Model Behavior (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

Yet another reminder that being considered beautiful doesn't equate to brains. Maybe all these awful anti science people can move to a deserted island where they can have all the freedom to get sick and die as they like.

I just can’t with all these models liking and commenting on the post. We can all come up with excuses for them as to why, but at the end of the day it’s common sense to not publicly engage with post that has anti-vaccine discourse in the caption (while we’re still in the middle of a global pandemic) solely because it’s attached to a pretty selfie of your friend. Because even if they’re not all anti vaxx, they’re clearly more than ok with others being that way cause not a single one of them even attempted to call her out for how selfish and harmful her message is.
Some of them just seriously lack awareness. I saw one model share a rant that would came out as the most coddled middle class suburbanite kind of attitude toward the homeless you would expect, you know that kind that just expects them to go away without any advocacy for actually solving the problem. Except she later clarified that her opinion was the complete opposite.

They just don't get it, and in a way I feel the problem stems from us expecting public figures to speak out on every single issue, and then they get shamed for not speaking out of every single issues regardless of whether they may be qualified, confident, or knowledgeable about something to speak out on such issues. Then also talk about compassion fatigue, the brain has a limit.

I blame the agencies and models.com for pushing the trend for higher visibility of models' personal lives and "using their platform" for something. There is a lot of pressure for models to be pseudo-humanitarians and it just results in "holier than thou" groupthink and scamming. Most models are middle school drop outs from developing nations and lack the fundamental education to make rationale decisions over emotion based decisions.

Sure maybe they share the blame, but agencies would only be doing that as a result of societal expectations.

True, though in this case, Doutzen’s
mentality is consistent with the petulant, spoiled and ungrateful attitude of having too much of a good thing and easy access to something most people in developing nations long for and are not getting any time soon. It’s a very ‘developed nation’ syndrome in which most of the population has been able to graduate a long time ago from occultism and other esoteric practices that involve irrational fears and thinking that the fact that some people slowly start deviating by choice is downplayed and simply considered an attempt to adhere to a political movement that relies on outlandish claims, which is partly true but the system is responsible for this, too. In most countries, you would get a visit from a social worker if your children are regularly seen in school hours playing with pigs, naked and eating mud in your backyard cause you know, it’s not the 15th century anymore. Being skeptical of science (vaccines) is not new, it has been brewing for years now and you kind of wonder why has it not been tackled aggressively? why are they not regulating more strictly the spreading of pseudo-science and how it’s been manifesting in real life choices? it is very 15th century too to think a growing part of the population, due to lack of education (by choice and the ability to have wealth without having to study- like in the case of Doutzen) or access to healthcare (those in the US) believes that spreading disease is a right.

We were relatively lucky with Covid in the fact that some die and some don’t and it’s kind of a dignified disease in which, yes, you die choking but there is no ‘look’ to having covid, but what if it was one of the diseases in the past that immediately kill you through vomiting and cover you in warts? thinking it’s a matter of opinion or freedom of speech under such graphic conditions would be seen as criminal as it really is now.

Anyway, I honestly think most of these models commenting on her ig are not necessarily antivaxxer themselves, they just feel bad for her because they know her personally and quite frankly, she seems like a perfectly nice person to be around. I think it’s convenient for them too to overlook the amount of responsibility that comes with being a public figure, in a social media platform and taking part in a debate you don’t really need to take part in. It’s a bit like SLFC said.. there certainly is pressure for everyone to pick a side and live with the consequences of that, when in reality, you don’t have to.

Heartbreaking to read what Linda has been going through.

Completely! And it makes a lot of sense since all her 90s compatriots have been doing so well yet she's stayed in the shadows.

I really hope this is an awakening for the industry and that regardless of how Linda is she gets deals to promote who she is!

A lot of designers like Marc Jacobs and editors like Edward Enninful have thrown their support her way so let's hope they can walk the walk and just not talk the talk.

My heart broke for Linda Evangelista earlier this morning, reading that Instagram post. Must be absolute torture for her, especially watching her peers like Naomi Campbell still having flourishing careers and given the industry she's earned her living from. Incredibly sad!

Incredibly sad story from Linda. I'm glad she feels confident and safe enough to come forward with her story and I'm really happy to see her get such positive embrace and love from her fans and the industry in the comments of her post. Her face may have changed but she's still the Linda Evangelista. She's an icon and I, for one, would love to see her back in magazines. Just imagine what a hit it would be if Edward gave her the platform to share her story and reunited her with Steven Meisel! I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I thought that Linda was withdrawing from the industry due to Gerald Marie. Sad to see she's been disfigured like this.

But she may not be able to bring suit - especially if the technicians/doctors she was seeing was using the device "off label" ie on her chin and neck rather than on the areas where the device is officially approved for.

CoolSculpting is approved for the use on face, chin and neck. There is a class action lawsuit against them right now for not disclosing the common side effect https://milberg.com/case/coolsculpting-lawsuit-paradoxical-adipose-hyperplasia/

It was approved in late fall 2018. See press release here. Linda is talking about receiving injuries 5 years ago in her instagram post.

And since Allergan is a big advertiser with CN/Hearst etc i doubt we will read much about the injuries in magazine features.

I think it’s really sad as she already looked amazing back in 2015 and never needed anything done. Honestly none of this is worth the risk

I don't want to diminish the suffering, which she describes as an awful several years, and if they truly didn't disclose side effects than I assume she will be successful in her lawsuit, but I have to say I've seen some paparazzi shots of her in recent years and her face does not look "horribly disfigured", she looks like a beautiful women, but one who is now 56 years old and is no longer the size she was earlier in her career. It feels uncomfortable talking about someone's body this way, but.... the tissue on her face does not seem disproportionate to the rest of her body and there are risks to any cosmetic procedure. The media is cruel to call her unrecognizable, but she's cruel to herself to be calling an alleged excess of fatty tissue a "horribly disfigured" appearance. I am not a doctor and I'm not claiming to diagnose anyone specific with a specific disorder, but generally speaking when people make these outsized statements about their appearance, I think there's a danger, when you're trying to be supportive as so many are, that it's sort of encouraging and validating what can potentially be body dysmorphic disorder. I guess I feel it's best to validate the suffering she feels, but not encourage the perception that she is correct to think she looks bad? A fine line, for sure.

Reading early posts, I thought Linda had written about being abused. Imagine my surprise when finding out she "just" got botched. Of course it's unfortunate, but at the same time I find it hilarious how desperate some models are. Everyone will get old. Instead of accepting it, they will go to great lengths to hide any signs of passing time.

Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought what she is talking about here is a surgery for body fat, not a procedure done to her face.
