Model Behavior (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

It's just so stupid. They also have a problem with sending out press releases (it's been rumored that the Chinese government has to approve every official release that comes out of the arena) and there are bloggers/journalists who could not obtain visas or aren't allowed to report from outside of the venue. Also Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, F*CKING GOOGLE are all blocked in China so there goes social media promotion.

Absurd, why did they ever choose China with all these difficulties. They could have known this beforehand.

I'm shocked that Gigi waited that long to issue her "pull out" statement because she must have known for sometime. Apparently there was a petition to deny her visa entry as soon as it was announced her casting for the show. The sad part is that it was Bella who posted the snap of her squinting her on social media.

Well, blame the model not the photographer is how it works right?

im not surprised at all by Bruce allegations.
Im actually surprised it took so long for his stories to come out.
Makes me wonder if Steven Klein is guilty

Yes, it's not rumoured, it's a fact. Each and every Chinese fashion magazine is subject to censhorship by a government official in the mainland. There's literally a man who sits in on meetings as the issues gets laid to bed to make sure everything comply. I wouldn't have thought it would be any different for VS, but it seems they didn't had the foresight to troubleshoot these issues. They were most likely blinded by all the Chinese Yuan, so it serves them right. It was reported last year that the luxuruy lingerie sales reached epic proportions in China. So this was just a money grab which will obviously materialise, but at the cost of a logistical nightmare.

Gigi most likely didn't think anything would come from the petition, which started with a bunch of disgruntled Insta users. I don't blame her there, I certainly didn't think anything would. I see she recently posted some pics from Laos, something to do with a charity programme. Of course it's damage control - this thing can spiral way out of control. Could result in a ban from Vogue China and other Chinese magazines, refusal to run any related campaigns (Maybelline, Tommy Hilfiger, Stuart Weitzman, etc) which could put those brands in jeopardy with the Chinese market. She should ask Kendall for tips, the latter had her fair share of backlash over the past few months.

So Bella posted the snap and she gets to walk, lol?? This says a lot about Bella. If it was me I'd back out of the show as well, as a gesture of support. I'm not condoning the ignorant crap Gigi pulled, but they were both to blame. Unless Bella was being shady in a schadenfreude way and stitched her sister up.

The likes of Ondria Hardin and that Danish bit model (Lilljegren?) will continue to book jobs despite showing their true racist self because the public at large don't know nor care for them.

what about Ondria and Kristin? I must have missed something...

^^ And Kirstin Kragh Liljegren used the N word some time ago.

Uhmm... So why did VS decide to hold the show in China? (Or do they always have the show in China and I never knew?) Are they trying to reach a chinese audience? Surely most people watch it online/on tv anyway.

If Chinas visa policy is difficult, I just can't see why it is worth it.

They are expanding, I guess. Each year they choose a different city (mostly New York though) but they opened a new store in China this year so I guess they want to promote that.
But they have been having a lot of problems with visas.

Maybe the Chinese president is an old-school elitist fashionista and hates Gigi. I'm gonna entertain that possibility just for the fun of it.

This is part of the territory when you're an Instagirl. The likes of Ondria Hardin and that Danish bit model (Lilljegren?) will continue to book jobs despite showing their true racist self because the public at large don't know nor care for them.

Didn't Taylor Hill make fun of Indian people though? Didn't she make fun of a Middle Eastern man? Didn't Sara Sampaio say the N word? They both have millions of followers on Instagram... and they still work for VS.

Yes totally and that Taylor Hill never apologize if I'm not wrong ... Gigi not walking is just a PR move and plus it's not like she needed them. She is just controlling her image and I doubt that she won't book some work in China anymore Vogue China love her it's just a question of time before she gets back to the Chinese market

succumbing to a silly petition over harmless behavior by a popular entertainment figure while ignoring petitions from the international community over a dying Nobel prize winner? typical nationalism.. not exclusive of the Chinese but should keep the eyes of the younger, easily flammable population on a certain direction...

The "can you believe the shoes you bought over a year ago built SCHOOLS?!.. cause I can't either" approach to charity sounds more like the usual aggressive damage control strategy of Hollywood PR agencies.. not unlike Miranda's bombardment on youtube ("breakfast with Miranda" "25 beauty secrets with Miranda") a few months ago.

I always thought that VS pimp (rezak or something) was a little creepy and obviously from that Trump generation that's into making lines like "that's 10, absolutely, that's a hottie" sound like a strategic description of a serious and empowering business deal. The move to China is a little bit sketchy and not sad to see it's backfiring a little...

I will join you in entertaining that idea!

@Mulletproof, I think it is more a case of "typical ignorance and stupidity" than nationalism, personally.

I'm so hoping the show ends up collapsing. It would be the ultimate downfall of this sick empire.

Maybe they would all end up fired and then someone with a brain would end up grabbing the company and returning it to it's glorious days of mature looking models, not barely-legal girls.

I'm already dreaming.

^ HAHAHAHA on some levels, as much as I love the annual spectacle, I do want them to fail just so they can pick up from when it was good (circa 2004) and not from when it became this media circus that we now know it as.

I don't recall any widely distributed articles written about Taylor and Sara's antics to begin with. Gigi's Buddha-gate was picked up by sites across the world, especially around the time when she was confirmed for VS. It was clearly as big of a deal that she saw the need to issue a public apology, and on Weibo. Besides, as pointed out above, it's much easier to let a fanatical group think they have a say by yielding to superficial demands while so much more sinister stuff goes on behind the curtains. Youth, so easy to corrupt!

I refuse to believe her backing out is a PR move. She may not have needed VS, but she was elated when they confirmed her. It wasn't like Kendall who actually had a conflicting partnership and was forced to back out from day 1.
And of course what you're calling 'controlling her image' is actually damage/disaster control. I just checked, and the Gigi boot was actually launched last year, so Mulletproof is right. It's a bit suspicious to only post the images now, especially since Gigi was announced as Glamour's Woman of the Year a few weeks ago. Trust me, the media have their pens filled for the next time she'll be booking Vogue China. I can already picture the headlines.....

I never got the VS hype, just like I never got SI, because I always got the idea that the intended demographic was always men, but it was disguised as being for women. The way many of the models always go on and on....oh it's a safe space where we can be whatever, it's just fun, it's about sisterhood and hanging out with other women........while we inadvertently play up to fratboy fantasies, blah blah blah,.

I'm pretty sure VS was created by a guy, I think because he wanted a way for men to buy lingerie for their wives/girlfriends without feelina weird in a department store...at least according to Wikipedia

And he jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge.
It’s ironic because most guys are uncomfortable with VS stores today etc with all the hot pink, tart-y thing, loud music, glitter....
It’s no longer discreet but a Disney world for teen girls.
