Model Casting S/S 14

This is a bit mean but Ava Smith's new platinum do screams 'Lisanne De Jong F/W 2011 last desperate attempt at relevancy' to me ...I still got love for her though.

Wu's cast was very solid, although I feel that NY Models should've let Malaika debut at a show like Wang, considering that it's rare that a black model is hot enough to not need to take every show handed to them. Eh, that's just me though.

I seriously don't understand the hair color change? She was doing well before it!

On a different note I'm definitely liking the trend of smaller shows using more popular models!

So glad to see Anais at major shows again

I'm puzzled by Zlata's success, so bland... (well, this applies to many newbies)

Oh, and why the sudden Josephine Skriver comeback? I wasn't missing her :innocent:

Jason Wu was on point! some out of the blue casting choices today tho like Wixon @ Rebecca Minkoff but so far so Good...cant wait for Wang tomorrow, i hope he delivers!

Personally, I thought Binx would have been an absolutely perfect addition to the Rag & Bone cast, but other than that, I thought it was pretty spectacular (minus Charlotte Wiggins, Ashleigh, and Esther  ) I also don't really care for Anabela, she is the definition of a filler. And Elise closing was definitely one of the big highlights.

I don't think Anabela is that much of a filler. Fillers haven't had respectable careers, and she has.

Totally agree with you on all points. Anais and Jasmine's (perhaps Zuzanna B can be included as well?) comebacks are really making these first couple of days of NYFW for me.

As for Zlata, well I have to say she upped Maddison Brown as the most out of place one at Wu. Totally don't get her, sorry.

Four girls on my radar that are curiously absent at FW and unusually quiet on their social media.
Dauphine McKee walked 35 shows last season including CK, Proenza, Chanel,
Bree Smith at model lounge today.ck?

Newbies from Society not on their website-Logan Patterson from spot6 management (no thread yet) who Tom van dorpe met 2 weeks ago and # staralert on instagram and Natalie Westling from the Agency in Arizona.

Just spotted Logan Patterson on Helmet Lang instagram for the show tonite. Her real name is Rachel. Someone needs to start a thread for her.

I guarantee Logan already has a thread. Every. Single. Model. has a thread.

Leading By Example - Jason Wu S/S 2014
The issue of diversity in modelling reached fever pitch recently with a scathing New York Times reportage which highlighted the indifferent attitudes of casting directors and designers towards the poor representation of minority groups on fashion's runways. Modelling maven Bethann Hardison issued a letter in the lead up to New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014 to each of the major fashion design councils in the four fashion capitals condemning the seemingly whitewashed runway aesthetic of fifty fashion houses. During the Fall/Winter 2013 collections only 6 percent of the models featured in show presentations were black, with Asian models figuring slightly higher at 9.1 percent. Hardison issued the following scathing assessment, "No matter the intention, the result is racism. Whether it is the decision of the designer, stylist or casting director, that decision to use basically all white models, reveals a trait that is unbecoming to modern society."

Casting director James Scully has been one of the industry's most outspoken voices on the issue of diversity, stating in an interview with Buzzfeed, "Some of the biggest names who move fashion to the forefront, like Dior, get a D- on ethnic diversity. I feel the Dior cast is so pointedly white that it feels deliberate." Scully who is responsible for assembling the show line-up for Jason Wu coralled a spectacularly diverse cast for the Taiwanese designer's Spring/Summer 2014 presentation. Industry veterans Karen Elson, Elise Crombez, and Hilary Rhoda led the charge alongside current it girls Amanda Murphy, Sasha Luss, Sam Rollinson, Andreea Diaconu, Ashleigh Good, and Karlie Kloss. Keeping his eagle trained on eye on the modelling horizon, Scully summoned the likes of Australian newcomers Maddison Brown, Holly Rose, and Kenyan born beauty Malaika Firth for their New York Fashion Week debuts. Without falling foul to accusations of tokenism, Scully interspersed a stellar selection of coloured models amongst the line-up including Asian supernovas Liu Wen, Chiharu Okunugi, and Ji Hye Park and black models; Jourdan Dunn, Anais Mali, Pauline Hoarau, Maria Borges, and Cora Emmanuel. The resulting effect was a sublime cast which left no doubt as to the beauty of diversity in all of its incarnations.

Any rumours on Wang's exclusives? Anna Ewers? Kate Goodling? Mariina Keskitalo?

Lacoste was such a snoozefest, not even Sam or Kati could save it.

I'm almost willing to bet money on Julia Fuchs being at least semi-exclusive. Kate Goodling is such a typical Wang girl. It'll be interesting to see the cast.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like NY is tougher on new girls than usual. A lot of the girls I expected to see everywhere are not booking that many shows. I suppose with so many girls it's difficult to break through and it's still early days.
