Model Casting F/W 10.11

Versace = sex, therefore Versace = mature.. but that is just my personal viewpoint, because as well all know youth is becoming sexualized more and more in mainstream culture.. obsession with youth. But I think I'm in danger of getting off topic so I'll stop there.. :meow:

Nope, in-house. Michelle cast it last season? That's news to me

I know it's usually in-house but I think I read somewhere (Love's blog maybe?) that she casts Versace as well and since last season's cast was a bit off, it seemed pretty indicative she might have cast it last season.

Ah, here we go:
LOVE asked Michelle Lee, top Casting Director for Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Giles, Versace and Interview Magazine for her top ten girls of the month

A bit late, but I thought the likes of Alessandra and Vanessa carried the clothes at Prada of a lot better than some of the brand''s more contemporary models. I thought the casting at Prada was pretty damn near faultless and I'd like to see that quality continued in future shows.

The Versace casting didn't seem as bad as I remember it being last season and I am quite happy about Bregje closing.

^^She might have had a hand in advising/assisting the whole shebang last time, but I don't think that was the case this season even though it seems like it...will check, I guess. Either way Donatella has the final say as is the case with every other CD-designer collaboration, so Michelle is not to blame for her cast "suggestions"

^I believe that's from the casting session and not backstage at the show or anything...so the final cast could still be anyone from anywhere

I found another picture but I can't read the names. The picture is too small.
Well I was able to indetify Karmen P. (no.10).:D

What I was more surprised about than anything else while watching the Prada show was how terrible some of those girls are at walking (Lindsey, Rose, etc.) most of them were just awful. These supposedly "superior" HF girls could barely walk, whereas the "commercial" girls Ale for example absolutely pwned them.

Well the "commercial" girls are usually experienced girls with a HF background who have been walking for YEARS... ie Ale, Doutzen.. so you better believe they can stomp with the best. I definitely do not expect Lindsey/Rose/etc.. to outwalk those vets.. they are just young beginners.

Although I must say Doutzen in the livestream was rather uhm awkward with her expressions. Still love the girl though :flower:

Thank you! I'm so tired of people who think VS girls are nothing more than commercial models who all of a sudden leaped from the pages of a catalogue and onto a runway. Yes there are the likes of Heidi and Selita Ebanks, but it's not true for the majority of the girls.

I mean Adriana has walked for Dior, for Chris's sake. And Gisele and KK are as HF as they come.

can somebody clear this up for me? it may sound like a dumb question but when a model has a show card, say, on models.com, does that mean that she has already booked shows for the season? or is it just a special comp card that will be taken to castings?

They are sent to casting directors who then request the girls for "go-sees" or directly book them. Just having a showcard does not even mean the girl is even in town sometimes, ie Ymre a couple of seasons ago for New York. And sometimes a girl can do castings and not even have a showcard included in the models.com package. Hope that helps :flower:

I see Prada's cast of commercial models as an adaption to current trend, as a sign that they may not be able to afford themselves to be "à contre courant" anymore... -_-
It's indeed an intern revolution as they used established models that never walked for the brand before, but it doesn't break any of the current rules, so it's hard to see a revolution here, I can hardly consider it a surprise... :innocent:

the casting for Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani are so weird sometimes. I'd noticed that the brand doesn't like being associated with established models. They prefer using unknown girls or underrated models. Although, his couture shows usually have all the blue-chip models.
