Model Casting F/W 10.11

From Hollywood life
ust heard that the big wigs at the Prada design house in Milan fired many off the toothpick-thin models that were originally booked for their fall 2010 fashion show, which is being held at this moment in Milan on Feb. 25th. Shockingly, for the skinny-obsessed fashion world, they were replaced by more voluptuous Victoria’s Secret models, who actually have at least a little meat on their bones.
My source is telling me that the big revolutionary moment occurred last night during fittings for the highly regarded trend-setting fashion collection.
She reports that a casting director suddenly threw up his hands, said “F— it!” and ordered that sexy Victoria’s Secret Angel models, Miranda Kerr (girlfriend of Orlando Bloom), Alessandra Ambrosio, Doutzen Kroes and Isabeli Fontana airlifted in for today’s 1 pm EST show.
Word has it that the revolutionary decision came after the uproar over the pin-thin models at New York Fashion Week, and the criticism over the skinnies on the runway at Prada in past seasons.
As someone who was the editor-in-chief of fashion magazines Glamour, Cosmopolitan, and Marie Claire, I can assure you that this emergency move could have earth-shatteringly positive consequences. In other words, we can expect that after uber-trend setter Prada has made this revolutionary move to curvier girls, other design houses will fall quickly in line. It’s great news for models — they can EAT again — and for real women with real shapes everywhere.
Furthermore, last night design company Elena Miro actually used regular size models — the kind that fashionistas call plus-size, and the rest of us describe as “normal.”
So take a look at our pictures of Prada’s skinnies last season versus their new curvy girls, and tell me which do you like better?

Was Isabeli originally cast or is this just a rumor?

^Unnecessarily dramatic - it wasn't that last-minute :innocent: At least the "airlifted" girls had some prior warning rather than needing emergency preparations. As if no one had other obligations/jobs to fulfill...they were all at least waiting for the call already.

What the article describes would make a decent movie scene, though.

^ I can already see it in my head. And so it begins, the dramatic press coverage of "change" at Prada. The press here (and elsewhere, I suppose) went bananas over Mark Fast, can you even beging to imagine what it's going to be like for Prada? :innocent: Well done, Miuccia.

Funny howa few seasons ago, givenchyhad the same casting concept, yet most on TFS hated it....

Yep yep. Just look at the choice of words throughout the article: "revolutionary," "uproar," "emergency," "earth-shatteringly positive consequences," "uber-trend setter"...(Heck, even "F--- it!"). Exaggerated tabloid reporting at its best.

I was actually waiting for a revolutionary emergency  and said to myself "were the heck is the emergency" when I watched the show. Again, I don't say that casting was bad, I even said not bad but nothing, uhm, exciting...

A few new faces who are working well this season (many of them under Russell's wing), a few unexpected older models and so on. A bit deja vu, at Prada or elsewhere. I sort of agree with Retailqueen saying that Givenchy kinda did it already and didn't get such a warm and welcoming response here. There is nothing groundbreaking (to me at least but I might be very demanding) in booking Doutzen, Miranda and others at a high fashion show right now.

I'm not waiting for Prada to put its stamp of approval on what's already more or less a trend. I waiting for it to create. A surprise, some excitement or even some deception. But not that.

penny609, I agree with you. The casting really wasn't THAT exciting. I'm not against VS girls walking HF shows, but I didn't think any of them looked particularly good. Miranda looked the best. I don't even want to talk about Doutzen, poor girl.

The rest, I mean yeah, I was excited Maryna got a chance to walk Prada, but other than her... It was a lot of the usual Prada fare and the few 'surprises' were not very exciting, imo.

I don't know, but 3 current VS Angels and a Guess girl (all we needed was one extra SI girl to complete the list) in a Prada show is pretty new and shifting to me  I know we've seen Adriana Lima at Givenchy and Miranda at Balenciaga...but this being Prada, the bringer of Sasha, Lindsey, all the weirdness and unconventionality (is that a word?) ever to appear in modeling makes it a lot more different somehow. Maybe I think too greatly of a Prada casting and maybe we all do, but the impact is just lightyears bigger than when Tisci does it.

I know what you mean and I don't totally disagree but the whole casting doesn't make sense to me. Didn't go far enough on one side or another, didn't dig its own concept deep enough to me at least. VS angels ? Why not. If this is the idea, let's develop it then. But the other girls in the casting were the expected Prada-girls following the regular aesthetic of the last few years. Now if it's going to have some serious influence on fashion in general or just stay in archives as another gimmicky casting, I won't risk myself to predict anything... but I was expecting a complete revolution after all the noise it made (well, people made) today, I was thinking they were going to re-invent their aesthetics (regardless if this would have pleased me or not). I mean by this that each girl, and especially each more or less new girl would totally unexpected and unpredictable.

I doubt the VS girls (except Doutzen maybe) can be casted in a Prada show if it weren't for their commercial status.

i guess miuccia succeeded in distracting us from the hideous clothes. brava!

Models.com posted Marilyn's Paris showcards and Adriana has one! I'm convinced now that KK is walking in Paris too since they both haven't had a showcard in years. Adriana's says by special arrangement like Jourdan's says special booking. Wonder what that means?
