, her dress in the dark looked really cool.

Worst dressed:
T Swift, Kim/Kris/Kylie, Irina Shayk, Knowles sisters, Emma Roberts, Nicki Minaj and so many more
Also Madonna's butt... I'm traumatized

Best:
-Nicole Kidman
- Claire Danes in the dark.
-Olivia Wilde
-Amber Valletta
-Naomi Campbell
-Lily Rose Depp

Worst:
-Every single LV look.
-Gaga
-Nicki Minaj
-Madonna

Going through this thread was quite a waste of time, most of them looked awful and out of place. Most didn't even know the theme, I bet.

I did however like Claire Danes's dress, Fei Fei and FKA Twigs.

Best:

Mia Goth
Brie Larson
FKA Twigs
Lupita Nyong'o
Claire Danes ( Hate prom gowns but the glow in the dark effect was amazing)
Miuccia Prada
Lauren Santo Domingo

Honorable mention:
Saoirse Ronan
Nicole Kidman
Florence Welch
Sienna Miller
Lady Gaga ( Wish she had worn her after party dress to the actual event , she would've slayed everybody)
Léa Seydoux
Carolyn Murphy
Kate Mara

Worse ( or too basic)
: Pretty much everybody else

I'm not surprised but also let down no one dug into the Balenciaga archives for the Ghesquiere collection from Spring 2007. That whole collection was the epitome of what this gala was all about.

Here is the last long list of Who Wore What, hopefully a mod will copy/paste what's below the line to the first post in this thread - http://forums.thefashionspot.com/showpost.php?p=13592353&postcount=1. Thanks in advance.

I think all the light dresses are beautiful, Karolina's Marchesa and Clair Danes Posen! I also Love Nicole Kidman in McQueen, she looked fantastic!

Some of the Versace dresses are also beautiful and I think she's the big winner this year in terms of amount of dresses. The givenchy dresses in my opinion are too boring this year.

Madonna was a disaster!

Really surprised that no one wore Balenciaga. The silver dress with boots would have been great look. Maybe they won't allow celebrities wear the looks until they hit stores.

I'm also really surprised that such a grand house as Balenciaga doesn't have a red carpet presence, especially at the MET gala.

Also hate Beyonce's dress; it looks like a condom with a disease. :flower:

I'm not surprised but also let down no one dug into the Balenciaga archives for the Ghesquiere collection from Spring 2007. That whole collection was the epitome of what this gala was all about.

It would be quite weird for a house that is trying to move on to dress someone in Vintage Balenciaga by Nicolas when they have a new creative director.
The same for Dior.

I don't know if Nicolas own his archive like Tom Ford but unless he is going independent, don't expect to see someone wearing his Balenciaga on the RedCarpet.

So, no Balenciaga, no Lanvin, no Dior. It's a surprise to not see Dior as Calvin Klein is still represented even if they don't have any designer right now.

LVMH is still winning thanks to Vuitton & Givenchy.
Balmain, Burberry and Prada! Good for them.

Chanel went for the exclusivity, only dressing their Ambassadrices.

Looks like SJP tried to pull a Carrie-moment with her quirky look, but it failed. Unfortunately, nowadays she always manages to look like she's either in costume or in drag. She used to have a good real style.

What a let-down. I feel like this theme is an opportunity for designers and houses to push their limits. I mean we are living in the digital era. I love what Emma Watson's initiative (but not so much the ensemble.) The saddest part is that even Zac Posen or Marchesa, as gimmicky as they were, were at least pushing it. Bigger houses like LVMH and Kering are making me sad.

And ironically if someone showed up in Balenciaga by NG, they would look absolutely stunning and appropriate. But, you all know how it turned out for Louis Vuitton by NG. Where is the innovation.

I feel like there's a lack of creativity. This is just a pure PR event where designers dress their muses in their own element with no respect to the theme or event want to show off. The MET has been going down the hill for few years now. And it really shows the state of creativity in the industry.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Francisco designed all three looks and accompanied all the girls dressed in Klein that night. It's admirable that he stood behind Calvin Klein even though he is no longer part of the brand and that they did a great end of their partnership. I think it speaks volumes as to how things ended and how a brand/designer combo should gracefully handle a departure.

Part of me thinks Costa might have been contractually obliged to attend. The MET could constitute as a PR event, no? Whichever way we look at it, you're right, it is tremendously admirable of him to attend. Especially in this age of public mudslinging.

I wish people wore things that actually used advanced technology.

Emma's outfit with the water bottles sends a good message, but that technology has been around a while. I have a shirt that is at least 12 years old made from recycled water bottles. Plus, it was ugly.

Claire's light up dress was cool, but again, the tech has been around a while.

Worst dressed for me is Katy Perry. Her Prada looked like a Jeremy Scott creation. Frankly, it would have been hideous without her. I thought all the Prada steampunk themed stuff was a miss, but I hate steampunk aesthetic.

I am not surprised at the lack of avant garde designers like Iris and Yohji. The whole point of this event is that brands sponsor famous people to wear their clothes. The bigger brands get more famous people. I do think that brands like Dior, Balenciaga, and Lanvin need to get their ish together. How could they miss out on this promotional event. Esp Lanvin, since Bouchra since she could have thrown a futuristic look together to present herself as the new Lanvin.

Where is Diane Kruger when you need her.... She would be one of the best dressed at this event.
