As for the model dying in China, yes it is very sad but the reality is a lot of people are living hand to mouth or in debt. Of all ages.
That was her net income. She was paid and evidently could cover her flights and accomodation So wasn’t even in debt to her agency.
The issue is working free and high living expenses. Take the average “intern” (free worker). They never get paid and have to travel to work, eat, pay rent etc.
It’s the stamping out of free work which I think is required. Across all industries. It’s a disgusting expectation.

i had high hopes for that girl. I first saw her on that documentary and I fell in love with her look. Then she just went nowhere and I saw that video back in 2014 and saw why. Plus there was talk that she really couldn't walk in high heels. I mean, in a way, that makes her part of the new breed of models.

I would never dream of fighting while at work, personally.

The fashion industry is more sleazy than they want you to think! The lack of education and classiness among the people who work in it yet the ads make you think it is so classy
I think there are more people who have substance abuse, personality disorder etc but because most people are independent contractors, they don't have an HR department telling them to clean up their act or find help. Also general lack of higher schooling..

I imagine that the equivalent to HR in the model industry is their agency?

Like, remember when Binx and Lexi were in hot water for commenting on a photo of Kendall and Ford made Lexi apologise.

For the young model in China, it sounds like she passed away from an illness/infection and not from working too long. I've known people who worked 12 hour shifts so 13 hours doesn't sound extreme. The nonstop hours probably did make things worse when she was already sick though. I think the issue is that she got seriously ill but didn't have the resources to seek medical help, which is an issue with a lot of models

That is the most well written piece I've read about the about the ongoing abuse in the industry... very eloquent... I like that she shines a light on the boys who are victims as well as pointing out that it isn't just Richardson (her bit about THAT scandal is spot on) it's not just photographers, it's not just models, everyone involved, everyone who turns a blind eye, is in some way culpable ...

It's rumored that she didn't get a visa because of the mocking controversy video a few months ago. It's certainly an interesting repercussion, one that I did not see coming.

I now see that it's getting traction from reputable outlets. The 'pull out' excuse is such a weak attempt to damage control.

She was elated to be asked back as per a Insta post, so I don't believe her reason at all. And considering who she is, I doubt there would be a Visa issue other than Chinese authoroties outright denying her entry for acting foolish. Can't say I feel sorry for her to be honest.

This is part of the territory when you're an Instagirl. The likes of Ondria Hardin and that Danish bit model (Lilljegren?) will continue to book jobs despite showing their true racist self because the public at large don't know nor care for them.

It seems Katy Perry's visa was also denied presumably due to her public support for Taiwan, which rubbed the Chinese all wrong. This leaves VS without a major headline act, a far worse situation than filling Gigi's spot.

Some Russian girls were also denied, and Adriana Lima's application is apparently still under review.

Uhmm... So why did VS decide to hold the show in China? (Or do they always have the show in China and I never knew?) Are they trying to reach a chinese audience? Surely most people watch it online/on tv anyway.

If Chinas visa policy is difficult, I just can't see why it is worth it.
