Model Casting F/W 08.09, Cruise 09

NOW only Julia & Co back and that Hilary Rhoda gets fit in time and all sort it out!!!!!!!!!!! :D

and I thought this would be a better season for Julia
what could be a better start than opening the first show of NYFW?

Sasha's not really done much, maybe she's having a bit of time off?

The Rad exclusive - or one of them anyway, the brand new girl - was Rena Donaldson at Mode. Now placed with NYMM.

I expected something/someone more exciting. -_-
Haha, yes...

Not a significant show, really, though Wayne obviously wanted to hype it as much as possible. But a mysterious exclusive "being flown in from foreign shores" certainly sounded more exotic than yet another average Mode girl...

With London in sight...it can really begin if it's up to me...it should be interesting to see some castings there, like Giles, Christopher Kane and some other hyped names.

Not to mention Milan right after that...three words: Prada & Jil Sander

NY has had some awkward castings...there wasn't a single one I really entirely liked :(

IMO...these are the casting that sucked
BAD:
Vera Wang
Marc Jacobs
Donna Karan
DVF
Marc Jacobs..lol

Good:
Carolina Herrera
Herve Leger
Bill Blass
Halston
Michael Kors
Oscar de la Renta
Zac Pozen
Rag and Bone
EP Charity Show
Really? I just finished watching the Marc Jacob's show and quite liked the casting. Who stood out to you as a bad choice?

Or it could be that she wants to skip NY and such so that she has the advantage of coming in fresh to Milan. Also someone like Sasha can afford to be selective with her bookings. A season will mean more with Milan and Paris shows and very little NY than a stellar NY and nothing in Europe for the most part.

I will not say I did not like anyone, Im not like most people in here who trash models...I just think the casting was very bland to me...not more than 4 stand out models. I dunno I thought many of the girls he picked looked dull, and uninteresting or new...but then again it could have been the clothes and overall mood of the show..:ninja:

NY has been generally quite great in terms of castings. Alexander Wang's cast was particularly good along with Preen, Jonathan Saunders, Marc Jacobs and Proenza.

I was expecting CK to come through with some amazing new girls but it just didn't happen. They just got a few girls that have had previous exclusives with other brands or some that had already done HC shows. Malin Ones was the only one that stood out and i'm a bit confused as to why they didn't lock her with an exclusive in the first place.

It's interesting that the A-lister's are appearing in shows like, Rock & Republic, Diesel & Miss Sixty. These companies are shelling out the huge bucks, to get widespread mainstream appeal, as their lines are affordable. Very Hollywood. I'm just not sure if that is really something new, or has just been gravitating that way, ever so slightly as each year goes by.

Interesting about Sasha's artwork. I guess that explains why she only did the Sui show, which was very artistic in its own right. Sasha was the first person that came to mind, when I started this thread. Snejana, Bette, Anja and a few others also. Good to see Anja appearing often over these past couple of days.

Some Prada buzz

This much you have to say for the Prada people. Their enterprise is damn near impenetrable. Hiss leaks from every season from the Marc Jacobs (we pre-buzzed that he was giving "calm" and post-show Marc stated that calm was an objective this season). Good speculation streams out of the Calvin, as well as the Balenciga, Vuitton and Chanel. But can the Milan chapter of the Hiss Squad get a single wiff of the Prada doings? Yes and it took some doing. Flocks of models have been migrating from London with one backstage destination in mind. Today, Thursday is apparently casting D-Day as Madame Prada starts the filtering process by going through pages upon pages of a specially compliled book that bears all the girls being presented for her consideration. There might be videos as well as digitals in some cases and from that cut will begin the refinement of her cabine. Of course no-one will dare to speak on the clothes. One rumor we heard was that Prada's designs this season involve "overlapping blocks of dark colors". But that sounds like styling choices...not design , and those choices feel very FW 07 anyway. There's always a continuity at Prada, whether in the usage of "odd stockings" as a motif or deliberately strange hats. The men's collections sometimes provides something of a clue. The shirts with two collars could easily become blouses, as could the shirts that button up on the back . The bib front tops and the flesh toned knits...all suitable for translation. In any case outsiders won't even know what the clothes will look like until that magical half-hour before the show starts when girls exit the hair and make-up area to go into first looks. Until then the coveted clothes are kept locked in a seperate room so as to prevent wayward eyes from glimpsing them and then texting their essence into the blogsphere. And forget about knowing the run of show in advance. That probably gets re-worked right up until the house lights go down and the show soundtrack starts up. Ah, those Prada kids. They sure know how to manipulate expectations! In any case if you hear anything, hiss it our way please.

I'm a bit afraid that there will be 20 totally new buzzed models I like from exclusives for example, it's so hard to keep them in mind.

she has nice hair and looks good but I wouldn't think of Gucci when I see her...

I can't believe how much the runways are dominated by the new girls now?! I miss the lineups from like two years ago. :(
